Why are drugs illegal?

Correct pedantic cunt. Having an intent to change your consciousness/acquiring means to change said consciousness. If you take illegal drugs, you've committed a crime and, unless you confess, gotten away with it. It's thought crime, not against property or the person.

And, to be fair, point out the often misunderstood thing that taking drugs is not against the law. Possessing them is, but once you've scranned them you're good to go. "What's that officer? Why am I acting so strange? Because I've just ate all my acid & you look like a smurf!"

Well, soldiers on LSD are not practical and the people spiking them may have been harmful types. But that's not society as I understand it. Everywhere else, no more harmful, or less practicable than many things. (unless you're profoundly tongue-in-cheek, Sunday Raver)
 
That is the problem: The Drugs are very dangerous! So Why are Cigarettes & Alcohol still Legal, knowing how much harm they cause?
Could it be to do with Money made from the Sales?
What about the money taken when Pushers are arested, what happens to that?

They tried outlawing it in 1920, it didn't go well so that's why it's still legal. Search: prohibition
 
I know this is about the most biased place to ask for such opinions and I try to remain unbiased but fuck me, I can't but agree with everybody else.

There's absolutely no reason for drugs to be illegal, no reason at all.

The government are just a load of loopy wankers determined to rid the world of any for of enjoyment. Cunts!
 
Could it be as simple as years of indoctrination has led a massive portion of voters to believe "all drugs are bad - but nicotine and alcohol are ok because its our culture ya'll"? Leading top government bodies keeping it that way?
 
Political reasons initially and then after years of intense propaganda the media have the whiphand over gutless politicians.

I think the mephedrone case was absolutely typical - someone dies after taking methadone, New labour sees a vote-winner before the election, and bans mephedrone.

Basically yes. Black people <3 drugs. White people run the game. Whitey doesn't want blacky to have things blacky likes (especially not his daughter).

But... not all whites are racist. Some (us) have started to like drugs too. Eventually the game will change. Chinaman will be running things soon and he doesn't like either of us much. Specially not since we dropped that Opium War on his arse back in 18-something.

Largely. At least originally. Not so much the case with more recent drugs but all the early prohibition laws stem from American racism being so rabid they had to export it to the rest of the world to make it look legit.

Other than that, it's just that it makes for a handy scapegoat to blame societal problems on which are actually due to other factors.

Oh, and stupidity too.

And ignorance.
