LSD & Vasoconstriction

I'm still trying to figure out how this is possible at all and was wondering if anyone else ever experienced anything remotely like this.

Me and a few friends were rather drunk. Errr, I was drunk off my ass. We got our hands on some known legit blotter. The pink elephant's from Disney's Dumbo. I even looked them up later on the LSD identification thread on http://shroomery.org and everyone said legit and also that they were pretty good. Anywho, I ate one. I'm not going to give a full trip report but after the peak of my trip ended, I was still tripping rather hard. I look at my hands and all the sudden they start to look very red. I run in the house thinking you know, maybe I'm just tripping the fuck out. It progressively gets worse and worse, veins bulging out. I start to feel really tight all over my body, like my muscles were clenching.

Keep in mind, I was not freaking out at all during this, which was weird. I was surprisingly calm, however I'm just stating this to point that ups/downs in blood pressure or whatever else can't really be pertained to anxiety.

I eventually get my friend to drive me home and I lay in bed feeling like some kind of like snail or something, being like compressed into a shell. Weird ass shit.

Anyway, I kept having problems with my hands constantly turning red, veins randomly bulging out. Other times they would be fine. Smoking cigarettes seemed to make it worse at times. I started looking into raynaud's and other things trying to make sense of this but that didn't quite add up.

It keeps getting better and I have less symptoms everyday, especially since it has gotten warmer outside. I didn't have any symptoms like this until after this experience and I know that LSD can cause vasoconstriction but I have no idea how this kept persisting for months after. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I used to get hand numbness, body aches, and even tunneling of vision and dizziness during the latter stages of high dose LSD trips. The vasoconstriction can be pretty severe. These days I get mostly upper back pain. I assume this was your first time with LSD? I advise looking into the mephedrone threads, since there's lots about combating vasoconstriction there. I don't necessarily know if LSD constricts the same vasculature as mephedrone, though. As I recall people reported some success using L-arginine, taurine and erectile dysfunction medication, but again vasodilator drugs tend to also act as vasoconstrictors in certain isolated spots in the body, and I don't know of any obvious way to figure out if LSD and these drugs might both cause vasoconstriction at these same isolated sites, possibly worsening the problems (the info may be in journal articles though). I've personally had luck with using low doses of these drugs, YMMV. Alcohol doesn't seem to help; it's chiefly because it's a vasodialator at the surface of the skin rather than in muscle tissues like where you need in to be. It also helps to move around and do stretches before and during the trip, and to make sure you maintain good posture or support your body weight well during it. Also, make sure you don't take other vasoconstricting drugs like amphetamines during the trip. Your symptoms are severe enough that you should probably avoid LSD all together. I've also read that mescaline is a stronger vasoconstrictor than LSD or mushrooms as measured by the contraction of lengths of animal umbilical chords, so you should avoid that, too. There's also a small chance that you got bromodragonfly, though the fact that you friends didn't have negative reactions is telling. Having a certain print means nothing because there's sites where people can get high resolution image files of blotters and print off counterfeit sheets...

I'm very experienced with LSD and most drugs altogether and know my way around research chems, 2c-X, doX, whatever. I used to eat a lot of LSD back in the day when I was younger. I hadn't had it in about a year before this experience. What a way to bring back the golden moments.

This was genuine LSD though. For sure. Kicked in within 30minutes and I know my acid. I know a lot of people don't know their shit, but trust me, I do. /wink

No one else had any negative effects at all and over 10 of us ate off the same sheet.
I have no problems with any type of amphetamines or MDXX.

I agree alcohol does not help. What I'm confused about though is how would these effects last for many months after? I had no symptoms until after this trip. Does this make sense, I guess, is what I am asking. Months??

LSD and psilocin both prevent cluster headaches from returning for months in many sufferers, and it's thought to be because of their vasoconstricting effects. It's strange because both drugs are fully metabolized long before a month has past, but they presumably set off some vasoconstricting process centrally that takes months to run its course.

