The purpose of this thread is to discuss the theories and practices for cleaning up MDMA Powders and Ecstasy Pills.

Initially I suspect this will be a few ideas and theories and eventually I hope at Bluelight we can come up with the Ultimate Cleaning Solution.

I have researched this topic high and low and the information I have found so far has been fragmented and scattered.

I hear this question time and time again:

"how do I turn my Brown Molly Crystals into crystaline white?"

Hopefully over time this is the thread for some final answers.

This is True Harm Reduction for all users.

No matter how crazy an idea or theory please throw it out there.

Everyones comments and contributions welcomed..

Please tell us about any techniques or ideas you have for these processes.

Part (1) Anhydrous Acetone

First of all you need something that wont dissolve the MDMA. One example solvent that is used for this is called Acetone. Acetone is a non polar solvent and as a result of being non polar does not dissolve MDMA.

Acetone comes from many sources including Brush and Paint Thinners and Cleaners.

Nail polish remover uses acetone but best not to use this.

For the acetone to be effective for your needs it needs to be Anhydrous this means it contains no water. If there is water in it this is going to dissolve your product which for cleaning purposes we definitely dont want.

For obtaining Anhydrous Acetone you have two options (1) Order some lab grade anhydrous acetone (2) Make some

As discussed by users in this thread it is agreed making your own is much preferred. There are several reasons:

(1.) Its a good starting place for the new world of home MDMA experiments

(2.) Its an awful lot cheaper

(3.) One less chemical you have to order making less attention of yourself

(4.) Acetone has a nasty habit of attracting water. Over time it will become hydrated. You can defeat this by simply adding more of your newly made magnesium product into the acetone.

Purchase regular Acetone from your local paint supply store. Acetone is easier to source in America than in UK. If you are in UK you need to go to a specialist paint supplies for Acetone unlikely B&Q etc will have it. In America Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware etc all have it. You will also need to buy some epsom salts.

What you need:

(1.) Approx 1 litre acetone (Pure, no mixed chemicals)(Home Depot Acetone is fine)

(2.) 100g - 500g epsom salt (usually comes in bags)

(3.) Aluminium Foil

(4.) Disposable gloves

(5.) Cooking or Drug Scales

(6.) Clean Jam Jar

(7.) 500mL Clear Glass Reagent Bottle

(8.) Glass Funnel

(9.) Piece of A4 Printer Paper

(10.) Cooking Oven & Baking Tray


How to Cook Anhydrous Acetone

(1.) Place the Glass Funnel into the 500mL Reagent Bottle. Empty half the contents of the tin of Acetone into it. (Store your surplus Acetone can in a cool dark place)

(2.) Using your drug scales weigh 100g Epsom Salt. Empty this out onto a folded piece of A4 paper. Sprinkle out the Epsom Salt onto an aluminium foil covered baking tray.

(3.) Place tray in oven and bake at 400oF for 2 hours.

(4.) You now have a greyish looking ash which has become Anhydrous Magnesium Sulphate

(5.) Remove from oven. Allow to cool down to a sensible temperature. Put on your gloves. Using a teaspoon scrape up the magnesium sulphate ash and put it all in your glass jam jar.

(6.) Using a teaspoon weigh out 10g of Anhydrous Magnesium Sulphate using your drug scales. Empty the 10g magnesium onto a piece of A4 paper with a fold in it. Use the paper to pour the magnesium into your Glass reagent Bottle of Acetone. (Store your jam jar full of surplus Anhydrous Magnesium Sulphate in the refrigerator or a cool dark place.)

(7.) Once all the magnesium sulphate is poured into the 1 Litre Bottle of acetone replace the lid and shake vigorously for about 5 minutes. This will insure that the magnesium sulphate has completely absorbed any and all of the water/alcohol that's in the hardware store acetone.

(8.) Let stand for 24 hours to insure that all of the magnesium sulphate has fully absorbed all of the water/alcohol and has thus sunk to the bottom of the bottle.

Once done try to not disturb the resedue at the bottom. Always keep it still & upright in a cool and dry place. We want that pile of goo, now at the bottom of the can, to stay there undisturbed. The purpose of having the Acetone in a clear bottle is so you can monitor the status of the Magnesium Sulphate. If you can always extract the actone using your pipette and always immediately seal the lid. Remember moisture from the air is desperate to get into that acetone. Moisture in the acetone gobbles product (bad for raver :( )

Voila Anhydrous Acetone. A valuable component for MDMA Cleaning.

Warning!

Anhydrous Actone likes to become hydrous very quickly if you dont look after it. Keep the lid closed at all times. ideally keep it in the fridge or better still the freezer.

