The News Thread v. Your Penises Are Too Large And It's All Our Fault

That's why it is in the public interest that I do not work i health care any more. There was an unwritten acceptance that people would help themselves to a few lorazepam and diazepam from stock (as they were used so much there was no special custody requirements) but most drug users amongst the professional staff were like me, weekenders with the dance music who only really used them for pill etc hangovers and as I nor any of my colleagues problematic drug users at the time, we knew not to take the piss and as such, especially with the tons of lorazepam used for rapid tranquillisation a few pence worth of generic benzodiazepine tablets could escape the drug trolley here and there. Rather than take from stock intended for patient use (which is very closely monitored now for cost reasons) my personal racket was intercepting drugs for disposal. As things were extremely wasteful back then, whenever a patient was admitted they were encouraged to bring all of there medication so the admitting doctor can actually get a sense of treatment compliance and so that they can continue to prescribe for the duration of admission if necessary.

But they were so wasteful back then that as soon as the patient had been admitted, we would just chuck the patients medicine into a disposal box and then use hospital stocks from the get go. So as so many of our patients were already be treated with benzodiazepines or other goodies (tons of Procyclidine constantly went into the bin and eating one of those yokes was like a mild speed tablet), whatever was slung for destruction, unsurprisingly did not make it to the pharmacy disposal if I had completed or was involved with the mission. Nothing in the operation skipped a beat, it was just that I personally destroyed all of the benzodiazepines by imbibing them. My biggest haul was as a community nurse when, following a lot of unnecessary prescribing by a reckless psychiatrist, I suggested in our weekly team meeting, initially from a clinical interest, that any unnecessary, dangerous stockpiles of medicine (this guy had been running wild for months) be removed from the patients homes. Unbelievably, I was asked to oversee this and as such ended up with 574 (11 strips of 50 one of which had been sparked) 2mg Roche Rivotril tablets.

About a year later I was addicted to heroin and upon returning to work for a short while following a long period of illness (it is while I was off work that I started using daily) I ended up on a ward I had never spent much time on before. One day I was asked to check for an item in a communal drug cupboard I was unaware of. Upon opening it I found that the pharmacy had left a box of 30mg Phenobarbital tablets for emergency purposes as they are so little used now. I helped myself to them and the replacement that appeared a week later. Although I did not risk a third dip, everything was about to catch up on me.

Its amazing I did not kill myself with the barbs as I was using them to try and smash through a ridiculous gear tolerance and within a few weeks I was arrested for possession. I, of course resigned knowing that my career was done with and was struck off 2 years later. I had got clean by then but it was still for the best as thankfully I lost my access to unlimited prescription pills just as I completely lost control of my drug use overall.

Sorry for the tl:dr I've just smoked a stone. Nothing but class in this house :\

I understand completely mate. I was called out to a job at a care agency head office a couple of weeks ago and found myself left alone in a store room that happened to contain of box of unused meds. All I found was a box of 100 x 30/500 co-codamols - but that kept me happy for a few days...

They're hardly going to be needed for emergencies and paracetamol and codeine number among the cheapest drugs available so if they are missed then it will just be a case of someone getting a bollocking for not storing them properly. The world will keep turning so might as well make hay....

I think Trump gets the most controversial American president ever award.

Hey mate, watching a great documentary on YouTube about the German V3 Supergun that the Nazis developed at the end of the war but never reslly used.. Anyway, the research was picked up by a Canadian scientist called Dr. Bull and developed for Saddam Hussain in the late 80s. The plot to ship him the parts and build it was foiled though (The Iraqi Supergun fiasco was big news in Britain at the time) and Dr. Bull was later assassinated by Mossad, but a fascinating documentary and somewhat related to my speciality which is as you know, World War 2 :)

Hey mate, I remember when Gerald Bull was killed just outside Brussels in front of his flat door with a .22, probably a beretta typical mossad signature killing. ;)

I've just watched a few new documentaries about the battle of the bulge which still was interesting as it had different information in it.

The Battle Of The Bulge is one of the most interesting battles of the war...I could go on and on about it..

Terrible mistake by Hitler and no chance it it succeeding. Threw away the last of his tactical reserve for nothing..He was never gonna reach the Meuse and split the allies in half..as soon as they got over the initial shock, all it did was bring vast amounts of German armour and men into the open where they could be cut off and destroyed. Such a waste.. although the allies had no idea that Germany was still capable of mounting such an attack after their defeat in France

Fascinating...

Really? Other than training it's my no 1 hobby...Honestly, I've got a library of WW2 history books and I doubt there's a documentary I haven't seen.

Main area of interest is WW2 Western Front feom D-Day through to surrender...

Some interest in Eastern Front mainly Stalingrad and battle for Berlin.

Not terribly interested on the Pacific.

I'd say probably D-Day, Arnheim and Bulge being my specialist areas.

What about you mate?

Same - I'm no expert but have spent a lot of time reading WW2 books since I have been out of work. I'm currently working through this...

...which examines the motivations behind why the Germans continued to fight following the opening of the second front on D - Day and how the Nazi state continued to function, despite the inevitability of loss from that point forward. It begins with the failure of the Valkyrie plot and ends (obviously) with the Battle of Berlin.

