Indiana residents

We would not stand for not being able to buy alcohol on a Sunday in the UK.
There is nothing nicer than going to the pub on a Sunday afternoon for a few pints of lager, game of pool and then watch the football on the TV.
Enjoy that last day off work before Monday morning arrives.

Well in pubs and bars is one thing, I think you can still do that on Sunday in any state, you just can't go to the store to bring it home.

We can still buy booze from shops on a Sunday as well, I think the only rule is you can't buy any before 10 or 11am.

Well bars and restaurants they'd sell it to you but not for take out. Even during the week, the concept of bars allowing take-home does not exist here. You can still drink it there but nothing goes home. Now, there's some shady bodegas and shit that would still sell to you on Sundays in the cities, but that's not guaranteed or legal.

I hope you're kidding. Just because you don't smoke you shouldn't be a puss about it. "oh no seciond hand smoke!" then go stand in the other corner. God forbid you have to smell a cigarette from across the room. Now restaurants and grocery stores and hospitals and shit I understand because families with small children go there and shit, but bars should be allowed to smoke in. You're there to poison yourself (and maybe buy some coke) you don't go there to be concerned about your health. I think the bar should have a choice, if you want to be some upscale sports bar that caters to preppy rich kids or something then you probably want a smoke-free environment but if it's some shadowy dive bar full of rednecks and bikers why the fuck wouldn't you let people smoke in there? They've always had the option whether they wanted to allow people to smoke in their establishment, I don't think it's the government's place to be making those types of decisions for everyone.

There are even some places trying to make smoking illegal in public places outdoors. Like I understand that smoking is not as popular as it used to be but man people really have something up their ass about it. If you're OUTSIDE then why the fuck can't you smoke there? That's about as well ventilated of an area as you can get. Sure people might still be able to smell it but catching a passing whiff of it in the breeze isn't enough to poison your lungs and cause cancer. The smell displeases you? Too bad, some people smoke deal with it. Your stupid face displeases me but you don't see me trying to make it illegal for grumpy ugly 40something year old women with nothing better to do than bitch at my life choices to leave their house do you? Smoking is not like some sin that should be abolished to people's homes. If you don't like it, you should just keep your distance. I hate the sound of country music so I just try not to be in bars that play a lot of country music, I don't try to make laws banning country music from public places.

we cant have takeouts here in illinois either( at leat no bar i know of does it) but in indiana thats another story..ive seen it a few time and not just on sundays where they call last call and people go up and get two 6ers to go

and no im not kidding about the no smoking resturants and bars..being im the only one of my friends that doesnt smoke, it never really bothered me but once they banned it, its was good riddence..im not worried about second hand smoke, my mom and dad both smoked its just that shit stinks, who wants to smell someone smoking a ciggarette at the table next to you when your trying to eat? thats disgusting..samething with bars, whast the big deal with steppin outside on the patio to smoke a ciggarette? its nice being able to walk into a bar and not have to walk threw clouds of smelly stale smoke..especially in bars when they allowed smoking, one you left the bar everyones clothes smelled like smoke and thats not cool..i dont care if you smoke, your killing yourself, but just take it outside, its not a big deal..especially bars around here, they all added outdoor patios for smokers and because of this the bars have so much more business because peiople like sitting outside and having drinks..like when i go to the bar, i always sit outside with the smokers cause thats the place to be

i get when people drink they tend to smoke, so thats why you go outseide and do it..why should a nonsmoker have to punished for something someone made a personal choice to do?..you tell me to go stand in the corner if i dont like it, fuck you, you go stand in a corner..its not like you need to smoke, its a disgusting habit and anything they can do to get people to stop, like rasing taxes, im all for it, i love the fact that in cook county you have to pay almost $6 in taxes, hopefully th price causes less kids to start vause they cant afford $10-$11 a pack..theres nothing beneficial that comes form smoking and thats why they are going after it..they are just ryin to save lives

its like schools and how they are banning pop..good kids dont need that shit

Nobody's being punished. If you don't like the smoke, go to a bar that a lot of people don't smoke in. Restaurants and stuff okay I can get down with that I agree nobody wants to smell stale smoke while trying to eat a steak, but you don't go to some bars for the nice atmosphere. You go there to get drunk and play pool and shit. A cigarette goes so nicely. In the right bar you may simply be there to search out some drugs, it's a lot less awkward if you're chilling smoking a butt rather than standing there with your hands in your pockets looking around.

