I value my female plutonic friendships so much that taking the decision to pursue a different kind of relationship is very tricky one that I don't always make in time before securing a permanent/semi-permanent non-sexual relationship. Complicated business, all that! But I've been in a couple of situations where the direction has changed after quite a lot of time (years, in fact) so it's clearly not impossible, and sometimes I think it's best that way. But then sometimes that goes wrong, and you lose a close friend. That's the hardest part, IMO - is it worth it?
