Is Shammy allowed his crayons back now? :D

My snoo is when you wake up the next morning and check your baggie to see that only one corner is still occupied..then realising how deceptively small this looks until you start giving her a scoop :D

Sunday saved!

Spent the past few hours driving round listening to me favourite album and sort of lazily running errands. Sun is out, I had what was probably as close to an enjoyable experience in a bank as I'll ever get and life is good again after a hard couple of months

Made my favourite nurse cry today (in a good way) by popping in to the ward I've spent about 10 weeks on in the last 2 years with a thank you card and loads of biscuits and chocolates. (was up the hospital with my dad who was having a chest xray due to weird sounds from his lungs despite no infection, but that's another story).

Was glad she was working today because I've put her through more shit by being a terrible patient than any of the other nurses on that ward, and it was her that I really wanted to thank. It was just bad luck on her part that she seems to have been on nights through the very worst of my post op recoveries, this time she had to catheterise me, and give me an NG tube, neither of which I accepted quietly or gracefully.

I really don't know how to thank these people any more, I really can't fault the service. I just hope that expressing my thanks is enough, I like to think that if you work in the medical profession then seeing your patients recover successfully and getting back on their feet is the best reward for them. Judging by the tears and hugs I got today, I hope this is the case :) <3

(mind you, if anyone else has any other suggestions about things I could do to express my gratitude, I'd be up for hearing them!)

What you did sounds perfect. You said thank you and gave her a present. Sounds like she was pleased and happy to see that you're recovering. That's an incredibly sweet thing to do. A lot of people don't do that and just moe on, so shows what a thoughtful person you are.

I'm not sure what the name of your condition is but maybe you could look for a possible charity and donate some money into research, something like that, if you think you're not doing enough. You know something similar to a recovering cancer patient donation to cancer or taking part in a fundraising event in order to help raise money to help others recover too.

Thanks for sharing that with us - it's truly lovely.

Yeah I've been donating to the Crohn's and Colitis UK charity (I have had ulcerative colitis - now there is nothing left inside me to suffer from the disease!), the local division of which directly funds the infusion room and GI medical ward. For example when I had my capsule endoscopy last year, the equipment was purchased for the hospital by the charity (£25,000!). All the TVs in the infusion room were bought by the charity too, which is useful because otherwise it would be the most boring, windowless and featureless cupboard I've ever been made to sit still for four hours in.

I planned to do the Great South Run last year on their behalf, I even registered from my hospital bed after one of my 2013 surgeries. Unfortunately I was a bit optimistic and wasn't well enough to do it, but my cousin-in-law took my place and she raised over £500 for CCUK in the end!

As long as I continue to get better, I will do something similar later this year, but I have just discovered that you can raise money directly for the hospital itself (it's all set up on the Virgin Giving site, I was looking on JustGiving before which is why I didn't find it). Looks like that money goes on specialist equipment and also on staff training, which can't be bad.

I've just left good reviews on PatientOpinion and NHS Choices, which I think feed back to the hospitals themselves. I'm also thinking that letters to my surgeon and also the director of nursing, not just because of the one person I mentioned above but for everyone really. Oh, and I've signed up to the Stomatherapy buddy thing that the SCNs have going on, so as long as I pass the CRB check I'll be providing support to new stoma patients, meeting them for coffee etc and telling them it's gonna be alright! :D

That all sounds positive and productive. Good on you for turning what sounds like a horrific time into something positive to help others and give something back to those who've helped you. I think a letter to your surgeon is an ace idea. That's brilliant that your cousin was able to raise so much money.

I wish you all the best in your recovery and that it continues in a positive way.

a scoop !!:D

In a little over two days, I can passably play the intro to Rainy Night In Soho by The Pogues on my tin whistle, with only the odd false start or misstep into the upper octave.

It's the most romantic intro to (possibly) the most romantic Pogues song, and The Pogues were obviously the most romantic band. So I'm going to learn summat nasty tonight. If I play the high 'D' and knock the not slightly out, does that count as having learned a Whitehouse song?

Also, felt shite yesterday. Somebody turned my day around without trying. Thank you (again)!

I'm not sure which substance you're referring to, but when we reach the end of a baggie of MXE, it gets cut open with a pair of scissors, and scraped out with a dry toothbrush. It's usually possible to get a wee line each out of that. Then there's the licking of the baggie and the DVD case, the cutting open of the straw, etc. Every molecule. :D

It was just weed that I had ground up before going to a gig, for convenience sake. It applies to most other baggie occupants though :)

With powders, it definitely gets dissected %)

Go for it. Do!

My psych grilled me about a new acquaintance the other day, then admitted to countertransference. She was looking really good, but we were running late anyway, and those rooms aren't conducive to that kind of thing.

Oh, and she could lose her job.

My flatmate told me she fancies me this morning. I already knew, but it's nice to hear it. Sadly, we're just not suited at all, and my heart resides in the Ashton Canal in any case.

Is the Ashton Canal where you dumped your ex? (into)

If she still treats you after admitting to that yes she could. Its a MAJOR red line.