We strongly advise you make your own Anhydrous Acetone and dont buy it as you can keep topping it up with Magnesium Sulphate as required.

Part (2) Cleaning up Pills

In the procedures listed you will be able to clean up pills removing fillers, binders, flours, dyes, caffeine, speed and give your MD** a general spring clean.

This procedure provides minimal loss and gives the Raver a chance to remove some of the nasty things that you have to digest when you eat these awful illicit pills.

One pill on average contains anything from 60mG - 200mG of MD** analog. At the end of this procedure you will have destroyed the blue sonic the hedgehog esk tablet and be left with what is better known as "Molly" crystal. Far more desirable and far less candy kid. Something that you can now produce at the dinner table :)

IMPORTANT! BEFORE YOU START TEST YOUR PILLS AND MAKE SURE THEY CONTAIN MD**

What you need:

As far as I am aware none of the listed equipment is watched or monitored for illicit activity.

As the list below is relatively long ebay will incur lots of delivery charges. Personally I would recomend a one stop shop. Or if you want to cover your tracks divide the order into two.

Just make sure if you phone the order through and you get asked what you are doing just be ready to have an answer. There are a million reasons you would use this filtering equipment that doesnt involve cleaning up Ecstasy Pills and MDMA Powder.

Section 1 (Removing Caffeine, Binder, Filler, Dye, Adulterant that dissolve in Acetone & MD crystal seperation)

Important Note: If your beaker full of acetone is not having a process conducted on it then make sure it is covered by the aluminium foil at all times. This is to prevent evaporation and also water from entering the acetone from the air. If water enters the acetone it will dissolve product.

(1.) Using your glass Mortar & Pestle crush up the relevant MD** pill. Crush the pills nicely into powder. Make sure this powder is crushed as fine as possible.

(2.) First fill your beaker with 20mL of Anhydrous Acetone using the Glass Pipette. Pour the crushed pill powder into the Acetone (dont put the powder in first before the acetone). Stir for a few minutes using your Glass Stir Rod.

(3.) Cover the lid of the beaker with your Aluminium Foil (to prevent evaporation) and leave to settle. Once settled you will see a bottom layer has formed of MD** Crystals mixed with any other cuts/adulterants etc that arent soluble in acetone. All the additional crap in the pill has now dissolved and has dissolved in the clear acetone liquid at the top (when I say clear I mean nothing floating around in it) (it may well have a colour this is okay). This is now the "poluted acetone" that we want to get rid of.

(4.) Place your Glass Funnel into the top of your Erlenmeyer flask. Put a round filter paper into the top of your glass funnel. The purpose for this is to prevent any waste of product. Carefully pour off the clear layer of acetone into your Filter setup stopping before you empty out any wanted product. If for any reason some good product goes in the filter this is okay because you are filtering as a safety precaution. Once you have successfully removed the clear layer of acetone you should now have a mixture of MD** crystal + non dissolved adulterants left at the bottom of the beaker.

(5.) Squirt another pipettes worth (approx 10mL) of Anhydrous Acetone into your beaker with the product in it and stir again. Once again Aluminium Foil the top of the beaker to prevent evaporation and let it settle. This time look carfully at the resedue at the bottom. There should be MDMA crystals at the bottom and above a layer of pill resedue. On next pour this time you want to get rid of the clear acetone and also this resedue above the MD** crystals.

keep repeating this procedure until you have got rid of all the resedue and are just left with the magic crystals.

(6.) Remove the filter paper and put to one side to dry. This filter paper may have a small amount of product in it so save it till later. You can pick out the crystals once its dried if required.

(7.) Put a fresh filter paper in your Glass Funnel. Using your pipette squirt just enough acetone into the beaker with the product still in it. Quickly swish the product around. Now pour the entire contents into the fresh filter setup. Do another squirt with the pipette into the beaker get any remaining crystal resedue out and pour into the filter with the rest of the crystal. For a final rinse get a pipette full of fresh acetone and squirt over all the crystals. Cover the top now with Aluminium Foil whilst the acetone fully drains through the product. Allow it time to drain properly.

(8.) Carefully remove the filter paper and fold it in half onto the crystals applying pressure to squeeze out as much remaining acetone into the flask. Next place the folded filter paper with the crystals inside into your pyrex specimen dish. Get your hair dryer onto hot and whilst the crystals are still folded in the filter blow dry for approx 5 minutes. Hold the filter whilst blow drying or it might blow away.

