So I just received a scrip for Xanax to deal with anxiety issues. .25mg IR pills with the directions to be taken once every 8 hrs. First of all the dose seems silly! Is this a normal starting dose? :\ I was once given these before an MRI and each pill was .5 with the directions to take both. Anyhoo, I also take 200mg Provigil daily for MS related fatigue and then 40mg Prozac because I am a sadly depressed lady. In my head I think wow, these things all sort of go against each other don't they? The Xanax didn't do anything so I took another and suddenly I was the sleepiest kitten in all the land. The Provigil is supposed to keep me from being tired so I feel like wow, that's dumb then to take the Xanax if its going to just wipe me out. Also I realized that I have read that the prozac can increase the sleepies from Xanax. So this drug cocktail seems like a real mess!! Am I wasting my time with the Xanax if all its going to do is put me to sleep? Is it the dose I am taking? Because it really did NOTHING at all. Is my prozac maybe getting in the way or perhaps the provigil? Anyone had any experience with this odd mixture or have any ideas for me? I am supposed to be seeing someone Tues for a meds review but I have to make it until Tues first! Any help would be appreciated. <3

Well as I've been through similar situations a few times myself, I will say that the best thing to do it talk it over with your doctor, and assuming he is fairly competent, it's just a matter of trial and error. Sad, time consuming, frustrating, but true.

Here are interactions between what you're taking now if that helps any.

My best recommendation is if you don't feel the benzo is doing any good for you at the present, then avoid it. They are very addictive even if they aren't working properly, and very much an addiction you don't want.

Hang in there, and let us know how things are after your visit to the docs.

Hey guys, I wanted to emphasize that the Xanax prescription may not be helping. Each drug works different for everyone so it is hard to get the right combo. Maybe just try the Xanax during situations or times when you really need it. I do that with valium and its usually at night time because valium really puts you to into a deep relaxed/tired state. I also take 30 mg of Prozac daily but no matter what when I combine a benzo with my daily dose, Im foggy and tired all day. Im no doctor but that's my advice from experience. Keep us posted!! Best wishes to all!

Provigil is really a bitch to take with most benzos, it will cut the duration and potency of your xanax in half

So I have had the craziest week in all of ever but in a good way. Finally saw a meds specialist and have changed up the game completely. I am totally done with the Provigil. My Prozac has been increased to 60mg a day (I was at 40), my Xanax scrip was changed from those ridiculous .25mg pills to 1mg bars (as needed) and get this...they have added IRON and B12 supplements of all things. Apparently I have severe iron deficiency anemia and never knew it. The stupid fatigue I have been suffering from is related to that and my MS. Apparently you can actually use SSRI's and vitamin B12 to help combat fatigue. So instead of having to take this crazy expensive Provigil, that didn't do much and certainly didn't do anything to help my anxiety, I get to simply pop an extra prozac and take some cheap OTC vitamins. Now I don't have anything increasing my anxiety or fighting against the Xanax when I need it. So things just got a whole lot simpler and I am hoping this new regimen works out for me.

In other news, I fell down my stairs on the way to work yesterday. Fortunately I didn't break anything. Just lots of fancy new bruises and a sprained toe. Even better it earned me an early refill on my norco scrip. Hooray! When life gives you lemons, etc etc... :)
