1. Psilocybe caerulipes: Found from late June-Early December on decomposing logs & debris of hardwood trees (mainly Birch and Maple). The cap is 1-3.5cm w/ crowded gills that range in color from light brown- darker brown. Spores are dark purple brown. Found from Maine to North Carolina.
2. Gymnopilus junonius: Found on East coast & European countries. Found on tree stumps, logs, tree bases, or decomposing wood. The cap ranges from 7-20cm across & is found to be orange/brown w/ a dry scaly surface. Spore print is rusty orange.
3. Gymnopilus luteofolius: Cap ranges from 3-8cm & is reddish orange-brown w/ a dry scaly surface. Flesh is yellow w/ crowded gills yellow-orange. Rusty orange spore print found in dense clusters on dead hardwoods and conifers.
4. Panaeolus cinctulus: Most common (Has been found in all 50 states). Found spring-fall in lawns, strawpiles, compost, & dung. Grows after rain. Grow in large numbers on manure compost. The cap is 1.5-5.5 appx. w/ error +&- .5. Cap is dark red-brown when moist & cream-white when dried. Close gills with white edges.
5. Psilocybe cubensis (Boomers/Gold Caps): Found from February to November. Found on dung, rich pasture soil, or straw. 2-8cm cap; reddish-brown when young & golden brown as matures. White flesh that bruises blue. Close gills that are pallid-gray then becomes dark purple-black w/ age. Has a black-violet spore print
6. Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata: April to Mid-June. Cap size 1-4.5cm orange brown- yellow brown. Bruises blue. Gills range from cream-brown-lavender-purple/brown. Spore print is dark purple brown. Found in woody debris near rivers & streams that have a tendency to overflow.
7. Psilocybe semilanceata: Found August through December (main season Oct. & Nov.)Found among grasses, clearings, pastures, meadows, forest edges, woodlands & roadsides (Never found on dung). Cap is appx. 5-25mm with a bell shape. When moist cap is shades of brown and yellow-brown when dried. Gills are narrow and crowded. Bruise blue.
Note: Some mushrooms are harmful and in some cases are fatal. Know what your eating and make sure they're no harmful pesticides used on the land.
