Kill the rich

Saying you won't adhere to your own morals until they are imposed on everyone else seems a bit silly to me. Lead by example by at least slightly sticking to what you expect of everyone else! All signs point to Buffett just avoiding the 90% tax he is advocating if it ever happens... It's like a slave owner advocating freedom for all slaves, and refusing to even stop calling them the N word!

Yes but it's not ironic. He plays the system as he finds it. He has noticed, in the course of that activity, that the system is fucked.

Well excuse my skepticism of the reasons behind such comments when he only comes out with them once he hits 75 and almost 50 billion. As someone with the greatest means in the world to change the apparently broken system, he really doesn't put pen to cheque book to make it happen, does he? He won't even set an example by paying the tax he actually owes under the 'fucked' system!

Talk is cheap! It is so easy to say these things and go for a nice lazy walk through London on a protest. I could say them all day long. But then being the person that I am I would actually have to go and do something meaningful about it - like pay my tax, which I want to avoid. I would suggest that spending your whole life paying little tax, then saying everyone should pay loads of tax when you're almost dead, is having your cake and eating it.

Yeah, he's a hypocrite, but what's the point in attacking one man when it's an entire system that's fucked? Get rid of him, someone else will take his place.

What's ironic is I, a fucking anarcho-communist, am here defending Warren Buffet against you, Tory Boy!

I am not a fan of hypocrisy. The point of attacking him is to erode the respect people have for him which is based on him saying these things. He can still be in his position and not be a hypocrite. Even if I don't agree with someone's moral position, I respect them when they stick to it. If it weren't for people sticking to what they believe then the world would never have progressed. People have died for their beliefs and he can't even open his gigantic wallet. I do respect his business history, I just think he should put up or shut up. I am sick to the back teeth of people thinking just speaking out is enough and counts as their contribution to humanity.

I go back to what I said before, get rid of him and someone will take his place.

The system encourages his behaviour. Change the system. Treat the disease, not the symptom.

I am not advocating getting rid of him. I am advocating him, as a billionaire who advocates higher taxes, just paying the basic rate of tax he currently owes or perhaps a bit more to send a pretty good message. People aren't going to vote to change the system, or actually change the system, without an example. He needs to set an example.

Given that it wouldn't actually hurt him to stick to these morals, you have to question why he says them? If what he wanted was 90% of his money taken away, there is no law saying he can't give it to the government. Which makes me think that he says them so people like him more and see him as a harmless old man. It lets him keep his money whilst steering clear of the public hate from certain quarters toward's the wealthy. It seems to have worked. It's a clever ruse. It's a similar game to the middle class socialists, just on a much larger scale ;)

I don't know. Perhaps the more the system is played, the more it's injustices will become apparent. Maybe he is setting an example. The example is, look what this shitty system allows.

Surely the title of this thread should have been "I'm bored on a saturday night and want to have an internet argument with MSB". Obvious troll thread, surely the best troll would have been to not reply in the first place?

Yeah and maybe George Bush went into Iraq to show us war is wrong.

Well at least you're starting to sound like you can recognise injustice, MSB. Something's worked!

we already did that bit ... it's 'evolved' since then, kinda

I like talking to knock.

Still waiting for your stomach fingering video, MSB, hankies at the ready.

What injustice? I am against progressive tax rates. The only injustice I see here is expecting one group of people to work more of their week for others than others. Everyone should just pay 50%, and the poor should be paid more, which would come out of the rich business owner's pockets. Sorted.

this is getting more homoerotic by the minute

I'm not even remotely complaining, mind

The injustice is money = power. More money = more power = more money. It's like a black hole, a dense mass becoming inevitably denser and massier just by virtue of its density and mass. The only good thing to look forward to is that the system will inevitably collapse.
