NEWS: 22.6.09 - Man charged over prison cell drugs plot

A MAN has been charged after police foiled his attempt to smuggle drugs into a prison cell.

The 26-year-old Oakleigh man was visiting the Sunshine police station with clothing and personal items for a male friend who was being held in custody.

Police found a syringe head, five needles, 20 MS Contin, 96 Temazepam and a quantity of cannabis hidden in a hollowed out area of a shoe.

Acting Senior Sergeant Adam Fry said the drugs bust was due to the diligence of three members who were performing prisoner escort duties.

“They all did a good job; you have to be alert and on the ball in these situations, especially when dealing with prisoners,’’ he said.

“Let this be a lesson to anyone else who thinks they can come in here and pull the same trick.’’

Nine people, aged between 25 and 35, have been charged with more than 60 offences after police seized about $40,000 worth of illegal drugs in raids across Mount Isa in north-west Queensland yesterday.

The operation involving 25 officers seized 100 grams of methylamphetamine, half a kilogram of cannabis, a quantity of ecstasy and $15,000 in cash.

Some of the alleged offenders charged with drug trafficking offences are due to appear in court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Austin says public information played a key role in the investigation.

"This operation was assisted immensely by the assistance we've had from the public of Mount Isa," he said.

"We seem to get a lot of good information from the Mount Isa public - they seem to have a low tolerance for drugs in this town.

"It certainly helps police investigations, it gives us a good insight as to who's dealing the drugs in Mount Isa.

"This investigation's specifically targeted dealers and those on the higher end of the food chain, so to speak, in relation to drug dealing in Mount Isa.

"Obviously it's an ongoing issue and this is an ongoing investigation."

Bitter taste of M&M's
BY ANTHONY HANEVEER
25/06/2009 12:00:00 AM
IF TREATS are handed out in prison, a Devonport man could be forgiven for turning up his nose at M&M's.

Dwayne Grant Seabourne, 21, was jailed for three months yesterday for attempting to traffick in ecstasy - in spite of the "drugs" turning out to be the popular chocolate confectionery.

Last week, Seabourne admitted he travelled to Melbourne in November last year and paid thousands of dollars for what he thought were 400 ecstasy tablets.

When intercepted by police at the Launceston Airport, he readily admitted to having bought the drugs and handed over a cylinder wrapped in masking tape.

Opened in a recorded police interview, the package turned out to contain hundreds of blue M&M's, much to Seabourne's surprise.

"You had been deceived and as a result paid $6000 for chocolate," Justice Shan Tennent summed up in sentencing in the Burnie Supreme Court.

Along with the attempting to traffick charge, Seabourne also pleaded guilty last week to several minor drug offences.

While "clearly an unusual case", Justice Tennent said the sentence she imposed on Seabourne should reflect his intentions and the steps he took to fulfil them.

She said he obviously intended to sell ecstasy, even if it was not a well-planned operation and had been attempted at the last minute.

Seabourne had travelled to Melbourne, Justice Tennent said, using a false name and also had bank cards in that name.

The former champion darts player was jailed for five months, with the last two months of that sentence suspended for two years provided he be of good behaviour.

He was also ordered to pay a Victims of Crime levy of $130.

On a positive note for Seabourne, the Crown did not apply for a forfeiture order.

That means he may be able to apply to have the rather expensive M&M's returned.

Thursday, 02 Jul 2009 05:08am

Two men have been charged and approximately $450,000 worth of cannabis has been seized in Sydney’s west overnight after a random breath test stop.

About 9.10pm police attached to Fairfield Highway Patrol stopped a Toyota Hi-Ace van in Frederick Street at Fairfield for the purpose of a random breath test.

When officers approached the van they allegedly noticed a strong smell emanating from the vehicle.

As a result officers searched the van and will allege that they located a large number of bags which contained cannabis leaf and a number of cannabis plants.

The 31-year-old driver and 25-year-old passenger were arrested at the scene and taken to Fairfield police station where they were interviewed.

Both men were charged with possess prohibited plant, deemed supply commercial quantity of cannabis leaf and knowingly take part in cultivation of a prohibited plant.

Um hash isnt made from leaves dude its made from buds:) The brown hash is compressed THC crystals.

Hehe strongest shit ever.

Resin extraction using butane or other solvents on head leaf can produce a potent product. If mixed with powered leaf material and pressed, most people would never know it wasn't prepared in a traditional manner.

some people still dont know about extraction of thc and cbd from the leafs and adding sulphiruc acid to it to causes cbd to change into thc and so on ...

people should do some reading ...

Leaf from the buds that you can actually see thc glands on as PD said you can use butane which will freeze the thc on leaves and it turns to a honey ...

but because I had just leaf I tried the iso extraction and it was shit .. this is why storing 40kilos of leaf is just not worth it ..

you get in same trouble for leaf and buds ... the courts make no distinction because both products can be smoked to get high , just takes alot more leaf to get an effect ..

just like a male marijuana plant and female marijuana plant are exactly the same in the laws eyes ... so you get in same trouble ...

Home-grown: Sydney dope franchise raid

July 3, 2009 - 1:49PM

A split-level Sydney house in a quiet suburban street was emptied and turned into a "self-growing" cannabis operation that nurtured hundreds of cannabis plants, police say.

Officers investigating drug supply in north-west Sydney raided the house - on James Cook Drive at Kings Langley - about 6.45am today, said Inspector David Lagats from Quakers Hill police.

"There was nobody home at the time but we discovered an elaborate hydroponic set up, with lights and irrigation," he said.

Police have removed more than 400 plants from the house, believed to be worth more than $600,000.

The plants - from seedlings to fully-matured plants - were found in nine separate areas of the four bedroom house, Inspector Lagats said.

The hydroponic set up was comparable to other cannabis houses that have been discovered by police, and featured indoor lighting, fans, irrigation and power diverted from the mains.

But unlike previous discoveries, police found no one living inside the Kings Langley house.

"It appears the house has been cleared for the purpose of growing cannabis," Inspector Lagats said.

"They had lighting and irrigation so it was virtually self-growing."

But those running the operation appeared to have occasionally checked in on their plants.

Investigators had some leads on those responsible for the operation.

Today's Kings Langley discovery follows countless similar finds across Sydney in the past year.

These include the discovery of eight drug houses in the south-western Sydney of Blair Athol in one week last May, in which 2500 plants and and more than $23 million in drugs and assets were seized.

A month later, ten homes were raided in a single day in St Marys and surrounding suburbs.

Last week a little girl was found inside a St Marys house allegedly containing 172 cannabis plants and a sophisticated hydroponics set-up, police said.

In February, detectives investigating Sydney's cannabis growing syndicate described how its leaders employed a "franchise" model to grow cannabis an supply plants to other houses.

The revelations followed the discovery in February of a Bexley home that had an underground drug den and an escape tunnel.

The house was believed to be one of the syndicate's headquarters that supplied plants to other homes.

Inspector Lagats said it was too early to say whether the Kings Langley home was part of a syndicate.

Police have previously discovered cannabis houses after tip-offs from suspicious neighbours.

The NSW Police website now includes a page showing people how they can identify a "drug house".

Inspector Lagats said today's raid at Kings Langley was prompted by "information uncovered during an ongoing investigation".
