This is part of a documentary called "Secrets of Sleep". It's a story about a man who has a rare gene which causes a condition known as Fatal familial insomnia.

From Wikipedia: Fatal familial insomnia (FFI) is a very rare autosomal dominant inherited prion disease of the brain. The dominant gene responsible has been found in just 50 families worldwide; if only one parent has the gene, the offspring have a 50% chance of inheriting it and developing the disease. The disease's genesis and the patient's progression into complete sleeplessness is untreatable, and ultimately fatal.

The man in this documentary one day just couldn't fall asleep, after 6 months awake he died..

Interesting watch:)

How unfortunate, only 8 cases ever known to be reported in the world.
That would be frustrating never to be able to sleep.

That would totally suck. I had chronic insomnia since childhood until acupuncture cured it in 2 weeks.

Kinda gives the lie to that scene in Fight Club where the doctor assures "Jack" that "No, you cannot die from insomnia."
