Macro Photography

Probably not, but the short DOF is used to good effect. It's something that
used a lot in his portraiture (although it's tough to see on the images in the link).

If you do have a DLSR, you can always flip the lens around, hold it up to the lens mount (carefully), and have your macro shot magnified by a large large amount. The only negative is the extremely shallow DOF.
Correct, however using a reversal ring is quite beneficial... holding your lens against the camera while focusing is a chore.

The main downsides however are:
- Unable to use auto-focus
- Must set aperture size on lens (if you can't set the aperture on your lens and are required to use the controls on the camera, you can't do reverse macro)
- Metering is difficult
- On some cameras the shutter will not release if no lens is detected, and in a lens reversal situation, the CPU contacts are facing the front of the camera, therefore no lens is detected... good news is you can use the Manual mode to overcome this on most dSLRs.

To point it out again, if you want to achieve any amount of success, a reversal ring is a must for this technique. They're dirt cheap, just make sure to get one with the right mount for your camera and the right thread size for the front of the lens (52mm on my 50mm f/1.8)

I love this shot!

Never "HAVE TO" change lenses?!

You say that like changing lenses is some sort of chore. 8( I can swap a lens, with both end caps, in less than 5 seconds. Oh the horror.

I snap many types of shot's ... I don't want to have to carry extra lenses. I

It's not just the swapping that sucks... it's also lugging the shit around too.

I do alot of traveling so small and compact is key.

My SR camera is a dream! it does Macro, Super Macro, Landscape etc with the same lense ... amazing!

Cool photos Seventeen and 8ft! I love spiders :)

Seventeen, so many babies!! Look at them all! What a good mum =D

Yeah wolf spiders incubate their young on their backs... looks weird as anything with the naked eye; like it's got warts or spines or something.

That thing crawled straight into the bed we were sitting on :D

Likewise 8ft, wicked photos. The first one is crazy - are they venomous?

EDIT: might as well post some more macros
