^^Yup she gets walked twice a day and mad attention, and there is a lil thing where you can chain her up so she can run around the yard on a prtty long chain and she spends a decent amount of time out there too, so you could rule out the not enough exercize/attentio deal.

BTW, NO that aint a pic of my dog in the original post. that is just what her face looks like when she bugs out. She is pretty cute, so everyone give her attention, plays with her, she spends alot of time with everyone on the couch, etc. so she aitn neglected or abused, but not spoiled either. that why i say that what is wrong with her is much deeper than what you suggested dude, unfortuantely that would make sense for most cases but in this case i can tell you that aint whats goin on.

She used to attack if more than one person would pet her at the same time, too.

what im sayin is , there seems to be some totally random, bizzarre triggers that make her go apeshit, like a jekyll and hyde type of deal.

She been doing that chewing thing for years now. we took her to the vet too many times to count and there is no parasite, worms, nothing like that, physically she is healthy other than shes overweight. The doctors aint been able to help much actually.

her nails get trimmed like they should and are always at a healthy lenghth but yet she always bites her nails too til they are stubs.

All of this shit is why i call her neurotic. she got some fucked up things in her doggy head it seems.

LOL @ puttin a dog on prozac.....personally i would rather put her down than do that cuz to me thats fuckin ridiculous but to each their own.

she is usually sweet most of the time, i woudl say 90% of the time shes just a normal dog. not one of them dogs whose always vicious or nothing like that. if you never seen her bug out youd think shes the sweetest little thing.

its just that when she freaks out hell breaks loose and i dont want nothing more bad to happen than what already did.

You need to contact a specialist. I'd try going to your local pound or animal shelter and asking them to recommend someone.

There are a lot of things about dog behavior that you won't understand because you're trying to think of it as a person. It could be previous abuse in the dog's life, it could be that you're encouraging this behavior without knowing it. Really though you need to find someone who deals with this stuff regularly because this is a dog that is attacking. If it was just peeing all over your house or something I'd say go ahead and try to solve the problem yourself by reading books or whatever but in this case you need to fix the problem now and you need personalized advice.

If anyone before us had owned her i would think it was some abuse but i wish it was that easy, we got her as a pup. i think talkin to a specialist woul dbe a great idea, thanks. i jsut dont know where to begin. CC i do wish there was a episode of the dog whispererer for this.

Call the dog whisperer, you never know if they might pick you to do a show on. You have a big dog that is attacking. Sounds perfect for them.

Anyway, like I said.. where you should start is local animal shelters. They should know someone who handles stuff like this.

That's too bad that you would rather kill your dog before exploring ALL options. The option you pass over may be the one that works.

Like I said in my previous post. The Prozac DID work on this problem dog.

The odds of you getting "The Dog Whisperer" are slim.

But like you said..."to each their own".

If the dog is actually part border collie, they have an insane amount of energy and can be really destructive in finding ways to deal with getting it all out.

Is she spayed?

I would probably start by taking her to the vet to rule out any medical issues which could be causing her to pull her hair out. They should be able to tell you if it's because of a skin allergy or parasites. It might just be anxiety or boredom, but who knows. You should also tell the vet about her aggressive behavior and see if they have any behavior specialist trainers they can refer you to.

You can always enroll in a basic training class at Petsmart or through a community program. They aren't tailored for issues like you're having, but the socialization your dog will receive should be beneficial, and the instructor can give you more specific things to work on if you ask.

I would be really concerned and come up with a plan quickly if I was you. Sounds pretty dangerous with her attacking children and other pets.

One of these across it's wet nose will sort it out. =D

But seriously though, I couldn't keep a dog that ws unhinged. We used to own a dog that guarded my Mum's handbag & wouldn't even let her near it. Fucking nutter.

When that dog decides to bite/injure/kill some small child in your neighborhood and you get arrested for it, you'll have wished you'd put him down.

Some food for thought.

Youre preachin to the choir homie, it aint my decision, it aint "my" dog, it is "the family pet" or whatever, if it was up to me the bitch woulda been out long ago. If anyone got arrested for it it would be my mom anyways. thats another reason im worried cuz my familys dumb asses (i hate to call em that, but in this case...) dont seem to understand it, or they do get it, but they refuse to admit it or do anything about it, they just say "yea shes such a bad dog....but we could never get rid of you doggy! ohh, i lovejoosomuch!ooohsha good doggy! uh huh! yes! ooohh cute doggy!" liek they can only be mad for 15 minutes then its all good again like nothin ever happened.

Vibby you made a good point that i totally forgot about. she aint spayed.

that fact by itself pisses me off believe me, and the fact that theres a GOOD chance (from what i understand) that that might be part of the cause of the shitty behaviour pisses me off even more!!!! :X But no,, well get her spayed when next weeks check comes in, oh well get her spayed when christmas is over and there aint a million things to do, well get her spayed when, when, when, well its been 7 fuckin years and no one has found the time to get her 'fixed' yet. :X not enough mad faces to explain how much it gets to me.

Like i said, it aint My dog, at this point we could get rid of her and it wouldt really bother me, so i aint gonna take a couple hundred bucks that i busted my ass to earn, and am savin up to move out, to get that crappy piece of shit with fur spayed.