Yeah, I've got thst book along with a few others by Ian Kershaw. Him, Antony Beevor and Max Hastings are IMHO the best WW2 authors out there.

I recently bought:

"Snow & Steel" by Peter Caddick-Adams about the Battle Of The Bulge

"Overlord" by Max Hastings about (surprise, surprise) D-day (Operation Overlord)

"Berlin - The Final Downfall" by Antony Beevor about the final Russian offensives after Kursk including East Prussia, Seelaw Heights and the final battle for Berlin

"Stalingrad" by Antony Beevor. About events leading up to Stalingrad, the battle itself and events following it.

"The Victors" by Stephen Ambrose. Which is a (not great) account if D-day up until surrender. I'm not a huge fan of Ambrose though. He focuses too much on arse licking US Airborne Regiments at the expense of everything and everyone else...and him sure has a homoerotic crush on Major Dick Winters of the US 101st Airborne lol :)

That's my current reading....plus my standard faire of anything and everything on YouTube that's related to WW2/The Falklands/Afghanistan/Iraq and everything related to firearms development and technology (just stay out of the comments section or you will end up smashing your screen with frustration at some of out US cousins attitudes to the Europe in general and the British in particular..Apparently we in the UK are a bunch of "faggot cucks" who let our government "take away our guns" and are now "overrun" with "niggers and rag heads" ....

Who knew eh? :)

Yh, I never read yootoob comments - any video that invites intelligent discussion inevitably gets spammered with racist morons (I know I am hardly a shining example of internet moderation but YT - jeez Louise - if they cannot be bothered to to proactively deal with the disgusting shite that accompanies the vids then they should just disable the comments full stop).

I read this last year following a recommend from many EADD regulars....

...which, as well as obviously combining two of my favourite subjects, was a real eye opener for me personally.

If I was to consolidate all the various media and literature I have got through regarding old double you double you eye eye into an academic course (General Certificate In Subject Specific Web Searching?) then IMO the 'core text' would have to be Keegan...

...most comprehensive tome I have yet to come across on the subject - IMO it is the literary equivalent of ITV & Jeremy Isaac's seminal and legendary 'The World At War'.

As for Ambrose, as easy as it is to criticise him as a historian, he still deserves props for attracting people to the subject - as the archetypal contemporary pleb, it was of course HBO's 'Band Of Brothers' that got me interested in the whole thing, having gone on from the show to the book. If one is to develop an unhealthy man - crush on a seminal WWII veteran then I can forgive them in the case of Major Winters, who has been presented as a fantastic and inspirational military officer (RIP xxx).

Yeah but as a channel creator it's beneficial to have as many comments as possible since Google counts evey one as channel interaction and thus rates the video higher in searches and rewards with a higher PCM resulting in more buckaroos per thousand views...same with thumbs down...counts just the same as a thumbs up.

Yeah, something about Ambrose I just don't like....he tends to out the British down quite a bit in some of his books which irritates me. As for Maj. Winters, he was indeed one if the best US company commanders of the war and a great leader...but again, Ambrose just bugs me by going on and on and on about him and some if it is just utter cringe.

Beevor, Kershaw and Hastings just run rings around Ambrose as historians and writers in general.

If you can get a cheap copy, you must read Armageddon by Max Hastings. One of the best accounts of the final collapse of the Third Reich I've ever read.....and I've read a few.

As well as the campaigns in the West, Stalingrad is a fascinating Battle/campaign in so many respects...from the vicious fighting, tactics, the incompetence of Hitler and the Nazi leadership in how theyvhandled it (like Goering saying he could resupply the entire encircled 6th army by air and not coming even remotely close to doing so....To Hitler's decision to split up his attacking forces and sending half South to attack the oilfields in the Caucasus...To the bitter cold....Use of snjipers in the ruins and the rubble making it impassable to armour etc.etc.etc.

God Bless America.

They insist (under the UN Single Convention) that every country prohibits the use of cannabis, then turns around and decides that it is OK for them to do it.

I still am of the genuinely belief that I will not see cannabis (or any other drug of abuse) legalised in the UK in my own lifetime (well, average life expectancy as I can hardly see myself getting too much further).

"Legal marijuana cuts violence says US study":

Well no fuckin shit Sherlock. Didn't see that one coming... :\
I suppose if you were in charge of a corrupt police force and/or prison service, and liked shooting people dead for not obeying your capricious orders in a sufficiently timely and unquestioning manner, then you might conceivably regard a reduction in violent crime as a bad thing .....

"On the day he died he was informed his hip had graduated to a full-on break and it is our feeling that the pain was simply unbearable and was the cause for his over use of medication," according to the statement from Dana Petty, his wife, and Adria Petty, his daughter.

...

The medical examiner's news release said the autopsy found these drugs in Petty's system: fentanyl, oxycodone, acetyl fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl, which are opioids; temazepam and alprazolam, which are sedatives; and citalopram, an antidepressant.

...

The cause of death was "multisystem organ failure due to resuscitated cardiopulmonary arrest due to mixed drug toxicity" and the manner of death was "accident," the medical examiner's news release said.

...

:sus:

Never did like his music but never happy to see another fellow human bean die so... <3
