Proper disposal of expired Diazepam ampules?

My apologies if this is the wrong place to post this... I picked up a box of vintage and antique surgical instruments at an estate sale, and at the bottom of the box I found about a dozen ampules of diazepam. They're all expired since 1988 or so. I don't want to pour that stuff down the drain and I definitely don't want to put them into my trashcan. I suppose the best thing to do is to bring them to the police department, but I'm not crazy about the idea of walking in there with a bunch of prescription meds that I have no proof of how I obtained. Any thoughts or advise on the proper way to get rid of these would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt it's gonna clog your drain or backup a septic system. Or just empty it in your backyard. And why do you not want to throw them away?

If you're really worried, wrap 'em up and go to some place with a bio hazard trash like a hospital.
