How long to wait after Methadone, to take Oxycodone?
    #1
    Hey guys!

Im wondering, if i did jump off Methadone at 35, or maybe 20 mg, how long would i have to wait before i could take the oxy (and feel it)

I bought the oxycodone since I haven't been able to get oxy for a long time, and i just could not pass that opportunity by.
The thought of quitting a drug with such a long half-life as Methadone also scares the living sh*t out of me, whenever i think about it actually.. So I thought, if i took some oxy for at least 2-4 weeks, I'd make it just a tiny bit less drawn-out.
I know it may sound stupid, but that's just how i feel. I'm not asking if i should do it.

I might taper down (The M'done) even more

I have tried finding the answer elsewhere on bluelight, but i really just cant find the answer tohow long the Methadone completely blocks the oxy from working.

So the only thing i really want to know is, how many days will i have to wait, before i can feel my oxy again?

    Thanks

I mean, you're going to wait until you start to feel the beginnings of withdrawal and then you're going to take the oxy. If someone tells you to wait three days, and you start shaking after 24 hours, are you really gonna wait another 2 days?

I might, if someone was sure that the methadone would block the oxy at that point

I don't know. I think that 60-70 mg is the 100% blocking dose, but i don't know if lower doses of methadone also blocks other opies, but i've read here on BL that it supposedly should block in lower doses as well, just not that 100% blockage.

I'm not sure, please educate me

Coming off methadone is a bitch I had to come off 115mg's cold turkey and that was such a horrible experience the comedown last so much longer.than any othere opiate imo that I have came off of at lease and no I don't think you will be able to feel the Oxy while still taking the mdone I IV'ed over 36mg's of hydromorphone at once on mdone and didn't feel a thing..

No, but it you took 115 mg's, that's a given, that you did'nt feel it. I'm only taking 35 mgs

It really depends. Methadone will render oxycodone and most other opiates useless at dosages above sixty milligrams. At lower dosages (between 20-50mg) methadone will not block opiates, given that the amount/potency of the short acting opiate can compete with the methadone-on the contrary, Can potentially potentiate their effects.

In your individual situations we really need to know how much Oxycodone you're planning on taking, as well as the ROA (all though Oxycodone is one of the few opiates that has high absorption rates through almost all modes of administration, though using drugs like oxy intravenously, intranasally, or rectally can cause a perception of a stronger high as the drug takes effect quicker and reaches its peak plasma concentrations quicker as well-yet all the while it can still actually have a lower absorption than oral consumption.)

I myself am on a relatively low dose of methadone (50mg), and I can definitely get high off a rather small dose of IV heroin (compared to how long I've been taking dope on top of my methadone). I imagine I could definitely get a buzz off of oxycodone, I would probably just need to use a large amount which wouldn't be worth the money (considering I'd be able to get high multiple times for the same amount of money on heroin). I will say, that when I was at 40mg, I could keep myself stable off methadone by shooting about 3 bags a day. It wasn't wonderful, but I never went into full withdrawal during that period.

Oe thing I will say is that replacing methadone with oxycodone towards the end of a taper can theoretically work in cutting down the length of withdrawals, but its unlikely to work. I don't know how strong willed you are, but I a guarantee that once you start feeling the oxycodone like you used to again, your incentive to quit is likely going to drop some. You'll also end up taking a shitload of oxycodone multiple times a day just to stay comfortable.

So if your question is whether switching to oxycodone from methadone towards the end of your methadone taper-than I would say its likely a bad idea. You're better off switching to a short acting agonist for 3-4 days (after stabilizing at 30mg and under) and then going on buprenorphine (suboxone/Subutex) which you can accurately and slowly taper yourself at home withal

However if you just want to know if you can get high off of oxycodone at a dose of about 35mg of methadone, than the answer for most would be 'yes'-assuming that you're not taking like, a 5mg Percocet.

I am quite strong willed, and have had a lot of diffrent pills stashed, that i couldve taken while i felt like crap, but didnt, as i have promised myself that its all for when i quit the done.

