How strong can drug dogs smell?

^
The most common from what I've seen is: cannabis, heroin, cocaine. I'm sure methamphetamine is also a common one where its prevelant.

This thread is in somewhat in a gray area, but as long as it doesn't turn into a howto smuggling thread I will leave it open. I've heard so many mixed reports about drug dogs as to how good they can really smell or not. The Wood's post was very informative and if his information is accurate, I hope I don't find myself in a position where I have to deal with a police dog when I have some harmless plant extracts on me or something. I'm sure how good they are depends entirely on the dog, just like some people see better than others. The average police dogs seem to do well when trained to sniff out strong smelling drugs like weed. Most H does have a strong vinegar-like scent to it. I wouldn't risk smuggling it.

^Do I take it your in the US? European number 3 smoking heroin (the freebase) has a slight smell, but a vinegar smell is the sign of shitty smack. Nobody would buy it in the UK, Holland or Germany, I know that much. Mexican heroin seems to have a bad reputation as far as there being random crap mixed in...

k9

well i just got out of jail for my dumbass gettin pulled over by the k9 and i only had 2 small bags of h and as soon as the dog got to my dog he sat down , and he smelled shit that i left in my rig that was in my spare tire in the truck closed . so id say dont try to get over on police dogs not worth it .

^east coast dope doesn't smell like it either, the only type i've ever heard of that does is tar.

SWIM was walking past a cop shop 1 evening many years ago, swim was smoking a spliff, one of the vans outside the police station had a dog inside ( locked in) the dog barked like mad when swim and his friends walked past the van, id say from about 20feet away the dog went crazy.

I think if a dog has been trained to sniff out drugs, it will do so automaticly - the way they are trained is that they are rewarded with treats when they succesfully smell what they are after (during training)

In London the cops routinely walk sniffer dogs in train and underground stations ( or at least they used to) the dogs were trained to sit down next to the culprit, i think the same applies to dogs at airports.

Swim had a very very close escape at heathrow 2 years ago, awaiting a flight to Shanghai there was a sniffer dog ( this was sept 11 so swim suspects dog looking for bombs?) anyway, swim had 2 xtc tabs in his backpack, swim was seated next to swims friend who had backpack on floor, (swims was on his back thank goodness) and sniffer dog was sniffing swims friends crotch and his little toiletry bag, swims friend was orderd to open the toiletry bag while swim was in a state of emergency lol Swim got on the plane and was greeted by more dogs in Shanghai airport, needless to say them pills went in swims mouth ready to be swalowed asap. BE FUCKING CAREFUL

Some of you guys are too paranoid. Yes, dogs have an acute sense of smell. No, they do not have X-ray vision or human intelligence.

It's been well-known since at least WW2 that trained hounds could be deliberately and easily thrown off. The Allies used handkerchiefs soaked with rabbit blood and cocaine, which would attract and dull the dog's sense of smell, to hide Jewish refugees.

Proper sealing CAN completely eliminate a smell. Also, DOGS DO NOT DETECT EVERYTHING. They don't look for most drugs, just the most common, it depends on the individual training it's received.

All I'm saying is don't be so paranoid. Most all dogs will easily smell a small quantity of weed on you though, so be careful in some public places.

Humans, for the most potent smells, generally smell in parts per million, while dogs typically smell in parts per billion, if not trillion. Thats a wide, wide, wiiide disparity.

So, do Jewish refugees smell like rabbit blood and cocaine then? I did not know that :D

I hope this question doesn't go against BL rules; but, if one were to hypothetically wrap a bit of a substance that a dog would be trained to smell into cellotape, then put that into a full shampoo bottle, then hid amongst various other items, would that have a chance of being smelled by a dog if it were looking for something?

From the information in this thread I am a little confused as to the possible outcome of this.

Yes the dog would smell it.

I've heard the ww2 stories about k9's being thrown off with coke. How were the dogs able to distinguish jews from non-jews though? Or were they simply always looking for people who were in hiding, so therefore they'd have to be jews...

Or socialists, communists, homosexuals, gypsies or anyone non-aryan really...

The problem is when 1 handles drugs and wraps the drugs in cellafane etc the scent of the drug is still present in the persons hands, so you may seal it 100 times then hide in a shampoo bottle, but if you havnt washed your hands between wraps then you might aswell carry it loose in your pocket.

My advice for anyone thinking of evading a dogs scent - get a load of disposable gloves, wrap the drugs an inch thick in cellafane, changing gloves each time. Or get someone else to do your smuggling!

.

I saw a documentry, a Jewish guy went missing in a concerntration camp, they sent out sniffer dogs to try find him, he never left the camp, he merely hid in a small shelter with a lump of tobacco soaked in petrol, he was never found.