In January when it's fucking 6 degrees and windy outside there's nothing nice about having to go out there to smoke. Plus it makes a big event out of something as simple as having a smoke. I'm not trying to go take some important phone call outside, I just want to light up a cigarette and keep doing what I'm doing. You have to drop what you're doing and go out there. And if you're the only one having a cigarette you have to go stand out there in silence by yourself like an asshole and freeze. Many places without patios you have to put your drink down, hope you don't lose your spot on the pool table, interrupt your conversation, etc, just because some people hate the smell of your "stinky cigarette". It's fucking on fire dude, nobody expects it to smell good. I hate the smell of seafood it really makes me lose my appetite but when I'm out to eat and the guy at the next table over orders a big plate of shellfish I don't tell him to go eat that shit outside

And kids don't need soda you're right, but why take it away from the ones that can do it once in a while without having problems? It's moderation. Besides the fact that I didn't drink soda as a kid, if a child were to have one once in a while their teeth don't all of a sudden rot out and get diabetes. Just teach your kids not to be morons and don't send them to school with 20 dollars spending money because of course they'll spend it on stupid shit. Also if the school sees some kid spending his money on soda or candy and not buying anything for lunch of course they don't allow that. When I was a kid I think fridays were a special day where you could buy an ice cream sandwich after lunch, and they'd check to make sure you actually ate your lunch you couldn't just go buy that shit and nothing else.

I think that comes down to parenting and common sense, it's not the government's job to be making all of these decisions for everyone, same as the smoking thing. It's not your place, keep out of my shit. The same way they can give you a ticket for not wearing your seatbelt, it's not like I'm dui and risking other people's lives. The only person's safety I am risking is my own, and I've got my own reasons for if I do or do not chose to wear the damn thing. The govt really just needs to back the fuck off and stop trying to get all up in everyone's business over stupid shit, that's what this is all about. Sure kids don't need junk food, but how is that the state's problem? Sure cigarettes are bad, but people still like to smoke them. There's just too many laws these days trying to protect people from themselves and it's really a fucking huge invasion of personal free choice.

And cigarettes after taxes do come out to close to $10 a pack around here, even more depending on what brand. I just think it's fucked that they're trying to make decisions for us, who are they to try to scheme us into stopping smoking. It's our own choice to smoke, isn't this supposed to be a free country? It's not like I'm trying to run around naked, I just want to burn some leaves and breathe in the smoke. Eating McDonalds is a fucking disgusting habit but that's still legal to eat there. That and I don't see them banning fat bitches from bars. This is america, we're supposed to be able to make our own free decisions, not be told every little thing that we can or can't do in daily life. Pretty soon they'll be telling what clothes we can wear and what websites we're allowed to visit and what type of music we can listen to. Every year they take more and more freedoms away from us, and they're so small but after a while they build up and we just can't do shit.

I think that its ridiculous for the gov to tell kids and adults, for that matter, what to eat and drink. In ny theyre trying to ban soda over 17oz. Some kids arent obese and are fine drinking sods every now and then. Parents should actually parent their kids about how to be healthy without having the gov step in and enforcing ridiculous mandates. I think its fucked up how high the obesity rate is but im not fat, im underweight.

And i agree with no smoking in family places. But i think at bars and casinos it should be up to te owner if they want smoking at their establishment. Its ridiculous for the gov to mandate that a place where only adults go to, by choice, that you cant smoke. Its all so stupid, all that should matter is was the owner wants

I agree 100% Recky. Here in Michigan the casino is the only place Ome can smoke indoors. Fuck the government.

Damn fuckin straight

yeah man shit's weak

I don't want anyone to wipe my ass for me either guys. I don't think its right for the government to control smoking in bars or soda in schools. Its the same damn big brother policy that has drugs illegal.

Also, why the fuck would they ban soda's over 17 oz.? Wouldn't a kid just buy two? Sounds like they just want to sell smaller units for bigger profit.

Yeah, drugs are harmful to a lot of people but shouldn't we be who decides what we do with our bodies? We weren't born thinking drugs were bad, we were taught that way, just like kids should be taught that soda isn't the best thing in the world for them. Its not the gov's job to make decisions for us-all they should do is do their best to research and then educate people with the truth instead of trying to hold my damn hand every step of the way.

Not trying to say "drugs are bad, m'kay" or soda's no good either, just trying to make a point.

At some of the bars in my neck the woods, someone smoking a cigarette is the least of your worries and I'm not even of age but I have friends that work at some of them/frequent some of them.

Heh I'd really love to sit here and bitch about the government some more, but we really have derailed the shit out of this thread. Let's try and get it back on track

So, yeah Indiana...

Woo.

I have only found one thing I have ever liked about Indiana and that was Three Floyds Brewery in Munster, IN. They make some of the best craft beer I've ever had. Makes sense considering they won "best brewery in the world" at least once or twice in the last 5 years. Unfortunately it's near Gary, so it's a bit of a drive for me. They don't do much exporting out of Indiana except for the Chicago area and very limited releases of seasonal beers to Ohio or Kentucky -- but they sell out in a matter of 3-4 hours!

