I apologize if this is not the correct area for this post.
Here is the story: I live in New York City. It is legal to go to any pharmacy and buy insulin syringes with no prescription or anything, all you need to have is an ID to verify age. I have never had a problem buying syringes at any pharmacy ever, except from this one pharmacist.
Every time I go to this pharmacy (CVS) and this one particular pharmacist is working, he will NEVER sell me any syringes. He always has the same excuse: "We are all out of the information pamphlets so I cannot sell you any syringes."
Story on the Pamphlet: Now at the pharmacies out here in nyc, sometimes when you buy syringes, they will give you this little pamphlet about safe injection practices; cleaning the needles, disposal, cleaning the injection site, etc.
I have purchased syringes countless times from various pharmacies without getting this pamphlet. I even asked one pharmacist if they were required to give them out. She did not seem to be sure, but she had none, and said that it really wasn't necessary because most people know what they are doing if they are buying syringes without a prescription. The first time I even heard about this pamphlet thing is from this one pharmacist that will not sell them to me.
I find it hard to believe that every time he is working, there are no more pamphlets. He is also rude and gives me a bit of an attitude. I even asked him if he could sell me the syringes if I gave him one of the pamphlets that I had from a previous purchase. He said, "No, I have to dispense the pamphlet."
My Question: Does anyone know if Pharmacies in New York City are legally required to give you this pamphlet when selling you insulin syringes?
Is this particular pharmacist just a real tight–ass, rude, stickler for the rules type of guy, or is he lying to me and making it personal?
Since he is the only pharmacist who has ever given me a problem, and consistently gives me a problem, I am inclined to think that he's lying and just screwing with me because he thinks I'm some horrible junkie dope fiend.
Thoughts? Ideas? Legal Knowledge? Comments? All would be appreciated, thank you all so much in advance! You Bluelighters are really great.