(9.) Open up the filter and place it on a paper towel. The plan now is to remove any excess acetone. Use another paper towel to dab the crystals trying to dry out as much as possible.
Once you are happy the crystals are as dry as you can get them Carefully tip and scrape the dried crystals off the filter paper using your spatula and stanley blade blade into your Petri Dish.

Some prefer to leave the crystals in the paper during the drying process. This is something you will have to experiment with.

(10.) Leave the crystals for a minimum of 48 hours to fully dry out. If they still reak of acetone leave for a while longer. Some suggest having them under a lamp may help but Futura thinks this is a waste of electricity and is likely unnecessary.

Technique for extracting the crystals from the original waste filter

(1) Take the original filter paper containing mostly cuts along with the few MDMA crystals that fell thru with the original pours and crush the mixture up thoroughly.

(2) Pour the entire contents onto one side of a wax coated paper plate. Take the plate in your hands and tilt it slightly towards you with the pile at the top. From underneath, gently tap on the pile and the crystals will pop out of and fall directly down the plate towards you. Stop tapping when the powder starts to fall with the crystals.

(3) Using your stanley blade or spatula gather the crystals and put them on a seperate plate. Push the entire pile back to the top and keep repeating this tedious process for about 10-15 minutes until every last crystal has been seperated. Once complete discard the old filter your mission is complete.

Technique for extracting product from the waste Acetone

(1) Empty dirty Acetone into your Pyrex Dish

(2) Leave to evaporate

(3) Using spatula scrape product into beaker

(4) Perform mini acetone wash

(5) Dry / empty in petri dish / Dry some more

(6) Follow steps above with paper plate to extract MDMA crystals

Epic thread idea. I love the HR here to get pure MD vs something cut to shit/still dirty from synth. I learned this extracting mescaline, salting from d-limo gives brown goo after enough saltings/pulls. But that goo contains at least 50% mesc, its just dirty as hell. Acetone washes/water re-x's can clean it up nicely.

I'm sure you know this, but for others who may be less chemically inclined, hcl salts of alot of different chemicals/alkaloids are insoluble in acetone, so while washing with acetone does remove impurities, it will leave the hcl salts of many other things your MD might be cut with. Like meth/amphetamine/etc. Still better than dirty MD, but worth noting.

I got some chunky sticky brown crystals a month or so back and did an acetone wash on them/water re-x a few times and ended up with a nice off white powder. The trick is to wash it with minimal cold dry acetone 1-2x, then redissolve in water and evaporate what doesn't wash away from the acetone washes. Then scrape that up and wash it again, repeat if necessary until its off-white/white. Technically its not a re-x, but redissolving and forming the crystals with less impurities present allows you to form cleaner crystals. Since there was probably significant impurities trapped in the MD crystal structure to begin with, re-crystalizing it, even just by dissolving it in distilled water and evaporating allows some of those impurities to escape the inside of the crystals and be able to be washed away with additional acetone washes. Repeat enough times and you can get fairly pure/white MD from brown sass.

Also, save all you acetone washes, i have dry acetone and it dissolves an appreciable amount of MD hcl when washing. After your done washing, evap all that dirty tone, and wash that goo with minimal acetone for a bit of semi-dirty MD. Use as little acetone as possible to wash this, and you can recover a few % you lost in the tone washes. Your always going to have some loss, but depending on how much crystal you are washing you can salvage a dose or two sometimes this way.

The way i wash, is to put your dirty powdered MD in a small shot glass, wash with a few mls of tone 2x, then dissolve it in minimal distilled water, drop a bit of cotton in it and pipette up the distilled water/dissolved md through that cotton to filter any insolubles (not md salts). No filters necessary, and you don't lose product getting stuck to the filter.
 
As daytryptr has stated above, "Epic thread"! Very useful information that I going to give a go.

I have a few questions, to make anhydrous acetone, is it really that easy? Is there anything else that needs to be done?

And secondly to daytryptr, could you go more in depth about the water washing? Do you just dissolve the MDMA into a small amount of water, then let it sit to evaporate? After that are you just left with a power/crystals?

The only anhydrous/dry acetone is that with dessicant inside. Acetone, as with ethanol, will absorb moisture from the air. You might be able to buy anhydrous acetone, but as soon as you open the bottle it wont be dry anymore. Make your own dry epsom salts and add to the acetone. Keep adding the salts until you can see rocks at the bottom of the bottle that look dry. Then add a little more. Those dry salts will absorb the moisture that the acetone tries to pull when exposed to air. Occasionally inspect the dessicant as time goes by. If you cant see any dry chunks, add some more dry salts. You get to recycle all these salts when the acetone is used up.

Its also ok to pour from the bottle, just dont shake it up before use.

