Sexual Side effects of suboxone/Klonopin

I think 24mg a day is a little overprescribing if you ask me, it is extremely easy to cut down to 2-4mg per day, the hardest part of kickin sub is the last mg, so cut your dose, it is way easier than you may think. Also if you just switched you have to wait a week until you are stabalized, the initial fuckedupness you feel from starting bupe would kill a sex drive for a time period.

I also have half a mind to talk to my doc about naloxone and impotence.
I am a straight male too now that everybody seems to be adding their sexual preference at the end of posts in this thread lol

Wat Suboxone blocks your Dopamine receptors??? Um I don't think this is at all accurate.

Also, anyone who has transitioned from anything like 55 mg's of Methadone definitely did need to be prescribed the 24 mg's per day to start out with. People who transitioned from shorter acting opiates/opioids would prob. need much less to become comfortable but for some reason that methadone is always a nasty addiction to tack. I would prob. say that the methadone is still having an effect on your libido/testosterone levels. Obv. like you are already doing lowering the dose to 8 mg's and even down to 4 mg's should be fairly easy.

GL!

I can't say I have any problems with erection on 4 mg's sub + klonopin for sleep. Oh and I'm a straight male for comparison

Well for one the worst junkie in the world wouldn't need 24 mg's of suboxone. Bupe is one of the strongest opiates on the market, 80 times stronger than Methadone and 40 times stronger than morphine. Taking that much of ANY opiate is going to destroy your ability to maintain an erection.

Look how strong bupe is compared to other opiates

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opioid_comparison

lower your dose to 2 or 4mg. I've switched from 100mg methadone a day and only needed 4mg suboxone a day to maintain.

^comparison between full and partial agonist isn't linear such as comparisons between 2 full agonists.

This site explains why very concisely...

Opiate agonists like oxycodone, morphine, or heroin will have an increasing opiate effect as the dose is increased. A graph of dose vs effect for agonists yield a straight [diagonal] line.

This is not the case with Suboxone. With Suboxone the line would start out diagonal but then level off and become horizontal, as increasing doses would not increase the opiate effect. Again, this is the basis for the use of Suboxone for opiate addiction treatment. The horizontal portion of the curve would have an opiate effect equal to 30 mg of methadone, meaning that a person taking Suboxone would not be able to get a greater effect from Suboxone or other forms of buprenorphine. For most people, if Suboxone is taken correctly the flat part of the response occurs at about 2-4 mg of the drug.

The ceiling effect is also the reason for precipitated withdrawal; if a person is taking an opiate agonist at a dose and effect greater than 30 mg of methadone, taking Suboxone will force the opiate effect lower, causing withdrawal symptoms.(source)

Buprenorphine is VERY potent and the above explains why people rarely ever need large doses at all, but that's not due to its potency, its due to larger does not being any more potent than small ones.

Mates, i do 0.5mg subutex sub with midazolam maybe 1-2 a week sometimes less and i reckoned it increase my sex drive when i'm on rather then off subutex.....

Oh btw i'm a straight male. I should state this for comparison purposes too.

Am i weird or something??

No, I get an increased sex drive from opiates as well. Everyone is unique.

i would say , lower the bupe-dose and stop takin k-pins (at least before the fuckin), i take 12mgs/day of bupe plus every now and then benzos coke and the rest of that bullshit thats out there and fuck just the way my girl and i like it.....but benzos are known to make you "non-Sexual" (sorry for that stupid word but im german) , when i was high dosin xanax or other benzos i could fuck but hardly , very hardly come (which was bad for me , but my girl enjoyed it cause she could come all the time......"bitch"...hahaha). peace out

@theOP: There's not gonna be much you can do besides lower your dose and maybe like drink a little alcohol when you want to copulate (I know, sounds counter-productive but works for me at around 3 drinks or so...)(be careful mixing these 3 CNS depressants, obviously). The Suboxone is what is causing this from what you describe, and this is a side effect of Suboxone that I really despise, this slaughtering of the libido.

My advice- Take your doses early in the morning, then have sex the next morning before taking your dose so that you have the lowest level of Suboxone in your body. If you snort the Sub to decrease the duration slightly (gathered evidence seems to suggest this is in fact the case), then you really will have metabolized quite a bit of the Suboxone in that 24-hr period and you will have even less Sub in you when you have sex. I can even have sex the same night that I dose Sub in the morning (snorted), but it has to be a pretty big gap (like 12 hours at least)...

all i know is when i got off subs i had to bust a nut damn near everyday lol but when on them i never wanted to make the time

hey the benzo is what does it im on smt and i have no probs but get atleast to 8 mg a day hell 4 would do ya good but i dunno i find bupe makes me horny:)

But yes, most if not all opiates cause sexual dysfunction (temporarily of course, unless ur libido is of uncanny persistence;)) I'd say taper down on whatever is causing ur current problem. Less can be just as much via tapering, it might help with the dysfunction (just keep trying HARDER)
Good luck to ya

Any Help Please?

