1) Does it come directly from natural sources? Is it a plant? Is it organic?
2) Does it have a long history of human usage? Has it been scientifically studied?
3) Does its history of human usage and scientific study show that it is relatively safe and non-toxic?
4) Has it been proven to be an effective psychoactive?
5) Has it been used by Westerns (Americans, Europeans, etc.)?

Nice, thanks for this. :) It would nice to also at some point provide short descriptions of the effects of each, or link to sources for this information.

Nice one T.
Looks like you spent a good amount of time on producing this list....which has now become my TO-DO list!! :)(-:

nice list OP, but Amanita Muscaria is not fully safe.

if not prepared in the right way it can be poisonous!

I guess I should just put "Trichocereus species".

Looks like you spent a good amount of time on producing this list....which has now become my TO-DO list!! :)(-:

I've spend years working on this list... this is the latest version.

This list basically covers every single psychoactive plant-drug worth ingesting (except some dangerous ones like Datura and such, which I considered unsafe).

nice list OP, but Amanita Muscaria is not fully safe.

I partially agree, but I feel it is so historically and culturally important on such a vast scale that not including it would be an ethnobotanical injustice!

Iboga can also be dangerous, but again, it's so powerful and healing, how could I not include it?

That is what my book is on... so no, you only get species names here... you will have to buy the book :)

^true about the injustice, but maybe we should work on this list together and expand it into a sticky? (mods?)

like, we could have the effects profile for each, along with how to prepare each for ingestion (safe).

and whens the book out and can i get it on amazon? (fitting place for it considering the name of the website and that a lot of these species are found
in the amazon)

Or at least a community project if not a sticky (as we have a lot of stickies). I like the idea. Let's see for now how many people we can get posting their experiences/summaries of whatever plants they've tried (or new ones if you think some should be added). While Bluelight and PD do not and should not focus exclusively on plant entheogens, the plants certainly should be just as represented as anything else. We're a place to gather information. :)

So if you have things to say about any of these plants, please do post and contribute. :)

Maybe not a sticky but how about a link on the first page of the B+D Ethnobotanical thread, or a spot in the PD index?

Not for awhile.

I suggest you obtain Snu Voogelbreinder's "Garden of Eden", or Ott's "Pharmacopeia" or Christian Rätsch's "Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Plants".

Snu Voogelbreinder's book is the most up to date.

Just google "snu garden of eden" for more info

^Thanks for the list, Teotzlcoatl. I only have experience with the common ones from the list but I'll recount the effects of amanita muscaria because it's kind of funny.

I ate 5 grams with a friend, and after 3 hours we still weren't feeling anything, so we ate another 5 grams each. Of course I started feeling the first 5 grams a few minutes after finishing the second. It felt pretty good for the most part, then turned sort of neutral when I started getting delirious. We had rented "Three Kings" on VHS -- this was a while back -- and I put the tape in the VCR. I returned to the couch and looked at the remote confused. I asked my friend where the tape went, and he told me I had just put it in the VCR. I looked at the remote and felt confused again. I ended up asking him four more times whether I had put the tape in because I had a serious case of anterograde amnesia. I also commented that on any other drug if I felt as fucked up as I did on amanita muscaria I'd be scared, but that I felt fairly non-nonchalant despite it. I remember pacing back and forth in my parent's basement later alone because I felt so blown that I thought I'd fall unconscious if I sat down.

My friend never felt any effects while I was with him, but the next day he commented that he remembered walking into his room and seeing the time on the clock after he got back to his parent's house, and the next memory he had was of waking up.

Sage (salvia officinalis).

There's some reports on erowid, and I can personally attest to a nice body high from smoking dried sage.

This is probably one of your best post that i have seen....

Most of the rest have just been about your supriority complex about how your better than everyone else for being so natural....

Now, now, to need to instigate anything while it's going nicely. (I'll delete this post in 10 minutes if you delete yours).

Delete my post? Huh... um... hell no? What are you talking about?

Most of the rest have just been about your supriority complex about how your better than everyone else for being so natural....

I am superior.

BTW you spelled "superiority" wrong.

Sage (salvia officinalis).

I have included and excluded that one over and over again but finally decided to try and pick just 1 plant for each genus in the end (Salvia divinorum was the one I choose).

^By "I'll delete this post in 10 minutes ..." I meant I'd delete my post that says "I'll delete this post in 10 minutes ..." The point being that you were not logged in so if both of us deleted our posts you would never have known he made the "superiority complex" comment and, just maybe, you would continue your helpful and productive posts and refrain from being belligerent. As it turns out, it didn't work out.

I just went to Peru and looked at Coca in it's native culture. In no way shape or form is it damaging, unlike the cocaine which is extracted from it.

Opium Poppy was included even tho it is addictive, it is VERY effective :) and consider relatively safe.

^ The amounts of cocaine found in the leaves are minimal when compared to an extracted product. I'm sure the damage potential from eating a kilo of leaves would be on par with ingesting a gram of cocaine.