That makes a little more sense.

I actually wasn't aware that LSD prevented cluster headaches. I knew about mushrooms. I actually ate some mushrooms this past weekend and had no problems.

I've always used an aspirin or two to counteract vasoconstriction symptoms. It seemed to work well with mephedrone. I can't reccomend it tho because I have no idea how safe this actually is. I can only say it has worked very well in my own experience.

I tried taking aspirin when I got home as well as many times for the next couple months. Didn't seem to do much.

I used to love taking acid though and would love it if someone had these same problems and maybe found a way to be able to keep taking it. I miss it =-/

I've read of people using yohimbe to combat vasoconstriction with lsa containing seeds. I've also read of people successfully using raw cocao 25x-50x extracts to the same ends. The cacao gives me headaches, but others swear by it. Just some more stuff for you to look up if you want...

I did a google search and someone recommended nicotinic acid. I'd read the following wikipedia article and plan some experiments using which ever ones you find out work to dilate vasculature in problem muscle tissue areas. Again, I don't know about the safety of using these drugs in combination with LSD ... and again, I've noted some success with erectile dysfunction drugs like cialis, but it could just be placebo and my symptoms are nowhere near as severe as yours.

EDIT: You might also have better luck bouncing this question off people in Advanced Drug Discussion.

There is a thread on combating the vasoconstriction caused by mephedrone in ADD if you have a looksee but I believe general consensus was that it could cause more problems than it may solve (something to do with blood pressure?) but probably worth a read through even though LSD is obviously very different to meph. I also use an aspirin or two when using certain drugs that cause uncomfortable vasoconstriction in me (generally certain RC stims in my case) and it's always done the trick for me... but I see it hasn't for you. Probably worth checking that ADD thread out though as there may well be some safer options suggested.

Thanks for the information. I'll look all of this up and definitely take a look at that thread. I'm just not sure if I even wanna risk having this happen again haha.

A couple of days ago I took a 500u red dot and for the first time I thing I experienced vasodilation in a pretty big way. My neck, but not my throat swelled like crazy. It was very uncomfortable for most of the come down (around 8 hours.) With my hand, I could feel how large my arteries had gotten. I also felt what I thought felt like vasoconstriction within my pectoral muscles. They felt somehow empty and also felt very uncomfortable. The only time I've ever experienced that feeling in my chest was on 50m of 4aces and that ending up being a full ego death breakthrough trip. I'm curious if these effects have affected anyone else with a dose of Lucy around 500u? That's, personally, the highest dose I've done. The trip was great. Very enlightening and beautiful, only overwhelming for a slight period, but very uncomfortable half of the time. Oh, also, I took it at about 1am after catching a pretty good buzz after work. Was also wondering if the alcohol before could have made it happen?

Could vasoconstriction be the reason I almost always get quite severe headaches at the front of my head?

The current theory of migraine is that alteration in neural activity (cortical spreading depression, essentially a spreading wave of excitability) leads to release of vasodilatory substances from trigeminal ganglia near the jaw that then dilates the cerebral vasculature and causes pain, so therein is a difference between drugs that will have a direct vasoconstrictive effect vs. drugs that can cause a change in the neural activity that can lead to release of vasodilatory substances from trigeminal ganglia.

LSD could be treating cluster headaches by an indirect mechanism (ie, its not binding directly to 5-HT2A receptors located on arteries and mediating vasoconstriction therein). It could be smoothing out some of the neural abnormalities (hypothalamus) seen in cluster headaches.

But vasoconstriction like OP experienced could be a consequence of hormones released by the alteration in neural activity, and also a direct effect of LSD on the vasculature. You may be able to block the direct effect with a 5-HT2 antagonist that doesn't cross the BBB, but I'm not sure if there is one.

I don't think its known whether or not Sarpogrelate crosses the BBB, but if it doesn't, sarpogrelate could be a potential treatment for vasoconstriction due to aterial 5-HT2A activation

^^^Interesting suggestion, thank you!
