Cards Poker (Texas Hold'em)

Those badass moments wouldn't be so exhilarating without the hours of boredom.

NH ali! Did you put your pimp hat on after that?

i played in the thursday night deep stack last night. never really got going and ended up at final table with about half the chip average. was getting low and shipped all in with about 8 bb with pockets 55s. ran into qq and was done.

but...

on the way out i stopped and put $20 in a video poker machine at the bar and this happened:

got one-outed in the tourney on tuesday night. i raised big with AK and got one call. flop comes A4K. guy checks and i bet about half pot. he calls. turn is a Q for A4KQ. guy leads out with a big bet. i have him covered by about 3 to 2 so i ship it all-in. he deflates and starts talking about how he got caught, played this hand bad, etc.

he's a little drunk and he makes the "ah fuck it" call for the rest of his chips. he turns over JQ for a pair of queens. J doesn't help him obviously and another player at the table 'helpfully' says that he folded a Q. he has 1 out and hits it on the river for trip QQQ to beat my monster 2 pair.

i'm about 98% to survive there! fml!

You get caught in some crazy hands ali. Do you typically do like one tournament a week, or less than that?

yeah, the wsop circuit comes through here on october 25th - november 5th. i'm sure i'll play a satellite or two and maybe the $400 event.

Mods - is there an existing thread to merge this with? If not, does this still have legs for discussion with current members?

I'm going to Vegas in mid September. Does anyone know how playing holdem in casinos works? Like do you just pay upfront for a seat? Or how does that work

cash games you can just buy in. there will usually be a minimum and maximum buy in. tourneys will be scheduled and you can typically sign up in advance.

everybody has a bad beat story or 10...

i played in a tourney last night and was involved in an epic beat. i am normally on the receiving end but, last night, it was not me who got screwed :(

down to 4 of us in a tourney that started with about 20 people. there were 2 big stacks (~60k chips) and 2 smallish stacks - one woman had about 35k and i was small stack with about 20k . blinds are 4k/8k. i was utg and looked down at::

any ace so i ship it. guy to my left folds. small blind folds. big blind snap calls and turns over:

sigh. just my luck she has a monster in the bb but i have outs.

flop comes:

of course i saw the ace of diamonds right in the window and got really excited. flop a huge 2 pair but she hits one of her 2 outs for a set. now i'm down to 2 outs (assuming no runner runner 2s) because my 2s are gone and miles behind.

turn came:

a blank. on to the river:

boom! hit a 2-outer on the river. holy shit.

so i'm now in 3rd place and looking good to cash at least 3rd. two hands later i get 77 and ship it. bb thinks for a while then calls with KQ and hits a Q and i'm done.

love poker!

having a great week. on sunday night i played the cash game before the tourney and did something i have never done before - cashed out for more than i started with! i haven't really analyzed it much but my cash game is just terrible. feel so much more confident and comfortable in tourney poker.

anyway, it's $1/$2 no limit - i bought in for $100 and cashed out for $260. so that paid my buy-in for the sunday evening tourney. it was quiet and i took it down for $280. on monday night i chopped 1st/2nd for $200 - another quiet night. got 2nd plane on tuesday for $275 and took down my shit-show home game last night for $380. paid this months rent with winnings from last 4 days :)

i don't play online. i play in the casino and at a weekly home game. global poker looks interesting - i'll check it out, thanks.

i had a couple of good nights over the weekend.

saturday night's a $25 bounty tournament. it was quietish - maybe 12 or 15 buy-ins. we were down to 4 - 2 big stacks and 2 small stacks. i was a small stack and lost an all-in leaving me with a single 1k chip. blinds were 1k/2k. i was all-in in the big blind. won the hand. next hand, all in in the small blind. won that. won another hand and got up to 18k. in the meantime, the other small stack lost an all-in and i limped into a 3rd place cash :)

on sunday night, i was beat down. blinds were 200/400 and i was down to 1600 in chips. hit a hot streak and 15 minutes later i had over 40k in chips and went on to win it. two good comebacks from the brink...

I just had an interesting hand to close out a sit and go.

7 7 me
A K opponent

I go all in he calls

3 5 A.. 7.. A.

So I won with a full house 777AA and he went down with trip A's.

I like that site. Took 3rd in the new player 1000 free role. Took 2nd in a 1500 tourney. Finished in the $ a bunch. Cashing out some contest winnings now so i'll let you guys know how that goes.

I like playing poker. I would like to play with someone of member of the forum if you desire it. It's become assumed to be true and never challenged that most poker players have only one goal - to make the most money. But that's far from the main idea of the game ( the pleasure)

on the first tuesday of the month, my casino has a $125 buy-in nlh tourney with $25 bounties.

played last night and took it down. won 5 bounties and with first place walked with $745.
