    Meth lab. On my property
    #1
I own a property just a mile from the one I reside in. The police found what they think maybe the remains of a past meth lab inside the building.

They came to me and asked could they search, and I consented. I was very honest in admitting I had not been on the property since last summer, and verified that the items they removed had not previously been there.

Now, I have detectives coming to question me. AGIAN.

WTF? I have NOTHING to tell them, other than what I did the other day, which is that I have no clue who or when it happened.

Suggestions? Advice? What do I do here?

Are you worried they might think of you as a suspect? If you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to worry about. Just be honest when they ask you questions and it'll be over with sooner rather than later

I don't know if you use amphetamines at all, but if you do now might be a good time to take a break hehe

Tell them what you;ve already said. Don't change your story at all.

They will probably want to get your prints, also. (to cross check the stuff they confiscated).

Do not speak to the police about this without an attorney present. If you have contraband on your property - ANY of your property - that you know of, remove it immediately. I realize you were trying to be honest and that's commendable, but please exercise your right to have an attorney present!

    Stop. Right. There.

You've already told them something. Now your attorney can parrot that, and if incriminating, figure out his way of handling it.

    +1 on Mari's advice.

forgotten posted a video somewhere of why you should never speak with LE, I'm going to look for it and sticky it when I get a few minutes.

that's something a cop would say.

do not talk to the police.

just tell them you are busy and that you would rather not answer their questions.

Well, I really got caught off guard the time it happened. They just showed up on a tip- I consented, as I don't and havent done amp in years and years....

They already have my prints of file. I refused to even go near what they found, though I was there. I wasn't letting them search without me watching and they even allowed me to video it as long as they had a copy.

I put them off till monday, when I will take a lawyer with me. This isn't my junk, but they know I had shady friends before I cleaned up and I dont trust them either.

The problem with the current Methamphilia going around is the punitive laws now in the hands of LE. Having legal OTC products in the same residence can be charged as 'intent to manufacture a controlled substance' or 'conspiracy to manufacture precursors to a controlled substance', etc. Keep the Sudafed in the medicine cabinet, keep the starter fluid in the garage, keep the mathbooks in the junk drawer in the kitchen. Small town white communities have a blistering, Viagra charged hard on for crank labs and cooks. Get a lawyer now, and don't say another word to them about anything, no more consent to anything, they want anything have them get a warrant, and don't let them talk to you or go on your property without your lawyer. Trusting the cops is how you end up doing 8-12 for intent to manufacture because you had a few boxes of Sudafed and coffee filters in your house (another forum I used to frequent has several members confirmed as behind bars for precursor possession and intent/conspiracy to manufacture meth charges- they 'cooperated').

Here's the video. It illustrates why it is a good idea to never talk to the police, under any circumstances (even if you have done nothing wrong).

Total rubbish! You may have nothing to hide, but you have a lot to worry about. Get a lawyer.

Anything you say or do will be taken down and given in evidence. Regardless of whether you've done anything or not, you can hurt yourself infinitely more by talking (and later innocently or intentionally ommitting, adding or altering information) than by keeping your mouth shut.

^^Yep. The video gets into that.

The video is worth a watch for sure if you can stand his Buffalonian accent. Particularly around 3:05 on.

Make no statement to the police under any circumstances, DIND! It's your right. They CAN and WILL (operative word being "will") use any evidence they can against you. It is not required to be dishonest, but if you don't want to get popped for having a meth lab on property you own (whether or not it is yours) do realize that the circumstances you are dealing with require you to STFU and get a lawyer.

Gorgoroth, thanks for the reminder of (pseudo)ephedrine.

DIND, please post an update - this made my hair stand on end

Sorry, guys. I was going to do this monday but Ive been sick.

I met with the detective and dea guy with my lawyer monday. We looked at the video I had of them searching the house, showing what all they found. I know nothing about meth production so some things seemed stupid to me for them to take, like the ice chest and stuff like that.

Anyway, they tried the whole "Who has access to the property?" thing. I told them the truth, anyone. It isnt locked or gated, its abandoned. They went back that afternoon to take prints and such, which I know mine will be there.... as far I know, no one elses prints shold be very fresh.

Then they wanted to go through a list of people I know. Ok, small town, I know everyone. Seriously. Some of these ppl may be in the game,, but not that I know of. I also told them that I'd pretty much have to live under a rock not to know these ppl. I mean really....

I felt pressured and uncomfortable, but my lawyer said I did just the right thing by asking to tape the entire search. No way my prints will be on any of the evidence as the stuff wasnt in the place last time I was there.

So, I don't like it but it looks like someone got in, cooked up and left the evidence behind.

    Smart.

Getagun.... thats more than ironic. Now that I think about it, me getting clean hurt a couple of wallets pretty bad.

I had a heavy habit. I dont owe nobody nothin, but I aint middle manin' either. That's some income loss.

I wonder if someone is fuckin with me? They showed up 'on a tip' but I aint seen anything there.
