EADD Giving Up Smoking Thread Mk. II

I have chronic (what?) asthma and have smoked a lot of cannabis from age 13/14 onwards. But I switched to eating and vaporizing when the asthma attacks and COPD-like stuff got worse in my late teens. Nowadays I do have a smoke once in a while, currently four spliffs per day to be precise, but can easily do eating/vaporizing only.

Vapor doesn't give a proper hit until you get your apparatus dialed 100%, the more so with cannabis. I've used volcano, verdamper, and Arizer EQ, and they all have downsides. But once you have it dialed it's glorious.

You need good equipment, but there are better & cheaper vaporizers out now, e-cig designs are improving too, Chinese companies are really bringing this stuff to the mass market.

I got one of the cheapest vaporizers around that isn't completely useless, Flowermate Vapormax V5. I've used vaporizers that cost three times as much & were just like breathing warm damp air, but this gives gives a proper hit every time, bigger hit than smoking weed can & it's simple to use, there's no learning how to use it or anything, just put some weed in, press the button, wait until the light stops flashing (~30 seconds from cold) & suck. It's already saved me money & I've only had it a couple of weeks, I'm using less than half the amount of weed I used when I smoked & getting more stoned, it's put my tolerance up & now a joint doesn't do much for me. I'm feeling much better for it too.

For e-cigs, get a wickless cart, like a GS H2, they don't leak or block, they're dirt cheap, simple to clean, they last ages & they're rebuildable too. The older CE4 type carts are a hassle.

I've decided to go up to the 21mg patch yesterday as the 14mg didn't seem strong enough.

I smoked like 1/4 of a cigarette a few times & took the patch off at 6pm & had a few cigs. Also finding just because of my routine I'll generally have 1 or 2 in the morning before bothering to put the patch on since I get cravings before I have a shower.

Aim is to probably use the spray I have first thing then put the patch on until 8pm, then preferably use the spray again. Just need to stop smoking altogether otherwise I won't get out the routine of buying cigarettes/smoking, which I think is the hardest part when using NRT.

Will probably smoke some tonight after taking the patch off & might have a cig tomorrow morning but after that, cig free. It took me 2 days to transition off cigs last time I went down the NRT route, so confident it'll be similar again now I'm using the right strength of patch.

Interesting bit of trivia that i heard on the radio the other day. Seems that some researchers from taiwan or somewhere there looked at the amount of cigs smoked by men before and after watching images videos of beautiful women. Their consumption doubled after exposure (to sexiness).
Perhaps an idea to stay clear of porn sites when trying to quit? :)

Well you could just promise yourself porn at the end of a long day of no smoking...

Well yeah, I'm not a porn addict so that's not an issue... but fair suggestion. I like the idea of porn as a reward for not smoking... :D (mind sex would be a better incentive... :p)

Well of course, just joking really... plenty of reasons for me to give up smoking: asthma/health, money etc.

ive got a good one at the minute i get hiccups some times when i inhale which is a sign of possible heart troubles

Any recommendations of good yet cheapish vapourisers as I believe that they are the only aid that would help me quit smoking.

Thanks Chatative, you are dead right. I do now recall seeing that thread in the past I had forgotten all about it.
I'll have a look through that thread for the answer to my question.

Many people will tell you that the £20 jobs with the wick at the top are shit e-cigs, but ime they're ok, and there's no need to spend huge amounts on expenisve setups for a decent vape imo, you need to replace the cartomiser for about £7 every now and then when the vapeing becomes inefficient and you end up with a mouthfull of nicotine juice. :\

The wicks are £2 each and last anything from 1-10 days, (depending on luck, keeping the wicks moist, even the weather) and the juices are 30ml for a tenner which will probably last at least a week, depending how heavily you smoke. (3x10ml plastic bottles of various flavours and strengths from 10mg nictone - 24mg nicotine.) It's well worth trying imo, you wont be dissapointed. Find an outlet in your town, they will let you have a taster before you buy.

Once you switch you'll never want to go back to tobbacco, and the e-cigs are far less harmful and much easier to quit altogether when the time comes.

i use the i clear 16 dual coil atomisers, with replacable wicks, you'll just need a £7 battery and usb charger to go with it. You'll never look back.

Definately avoid those cheapo ecigs that look like a 'normal cig' but have a glowing blue or red tip, they taste absolutely foul, and are completely unsmokable.

Yeah the e-cig I got for £30, which is like 2 e-cigs really... was alright apart from the fact the vapour is worse for my asthma than cigarette smoke. I guess it's the moisture, or maybe just that brand of cartomizers.

Still trying to wean off cigarettes completely at the moment. I've got the 21mg patch on & I'm still getting the urge every 1hr and a bit. (as opposed to 40 mins) Been having like 5 puffs on a cigarette, so probably had like the equivalent of 2 cigs since 7:30am. I really want to wean myself onto just NRT but the spray would be too strong with this strength of patch so I'm just going to have to tough it out & make those gaps longer before I've got enough will power to rely just on the patches.

It's just breaking that habit of smoking itself that is hard... I'll get there soon! :)

It is very much a habit based thing, but it's surprising once you stop and the cravings pass (48 hours maximum) how quickly you forget those habitual cigs, or just think to yourself "I'd normally be smoking now but dont even feel like having one."

Listening to my favourite music makes me crave nicotine, it's one of my worst triggers, i will have to avoid that for a little while when i stop. If you think of it in those terms, 'it's only 48 hours to get through and then ive broken the back of the physical addiction and ive got over the worst of it' that might help.

Ive just got one wick left now after this current one, and 3 2/3 full 10ml bottles. Im going to stick to my promise to myself to stop this time, and try and make this quit the final quit, rather than just drift back into it, at any random point over the next few weeks, months, years.

Thanks for the info Mdb. I've tried patches in the past and I managed to stop for a week but then went back to smoking. I think these Vapes are the way to go as i will still feel like I'm smoking and have something to do with my hands etc.

@mbd: you can rebuild the wick/coil in some of the bottom coil designs (kanger), so instead of paying a tenner for five atomisers it cost a couple of pence to rebuild them with wire and cotton wool.

also mix your own liquid if you use a lot, paying 3 quid for 10 ml is a total ripoff when a liter of pg costs about 10 quid.

yeah they are just as, if not more satisfying than a normal cig, what with the inhaling and exhaling smoke or vapour. You get the vapour hit the back of your throat in a satisfying way and you can feel the nicotine hit almost intantly. After starting vapeing about 18 months ago now, i now find normal tobbacco cigs taste foul, and a whole cig all at once is too much nicotine and other poisons all at once and i almost puked last time i had a 'normal cig'. With ecigs once youve got your desired level of nicotine you'll find you smoke far less, just a few hits every 30-60 mins will be plenty.

I haven't smoked a real cigarette since the day I got my ecig, over a year and half ago. I think I would throw up and pass out if I tried to smoke a cigarette now. I still have 19 marboro lights left in the 20 pack i bought that morning, if anyone wants to buy some very very stale fags.

I'd look into that further if i wasnt planning on stopping alltogether very soon. But thanks for the tip anyway.