Every now and then when I visit my older brother and my nephews out in the Chi-Burbs, I stop at Three Floyds on the way back. Unfortunately the drive through Indiana (especially on I-70 coming from Ohio) smells overwhelmingly like farm animal poop. Even with windows and vents closed...

Three Floyds is great stuff, I live quite near the brewery. There's a few other brewerys springing up around here lately for some reason as well. Must be the new get rich" fad. As for the animal shit, thats more central Indiana where they have legit swine and cattle farms. Definitely not the most enjoyable odor. And we can't forget all those god damn crazy looking wind turbines they put up!

I just saw an article that was talking about how people are making tons of money smuggling ciggs into chicago cause we have over $5 in taxes on every pack, and Indiana only has $1 and Missouri only $.17...so people are goin and buying 10-20 cartoons at a time and then flipping them and making bank. But in the article they say only 17-18% of people smoke in the state which is below the national average..

So if over 80% of the population doesn't smoke, I don't see why people complain that they make the smokers go outside..if the nu.ber was like 30-40% like it was back kn the day then I can see people complaining but not now.

And ive never heard of that beer y'all are talking about..imma have to look into it. I hate buying craft beers with out a recommendation cause generally that are so expensive and I'm not trying to spend 8-9$ for a sixpack that I end up hating

Chinky, if you are a fan of craft beer you will enjoy Three Floyds. It is well known all over the country, but not widely released. We are lucky to live near such a great brewery. If you can think of a certain type of beer that you like (India Pale Ale, Pal Ale, Scottish Ale, etc.), see if Three Floyds has one and buy a 6 pack.

Also, I am reppin 317 and have no shame in where I come from/reside. I have nothing against Chicago or Ohio so please don't drag me into that debate. People generalizing a state with something like "smelling like farm animal poop" is pretty ridiculous. I've seen fucked up shit in tons of states, it is just more common in some states.

Also, I haven't had issues with buying alcohol on Sunday since I was legally old enough to drink. In Indiana many breweries/brewpubs have Sunday growler fills. If you enjoy good beer this is a great option. If you enjoy liquor and don't have enough around to keep you straight on a Sunday you aren't doing it right.

Chinky, DEFINITELY try some Three Floyd's. Even if it's just on tap at a bar and/or not one of their more special styles. I can honestly say that I've never had a beer from Three Floyd's that I didn't like. It deserves about 90% of the hype it gets in my opinion. It's better if you can buy it at the Brewpub or close to that area of NW Indiana because it usually costs a little less there than in the surrounding states.

And KingFlyy, I was just messin' on the animal poop comment. Before my brother moved to the Chi, he lived between Ft. Wayne and South Bend so I know there's more to Indy than that.

Fuuuck yeah with the 317. I don't get all the hate in this thread either, though. Chicago is the fucking shit (thank God it's so close, you gotta hit the big city every now and then, and Indy, while fun, just doesn't cut it.), and Indy in general has gotten way better in regards to having shit to do in the past decade or so. Bloomington is a fun city for drug addicts (lots of really good music). SO MUCH good weed around here lately. Had a buddy come in from Cali and said that what we've got is better than some of the dispensaries out there. Great hash oil, fantastic strains... haven't ever seen the weed scene this good out here, in the 10 years plus that I've been smoking.

Decent amount of scrip pills and shit, but from what I could tell, the dope scene seemed wack as hell. No biggie though, plenty of dillies and opanas and all that shit, not too outrageous on the price if you know where to look (all sorts of old ass farm fucks that sell that shit way less than they could). Like most places, it has its ups and downs, but I'm not ashamed to say I was raised here and no matter where I go I'll always think kindly of the surprisingly nice and open minded rednecks from around where I grew up. Plus, I guess if you like meth, that shit is absolutely all over the place.

That said, I am fucking pumped to come up to Chi town for the North Coast shit coming up. Prob get all faced for the first time in a while, bringing some good rolls and paper and perhaps a bit of molly to compliment them both. Oh, and obviously a shitload of weed. Now I just need a few opiates for the Monday after, because my ass is going to be kicked. Plus haven't had shit in about two weeks, so, definitely hoping for that call any day now (I think it should be tomorrow, fingers crossed haha.) Now if only I can actually practice enough self-control to save a couple for those two weeks haha.

Hoosiers! lived in south bend (gangster as fuck).. Kokomo (white trash hell) and Bloomington.. Indiana University is the shit. Thats why all the east coast rich kids get sent there. Indiana is what you make it; yeah.. you have to fly under the radar a little; but we get the fuck down..