Reading a little bit of this thread I see that some of you have experienced similar problems that I have. Here's my story: Started into H around 17-18, got real bad by 19 (for argument's sake, I'll just say I used ALOT). I weaned myself down on H to about 4 bags a day before I switched to Suboxone. I started at 32mg/day (4x 8mg tablets) and worked my way down, I currently take about 6mg/day.

Unlike many people seem to experience, I don't think I had a decrease in sex drive or arousal ability (as far as I know), and never any problems with ED. My main problem has always been in lasting, not getting it up. I always figured my EXTREMELY fast climax was a result of minor Suboxone withdrawal, so I would always try to take some Sub before sex (ideally half hour to an hour before). This helped some, but I could rarely last 3 min with this technique alone and eventually resorted to a 'self warm up' process (the 2nd climax would usually take 10 min (relatively reasonable), but sometimes still 3 min or less). Before using H (while using I rarely cared to have sex), I had no problem lasting 20-30 min or more.

Now, I have to try to anticipate sex and sneak off for some "alone time" to prepare; and still it had a very poor success rate. Way too embarrassed to admit this to my girlfriend (same one through all of this), I spent the past years trying to live up to the original me she knew before H. Despite my preparation for sex, the majority of the time I still ended up coming 1-3 min into sex (sometimes even during other pre-sex acts) and usually try to pretend it didn’t happen and keep going for awhile (risking losing my erection).

I have had my share of bad outcomes and every single time I feel somewhat guilty, incapable of pleasing her, and it’s a major blow on my manhood. I have always told myself it was the Suboxone and that I would be normal again someday (when I have been weaned off of it awhile). However, lately I feel like this problem has been getting worse (as my Sub dosage continues to decrease) and I am thinking more about my fear that this problem is either not from Suboxone (its just me), or its from Suboxone but I'll never be normal again. I was just wondering if any of you out there have had a similar problem, and if so, could you provide me with any input to these questions:

- Will this problem go away when I am weaned off Suboxone? If so how long will it take?
- Will I ever be completely normal again (like before)?
- In the mean time, until I finish weaning off Sub, is there anything I can do to help with this problem? (vitamins, supplements, Rx's, exercises, etc)

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

Oh man I can't even begin to tell you how much Buprenorphine f's with the sexual desire and ability!

Out of all the opioids I have used(abused) Buprenorphine (Subutex, Suboxone, Buprenotex) has been the worst on that part. I had absolutely No sexdrive. I wasn't interested in women the slightest.

From being a sexual being that loved sex to being a non sexual person that fast is quite scary.
Anyway im on Methadone right now and I have begun to get some of my sexdrive back which feels good! :D

I can get medications like Cialis and Viagra prescribed to me, they began mentioning that to me when I got into the Methadone program but while I was in the Suboxone program (for about 8 months) they didn't say a word about it.

You'll be back to normal for sure. Bupe definitely messes with the sex drive a bit, I've been on and off at least three times and noticed every time that my sex drive skyrocketed right after quitting, eventually settling down to pre-opiate levels. You're right, it is the bupe, and you will be fine. Good luck with the taper.

I went to prison for 13 months but i was on 24 mg of subutex a day for 2 years before i went and had to withdraw cold turkey from it. It might sound weird but when i was in jail on 20 hours lockdown everyday i used to get bored and jack off to help pass the time. I remember the first month at least i was locked up i would bust a nut so fast(like 30 seconds). I was having wet dreams all the time also. Ive noticed in the past withdrawing from heroin i would come very fast also even before sex sometimes.

Before i got locked up though i never felt like having sex really and when i did i would NOT be able to ejaculate usually unless some time had passed since i had done any bupe. My doctor told me that the bupe will reduce your testosterone and that participating in activities like weightlifting and exercise willl raise it back up again.

You will be back to normal if you get clean but it sounds like your on all sorts of diff drugs and i had to be totally clean for a awhile before i felt totally normal again. Its called post acute withdrawal. it can last up to 6 months and some people argue it never goes away.

^Bupe actually doesn't lower testosterone like most opiates... Doctors don't seem to know too much about bupe TBH.

priapism (uncontrollable erections, fast orgasms) is a typical side effect of opiate withdrawal. I have it still after two months' abstinence, having done a pretty quick and severe detox on suboxone. the odd thing is that despite the raging my libido is still largely absent psychologically--if I masturbate it's generally an attempt to help my sleep (which also still sucks).

if your dick isn't performing and you actually want to please your girlfriend, you have other body parts to use (fingers, mouth). more than half of the women I've been with never come from a dick alone anyway, regardless of whose dick it is. use a toy if she's into that; combine it with some clitoral action if she's into that.

and if the addict with low libido is the girlfriend and the it's the boyfriend who doesn't have an addiction, allow me to suggest: blowjobs.

^Yep, mine too... It's not testosterone being lowered though, this has been studied.