It gets me a lil down cuz i like animals and i love dogs and cats and all that shit, but this is one dog that i just dont love and feel kinda indifferent to at this point.

sciencedj maybe it came off to harsh, but you gotta understand that gettin anti depressant drugs prescribed for a DOG is a lil out there to me, when there are trivial lil expenses like you know, say, electricity, heat, etc to pay for. ;) i honestly would rather get rid of her. when it comes to a point where youre spendin more money on a pet than on food in one week, thats havin your priorities a lil twisted. im 100% against the people who mistreat, abuse, and abandon animals and shit, but god damn, it aint like shes my fuckin grandma, know what im sayin?

All yall been real helpful so far. i like to see the opinions of people cuz im kinda on the side of "good thing no one ever reported anything, otherwise this bitch woulda been long gone."

I'm usually against any "shock" type devices, lacey k, so I'm posting the link half tongue in cheek. You mentioned that this has been going on for years. Can I ask why the concern now, all of a sudden? I know you mentioned that it's been getting worse, but is there anything else that has changed in the household? It may be difficult trying to change something that's been going on for years, unchecked.

Cuz it been getting worse and worse. it never used to be more than 3-4 seconds of bugging out at a time, blink your eyes and it would be over. and she never used to actually bite just act like she was gonna, then pussy out.

now she will grab one of the cats and attack til you physically pull her off and the only way to get her to let go is force, you cant even really poull her off you have to give her a good solid punch on the side to get her to let go. shell go at it for a good minute and a half.

I guess before i didnt realize just how fucked up it was know what im sayin.

I aint scared of the bitch biting me. she has NEVER went for me. Why? cuz she knows ill smack the shit outta her if she tries it. I never show any fear to her, and never back down, and shell always just put her teeth away and her tail between her legs and whimper her little ass back under the table. but the rest of my fam is pretty soft on her and i think she knows it. i dont take no crap from her like i said and i dont have problems controllin her. she will still attack the cats n shit when im around, but never go for me.

It sounds like she's figured out a way to get attention, albeit negative. Especially with getting physical over the cats. I would definitely try and find a different method, other than hitting, to get her to release the cat or anything else she has in her mouth. The thing about that type of negative physical attention (abuse really) is that the one on the receiving end of it gets so used to it that they fall into an addicted trap of not being able of living without it. Get a water spray bottle instead. Works like a charm (usually). If water alone won't work, mix in a teaspoon of vinegar.

I can't stand aggressive dogs. They scare the shit out of me and I'm a big guy. My brother was attacked by a pitbull when we were kids and I was recently very nearly mauled by one. Hate them with a passion.

^^
How embarrasing do you think it is for me when i cant even have a friend come into the house cuz the dog will go fuckin nuts and try and kill them before they walk in the door. i cant stand it either .

SillyAlien, I wish she would respond to that, we tried all those thigns before. i know it aint right but there is no other way to get her off. tried the water thing, the metal can full of nuts and bolts thing, the throwin a magazine or a newspaper to try and smack her down thing, and a bunch of other things....that is why i feel like the situation is hopeless. i dont just smack up the dog for shits n giggles, when a 6'2, 230 pound man (my pops) cant pull a dog off of a little cat, then there is a time to use force if its the only way to make it work. im kinda more concerned about my kittens not dying here than not making negative thought patterns in my dogs head ya know :( Like when i say she freaks out, i aint talkin shes bein bad and barking and actin aggressive, i mean ALL OUT, RABID DOG style. if you saw her when she was freakin out, and didnt know any of this story, right away you would think she has rabies. I aint shittin you. It aint a pretty sight. i dont know how to emphasize how much this dog freaks out, like a wild vicious wolf or some shit. not your average bad dog

Its a beat situation, nothin that is bein done is the best thing but i dont know what the best thing could be.

I'd consider that Dazer or Pet Agree gadget then.

One of my dogs wa a stray german shepard. she acts very frendly and normal around my most of the time, but when I come home early in the morning some times she acts like i'm a stranger. If I get close she growls like shes going to attack me. It's not short lived either, she will do this for like 10 minutes. It's like she has a split personality, I always just assumed it was because she was mistreated from her previous owner.

I agree, sounds very much like it..........plus jealousy cos I bet the kittens are getting heaps of attention............bloody cats should be exterminated.

Dogs work on a sort of hierarchy. They have to learn who is the boss from when they are young IME. In this dogs mind you are at a higher level and the rest of your family is on a lower level. How did this dog act when it was a puppy? (was it friendly, shy...)

It's probably too late to show the dog now by yourself, you'll have to get a trainer if you want to change it's thinking now. But trainers are usually really expensive. The shocking thing might work. Every time the dog goes apeshit someone will have to shock the dog. Then the dog will think attacking the cat = pain. It is kind of brutal but I don't really think that anything else that would work. You could get a muzzle for it but from what you are saying I don't think your family would use it.

Get a muzzle for the love of god. Buy a GOOD book on canine training and put in the man hours. Nothing else you can do really. Your dog learned everything it knows from you and the interaction it sees in the family so I don't think it's really fair to blame the dog or put it to sleep. Fuck, if prozak is what it takes then who cares ? Plenty of people need prozak to make it through the day, why not a dog ? I damn well know i'd function better in general society with a prescription for benzos. If your family cares, they will spend the time to train/fix the problem. If they don't give a shit and just let it continue, well thats not really fair to the dog - your friends - and the people in the neighborhood who have/will be attacked. It takes WORK and TRAINING to raise a dog, just like a child if you don't make sure they do their homework and place nice or whatever the fuck otherwise they will grow up to be a BLUELIGHTER! ;) You know what i'm saying.
