The flame method seems to work best, tends to burn better but I do have another method that works well.
I use the same method for flower when I'm sans grinder, using a pair of sharp scissors (fabric scissors work well). It's good to have a dedicated pair if you're going to use this method regularly. Just roll the hash out into a strip and cut it up into small pieces. If your hash is too hard and isn't malleable, using a hot air gun/blow dryer works a treat to soften it up, but you might have to use a knife to cut it down smaller.
The blow dryer is what we used to use at the dispensary I worked at when we were divvying up a big brick of hash into grams. One time we were desperate to get some on the shelf and had no hair dryer so we ended up using the shop toaster oven! Basic idea still the same though