Im not sure how much oxy im planning on taking. I kind of dont know how my tollerance is looking as of now x)

And im not asking if its a good idea. I really find it very nice of you to try and help me, but i am planning on doing it no matter what. Yes i will like the feeling, no doubt. But i like m'done as well. Its euphoric to me.. And as i said, i am quite strong willed with CERTAIN things XD

I had very unpleasant side-effects with Bupe, but actually do have some bupe. I didn't want to write down my entire quitting-plan as that didnt have a whole lot to do with my actual question.. Which was only about the methadone and oxy.
But i have some bupe that i am planning on taking after i take the oxy for a weeks time, and then im going to taper from the bupe, because i cant stay too long on it, as i have the side-effects (as mentioned before)
Sound like a good plan? And then i have an excuse for taking the oxy that i have bought, but not for too long, which was never my plan- i dont really have enough for that!!. hahah!

You should be able to feel your oxy when still on 35ml of methadone.
Personally, I stopped methadone at 65ml four days ago & am just doing heroin. I was getting a good high after 24 hours

When I was on about 100mg-120mg/day, 10-12hrs after my methadone dose I was given a 10mg fenantyl (duragesic; with the gel) to smoke, which I did in a record time of probably 6-8min (literally hit after hit- to get the highest I would be in my life), definatley within 10min I effectively smoked 10mg fentanyl which would otherwise last me a good 3-4 days of smoking and being 24hrs/day high. This didn't do NOTHING, not even the equivalent of a few Tylenol 3-s, I mean nothing, so yes when it comes to blocking opioids methadone is THAT potent.

I heard a blocking dose is anything above 30mg when I was doing the MMT program, which leads me to my question the reason why I posted:

    1. If one is taking methadone and opioids on top for breakthrough pain (percocet 5mg), since the methadone is strong enough to take over the opioid receptors/block them, would you still get the physical effects such as extra pain relief, cough suppression, respiratory depression?

    2. The actual pain relieving effects of methadone are usually between 8-10hrs after which you still feel an afterglow enough to keep cravings and wd's at bay but not enough to nod like the first couple of hours, if you are taking it daily there will be accumulation in the blood but since you do not feel the methadone in your head after 20+hrs does that mean the receptors are ready for whatever narcotic your planning to take (even oral ones like oxy)?

    We've talked about this bud.

30 is not a blocking dose. Maybe it's the dose when blocking effects begin.

    Not a chance.

That's what I was about to say... If you "jump off" at 20-30mg's you should be able to "feel" other short-acting opioids even BEFORE "jumping off..." I think according to SAMHSA the therapeutic dose starts around 60mg and the BLOCKADE range starts at 80mg... So the vast majority of folks are going to be able to feel other opioids at doses even higher than the 20-30mg's you're talking about.

That being said, I wouldn't encourage ANY opioid dependent person to just "jump off" methadone without tapering (SLOW and STEADY) all the way down to 1 or 2mg's. Methadone withdrawals are very long and very bad absent a proper medical taper........

^ THIS TIMES 9001. Some people can take just stopping cold at 20-30mg, most (like me) can't. Hell, I feel like I'm dying when I wind my dose down 15mg (though I don't advise this; it was a desperate stupid thing to do, even went against the doctors advice "you're going down way too fast, take a couple weeks to stabilize from the last reduction, [which was two weeks prior, went down by 35mg in 4-5 weeks,] then we can go down another 5, 10 maybe", I said nope take off 15mg, holy sweet mother of christ, I've never been so dopesick.) I don't understand how some people can go a day or two without their 'done, ARE YOU SUPERHUMAN OR WTF?!

    Quick question concerning methadone
    #19
My dog was on methadone for close to three years at 80 mg a day and 65 days ago He stopped cold turkey and of course went through total hell... Three days ago he relapsed and bought some Percocets which he's been taking an avg of 30mgs a day but today not being able to find anything he's taken a 10mg methadone pill.. My question is two part: will he even feel this 10mgs of methadone and how long will it alter the effects of anything else (hydro or oxy) he may find later? PS I'm sorry I'm new to this site and don't know how to start my own post if that's what I need to do.

Why was your dog on methadone? How did it manage to buy percocets?

I'd take it to the veterinary clinic, preferably a canine specialist if possible.

Give your dog a cuddle from me x
