Gabapentinoids Gabapentin Megathread

I have taken up to 10,000mgs of gabapentin on a few occasions without having any I'll effects other then drunk style dizziness for up to 24 hours. I'd do like others say and replenish electrolytes and drink plenty of fluids. Maybe hit the hospital just to be safe.

This OD happened a few weeks ago and a did hit the hospital 2 days post dose and they couldn't find anything wrong with me. I just made and appointment with a new primary care doctor for next week so hopefully he can help get to the bottom of the problem or give me a clean bill of health. Thanks to everyone who replied I will update when there is something to share.

I have gone through a horrific host of painful issues since taking gabapentin for seven weeks at 1200mg-2100mg per day. Lots of physical and psychological problems that haven't let up, and were not present in any capacity prior to taking gabapentin. Things like nerve pain, heart palpitations, exercise intolerance, derealization, irrational fears, inability to drive, nonstop hair loss, etc. It's been horrible, and this seven weeks of gabapentin use was in February - March 2015.

Anyway, I've gone to a bunch of doctors and specialists for it. Neurologists, cardiologist, internist, pain management, psychopharmacologist, etc. You name it. I've gone through a bunch of tests (MRI, CT scan, blood work, etc) and none of these tests have shown that anything is wrong with me. I have blurry vision in my right eye and have undergone several eye exams and it has shown no problem.

So, even if you still have lingering issues from your gabapentin use, it likely won't show up on any tests.

I know my user name is Gabazilla lol, but I do have a question. I currently space out my gaba days by 3 days, in other words I take Gaba on a monday, then the next time will be a friday. Can I shorten that to two days in between and still get that good gaba feeling?

Thank for reply ,
also can anyone suggest me what is the safe gabapentin dosage for a good sleep and for how long I can take to avoid addiction ?

Gabapentin is commonly prescribed 600 - 900 for sleep, but is prescribed up to 1200 in insomniacs or in those going through withdrawals. I think gabapentin can be taken safely long term for sleep as long as you are only taken in once a day. It's half life is only around 4-5 hours, so it won't be in your body long enough for it to adjust for dependence to take place.

But to be safe, I'd say 4-6 weeks. Then taper off by 300mgs every couple of nights, just to be safe. :)

Yes, you can. :) What is your dose, if you don't mind me asking?

prescribed 2700mg of Neurontin and 300mg of Lyrica. I enjoy them both. Think i will save the Lyrica for Sunday. I don't take it every day for the simple fact that I dont want to get a huge tolerance. Thankfully I have insurance and so I only pay about 10 bucks for both scripts combined

Been pushing it a bit much the past few days. I've been using heroin intermittently all Summer and weathering dry spells with neurontin 300s. Came down with a brutal flu/cold sorta thing 4 days ago, had no money and no prospects and nothing but a bunch of neurontin and weed. Dosed like 4500mg two days in a row spread out throughout the day. Got a decent buzz the first night and second afternoon. Hitting the brakes a bit today, gonna try and taper back down.

Problem is I've somehow convinced myself that I need at least 600mg when I wake up every morning, otherwise I'll feel like dog shit. I don't even know how much of this is mental, but I had no problem stopping abruptly back in early July when I used tianeptine for a few weeks...

iv heard some mixed feed back about gabapentin.i tried 1000mgs with 10mgs of vailum once and I honestly didn't notice much more than a floaty feeling

you have to space out your dosages of gabapentin. Take 150 to 300 mg every 45 min. Otherwise you are wasting it

you are indeed correct. I took my gaba on Thursday and put two days in between and took it again today(sunday) and I feel great. Of note though, I didn't take my Lyrica on Thursday, just the gabapentin...today I took Lyrica with my Gaba and I feel wonderful

I've been taking neurontin sporadically for a year now, generally to satiate heroin withdrawal but also under the "hope" of recreational effects, although they don't happen every time. I've begun to stagger my dosage because I was popping up to 4-5g at a time and it just wasn't feasible anymore.

So I've notice that three things happen when I dose neurontin. Note that no matter what, it completely alleviates physical withdrawal. The only thing that remains is the fatigue, and neurontin can make that worse at times. Anyway, 1. I get the recreational effects. The drunk/staggering that is amplified by marijuana. Sometimes I get CEVs. This only seems to happen after a break in the dosing, naturally. 2. I get sort of high, but I get extremely jittery almost like I'm about to have a seizure. I've dropped and broken dishes before because of this. It's like my arms just jerk like myoclonus or something. I've never gotten a straight answer as to why this happens. 3. I get no recreational effects at all, only relief from WD symptoms. Upping the dose does nothing but cause fatigue at this juncture.

That's my experience, hope this helps. And does anyone else get the jittering?

One time I got a myoclonus jerk so hard from gabapentin. I was laying on a blow up mattress, I jerked so hard I flipped the thing over with me on it.

I too would like to know the cause of these jerking movements... Sometimes I get them quite violently. Anyone know?

My symptoms sound less serious then yours thankfully. I am pretty sure that my kidneys are ok but I can't explain the joint pain in my ankles and wrists. I have a doctor appointment tommorow when I get the test results back I'll update this thread.

How dgoes gabapentin's half-life play into withdrawal? You'd think with such a short half life it would be intense but short, however people complain of issues for weeks.

I used sporadically over the Summer to allay opiate withdrawal, although I tried rec doses a few times. If I can go 24 hours without withdrawal, does that mean I should be in the clear? Because I only took 300mg yesterday morning and I don't feel sick, at least not yet.

How long have you been taking it every day? When I was hooked on it, WD took about a day or 2 to set in.

I had no idea of the benefits of Gabapentin until I was prescribed it a couple of months ago for nerve pain. I'm already on Oxy, but that doesn't seem to help the pain from nerve damage in my right leg (I've had 3 hip surgeries, 2 of which were replacements). Anyway, Gaba doesn't mess me up the way a high dose of Oxy does, but it definitely helps! I do find it works best if I take a week or so off every month so my tolerance can drop, but I've never noticed any w/d, and I usually take up to 1800mg/day. I do like the mellowing side effects, I must say. I know everyone responds differently, this is just my experience. I can say that the nerve pain is much more noticeable without it!

I don't have gabapentin experience but I do have almost 3 years of daily pregabalin. Lyrica is said to have a half life of 6 hours which I don't think is correct but either way the w/d is painful and can last for months. If you haven't been using it daily for at least a few weeks I wouldn't think that you would have any withdrawal other than maybe an increase in anxiety for a few days.

When I was hooked on gabapentin, and I got WD symptoms, I noticed the most noticeable ones were: sweating, SPACINESS, confusion, nausea, and anxiety/panic attacks, and nightmares when sleeping. It didn't last very long though, and went away within several days, but the anxiety/panic attacks stuck around for quite a while until I got my script refilled.

I am now very careful with them, I only take them as needed, and sometimes don't take any for several days at a time. And those days I don't take any I don't notice any WD symptoms.

I've had withdraws from gabapentin and lyrica. I went through depression a few days from each drug. I like them both for my neuropathy but running out of them sucks. Gabapentin is a little rough on my stomach but it works great on nerve pain. A good dose of lyrica makes me want to fuck. :)
