songs you feel in your bones

For me it's about more than lyrics when it comes to how deeply a song hits me. Sometimes the lyrics are absolute gibberish (see: Radiohead) but other elements transcend to make it a classic.

Mine:

Too Afraid to Love You--The Black Keys
Dear God--XTC
They Don't Give a Fuck About Us--2Pac
Runnin'--The Pharcyde
Criminal--The Roots
If I Was President--Wyclef
Crossroad (Original)--Bone thugs-n-harmony
Only Fear of Death--2Pac
(W)as My Girl--Maxwell

Plenty more, but can't remember @ the moment.

"What It's Like" by Everlast

We've all seen the man at the liquor store beggin' for your change
The hair on his face is dirty, dreadlocked and full of mange
He ask the man for what he could spare with shame in his eyes
Get a job you fuckin' slob is all he replies

God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues
Then you really might know what it's like [x4]

Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom who said he was in love
He said don't worry about a thing baby doll, I'm the man you've been dreamin' of
But three months later he said he won't date her or return her calls
And she sweared god damn if I find that man I'm cuttin' off his balls
And then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walkin' through the doors
They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner, and they call her a whore

God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose
Then you really might know what it's like [x4]

I've seen a rich man beg
I've seen a good man sin
I've seen a tough man cry
I've seen a loser win
And a sad man grin
I heard an honest man lie
I've seen the good side of bad
And the down side of up
And everything between
I licked the silver spoon
Drank from the golden cup
Smoked the finest green
I stroked the fattest dimes at least a couple of times
Before I broke their heart
You know where it ends
Yo, it usually depends on where you start

I knew this kid named Max
He used to get fat stacks out on the corner with drugs
He liked to hang out late at night
Liked to get shit faced
And keep pace with thugs
Until late one night there was a big gun fight
Max lost his head
He pulled out his chrome .45
Talked some shit
And wound up dead
Now his wife and his kids are caught in the midst of all of his pain
You know it crumbles that way
At least that's what they say when you play the game

God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to lose
Then you really might know what it's like [x3]

To have to lose...

Depeche Mode - I Feel You

Pixies - Caribou

Mystify- INXS

The Cure - Burn(just cause of the song not the movie)

Nirvana - You Know Your Right

Yes.....mad props on the Nirvana link. I was going to pick You Know Your Right but went with Something in the Way. Good to see another fan still out there.

^^ it never gets old to hear you've lost, unfortunately, keep growin skin but it never gets thick, goddamnit!!! fuck it! *Hugz*

^Not a fan per say *cowers from the thrown objects* but love their music, like what he was about too(not necessarily the addict part but just as a personality overall(well if one can believe the potrayal). Was in my heyday around the NirvanaMania and a bit turned off with the commodification of the band at the time, really only paid attention to them after the hype had gone(hate hype...icky pooh etc!). Anyhoo...

Something in the way is a stunning tune...remember many a time in it's company, bringing me comfort, as im sure it did you also TOS. <3

Brings me in mind of this one (saved me from many a bad time , was a friend when none were available):Steal My Body Home - Beck...Saviour

Blacklisted - Wish

This song gives me chills every time I listen to it, I love it.

If I was ever anything at all,
it's all breaking news to me
Breaking down in a rage
just to apologize
It's really so strange
watching all these strangers sigh
If feels like I'm living
through my last days every day
On your strongest of days
you couldn't make me feel any less insane
Wish the ongoing theme about me
wasn't "he's just crazy"
Wish I knew safety
Wish nothing phased me
Wish I felt more than just feelings of unrest
Wish the darkness didn't cloud me
Wish I wasn't an emotional wreck

Mike Rowland - Silver Wings 1.

I almost want to cry every time I listen to it; it's so beautiful. It's the sounds I hear when watching the ocean, or enjoying the calm wind on sunny days or the way I feel when looking deeply into another set of eyes.

Some songs see us sailing away
Navigating foreign borders
And climbing the waves
Someday your secret will be revealed
Am I the one you're thinking of
When the sun goes down into the water?

We're struck by the still of the moon
Hanging up there in the sky as though a balloon
Anchored by an astronaut's patriot tune
We will buy a ship and fly
To the land that would be rediscovered

We'll design a clever disguise
Or retreat to the bottom of the sea
We were destined to live out our lives
Underwater you and me

We'll escape beneath a violet sky
Clouds come
And night falls
You seem different
Oh my my!

