Wednesday, 20 May 2009 02:29pm
A public tip-off has led to a man’s arrest and the discovery of a clandestine drug laboratory in Sydney’s south west today.
About 12.30pm, police from Campsie Local Area Command conducted a search warrant on a home unit on Sproule Street, Lakemba, following an investigation into alleged drug manufacturing.
Specialists from the Drug Squad’s chemical operations unit are in the process of dismantling the sophisticated illegal drug laboratory, allegedly producing the drug “speed”.
The operation could take up to two days and at this time the value and quantity of illicit drugs, and the potential of the laboratory, is unknown.
Earlier in the day, about 10:30am, police arrested a 36-year-old man at the unit. He was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with manufacture prohibited drug.
He has been bail refused and is expected to appear at Burwood Local Court later today.
Anyone who has information about this incident or similar activity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. All calls can be made anonymously and in the strictest confidence.