Remember, it wont take much water content in the acetone to wash a significant amount of product away. Test this for yourself, see how much MDxx you can dissolve in a tiny amount of water. This experiment will sharpen the senses when it comes to messing with this kind of thing.

You are correct worth noting for sure. Getting rid of the meth/amphet is coming in part 2. Should be edited by the time you read this.

I assume re-x means recrystalize.

Could you be a bit more specific with this method with the quantity of MDMA vs how much water. Instructions etc.

Could you explain this in more detail. Its a bit difficult to follow. How would this work with a load of pill bunk? i assume this would only be a suitble method for MDMA crystal only.

From all the research I have done seems that way. Next thing we should look at is good sources for Acetone. Home Depot, Lowes, Ace etc for USA. For UK paint supplies I dont know if B&Q stock it I dont think so.

May I confess I have never washed mdma. My contribution was generic, but I have used dry acetone for other things.

Determining amount of epsoms needed requires a transparent (or semi) container. You will be able to clearly see that some of the epsoms look dry, even though immersed in liquid. Its the only way I can tell the amount needed. You actually want a surplus anyway to deal with the moisture the acetone sucks in when exposed to air. The short answer on how much to put in is 'too much' :)

Hey, I've ran into a little speed bump, from what I know the only acetone Home Depot stocks around me comes in a metal container. Would it be safe to store the acetone in a plastic container such as a 2L pop bottle? Or will the acetone react with it or corrode it?

Totally agree this whole process is just a chemistry experiment really. I agreed with what you said about making your own acetone. Makes more sense to be able to keep boosting the anhydrous acetone as it attracts more water. I have updated the above notes to reflect on your advice.

Thats a good idea. This way the user can inspect the acetone from outside the container. I assume acetone is okay in plastic containers. I would have to sniff something on ebay that would be suitable. Far better than the usual tin the stuff comes in. It would have to have a sealed top. I guess a plastic drink bottle would do it. I dunno for sure.

No!

Plastic isnt one material, and acetone will eat a lot of them. I dont know all the safe plastics but HDPE (recycle #2) is safe (enough).

If in doubt, test a drop or two on the plastic. Only if there is no reaction (discolouration etc) should you use it. Or check with someone who knows..
 
Plastic is a bit debatable. I think certain plastics are okay as nail varnish remover can come in plastic bottles.

However Futura has been a sensible bee and decided a 500mL Clear Glass Reagent bottle would be best. 500mL size is easier to store and cheaper to buy.

So I just got 1L of acetone from walmart, it came in a metal container but my plan is to only make anhydrous acetone as I need it so I think a water bottle would be able to contain it for 24 hours.

I did a little google search and came across a forum thread right on the topic:

It seems plastic is okay for short term storage, but for any long term storage a metal container is needed.

Hopefully that sheds some light on this. :)

Reagent Bottle is designed for exactly the requirement

Glass is better than plastic. It needs to be clear so you can inspect the magnesium sulphate.

500mL is a nice easy size to handle. Pipette will happily reach into it. Cheers for the link I will investigate it and pull out any good bits and add them to ours :)
 
Let me assure you acetone eats some plastics. About 1ml of acetone ate 5mg off a plastic item of mine in less than 5 seconds.

Glass is always better if you can find it. I find Tesco White Vinegar bottles very useful. They are glass, and the cap must be able to withstand acidic contents.
 
Hello trippy. Yeah agreed on the plastics. Upgraded to a reagent bottle. Im trying to go for stuff that is the same worldwide so where ever you choose to do this its always the same.
 
futura2012, I you a huge thanks for this thread. I recently consumed some MDxx that tested positive on a marquis test, after it tested positive I did everything you and others mentioned and it couldn't have turned out better! I washed out about 600mg of binders and fillers out of the capsules I had and it made dosing a BREEZE. I'm glad I did that seeing how I had a first timer with me and that could have ended quite disappointing for him if it wasn't cleaned up. Thanks again, I think this thread should be a sticky IMO.

Could someone help me out with those filters? What filters are the best? Where can I pick some up? I have read others using coffee filters but they seem to be just okay. I have time so I want to find a proper and good filter.

you can buy them from Amazon. I never washed my molly. so i don't have specific experience... Pick one with a diameter size that goes well with your funnel. As for the pore size, I don't know.. grade 1 should be fine, but maybe someone else will give you better advice.
As for coffee filters: here http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi...rums/thread_display.html?forum_thread_id=2361 someone mentions the pore size of coffee filters. If the data reported there are accurate you could use one instead of a lab filter, but there is no guarantee that you won't find some larger 'holes' in the specific filter you're using.