Upon an endless trail of moonlight
They'll never realize that we have gone
We have dropped right out of
Out of sight

We'll design a clever disguise
Or retreat to the bottom of the sea
We were destined to live out our lives
Underwater you and me

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - UnderWater(You & Me)
i cant stand it!
there is nothing i can say in short - i guess i am always finding songs that tie for first as fav's;-) its fun that way... but this is just so out-standing to me, listening i know i could write several damn books under-these-terms and theories... playing a musical instrument i almost always make up what i am playing as i play,,, lyrics though i cant seem to pull off sensibly.haha

it seems to touch on a couple of my favorite quotes, life circumstances, belief system in many fundamental ways, and just the mind state in general and especially so with the music... like a deep-ish/time to do it/V-ictory marching band of wonder-funk...

what else could you want?!;-)its perfect when down:-\and maybe especially better when up:-Dpound on the ground and keep moving-keep moving-keep on***

Atmosphere's songs all have tons of meaning to me. Although a lot of times you need to actually read the lyrics to even know what he is talking about.

Atmosphere-Yesterday
I thought I saw you yesterday
But I didn't stop cause you was walking the opposite way
I guess I could have shouted out your name
But even if it was you I don't what I would say
We can sit and reminisce about the old school
Maybe share a cigarette because we both fools
Chop it up and compare perspectives
Life, Love, Stress, and Set backs
Yes
You could tell me how hard you had it
And you could show me all the scars to back it
And we can analyze each complaint
Break it down and explain these mistakes I make
I like to tangle up the strings of the puppetry
But you knew me back when I was a younger me
You've seen Sean in all types of light
And I've been meaning to ask you if I'm doing alright

(Chorus)
Yesterday, was that you?
Looked just like you
Strange things my imagination might do
Take a breath, reflect on what we've been through
Or am I just going crazy cause I miss you?

Yesterday, was that you?
Looked just like you
Strange things my imagination might do
Take a breath, reflect on what we've been through
Or am I just going crazy cause I miss you?

I'm Shook
I know
I pushed when I should have pulled
Took it all back if I could, I put that on my soul
And I would make a top notch good listener
If you could block off a little time out to give it here
Since we went our separate paths
I've hit a couple of snags
That remind me of the past
I cant front I'm having a blast
But damned if I ain't afraid of how long its gonna last
Sitting here wishing we could kick it
Give me your opinions I do miss the criticisms
I didn't mean to be distant
Make a visit
I'll wait up and keep the coffee brewing in the kitchen

[ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/yesterday-lyrics-atmosphere.html ]

But who am I jokin' with?
Theres no way that you and I will ever get to re-open it

It doesn't matter this is more than love
And maybe if I'm lucky, get to see you out the corner of yesterday

was that you?
Looked just like you
Strange things my imagination might do
Take a breath, reflect on what we've been through
Or am I just going crazy cause I miss you?

Yesterday was that you?
Looked just like you
Strange things my imagination might do
Take a breath, reflect on what we've been through
Or am I just going crazy cause I miss you.

And when you left I didn't see it coming
I guess I slept it ain't like you was running
You crept out the front door slow
And I was so self-absorbed I didn't even know
And by the the time I looked up, it was booked up
You put it all behind you, the bad and the good stuff
A whole house full of dreams and steps
I think you'd be impressed with the pieces I kept
You disappeared but the history is still here
Thats why I try not to cry over spilt beer
I can't even get mad that your gone
Leaving me was probably the best thing you ever taught me
I'm sorry, it's official
I was a fistful
I didn't keep it simple
Chip on the shoulder, anger in my veins
Had so much hatred now it brings me shame
Never thought about the world with out you
And I promise that I'll never say another bad word about you
I thought I saw you yesterday,
But I know it wasn't you, cause you passed away dad

Looked just like you
Strange things my imagination might do
Take a breath reflect on what we've been through
Or am I just going crazy cause I miss you?

I just had to chime in this thread because of the expression 'feel in your bones'. Feel it in my bones is one of my favourite expressions but I so underuse it :(

anyway - rise against - swing life away :) love that song so much....
