What increases sex drive?

I am curious about the use of hormones to increase sex drive. I don't really have the intention of putting myself on a medication because I feel my sex drive is fairly adequate, however I am interested in what people who do experience severly diminished sex drive are put on in order to increase it or what natural chemicals increase sex drive.

In men anyway (and possibly in women, although I'm not as familiar with that) sex drive is primarily linked to testosterone levels. Increasing testosterone also increases estrogen levels, and estrogen (in moderation) also seems to be important for normal sexual function in men. When an older male patient experiences a decline in sex drive and other possibilities have been eliminated (such as stress or depression), low testosterone levels are often the culprit. (Test declines with age.)

So, testosterone is the obvious (drug) choice to boost sex drive in men.

noooo there is no need for testosterone injections in euphoricnod's case,

natural chemicals increase sex drive.
Tribulus
you cant go wrong with any tribex brand, they'r quality
Regular exersize will always help maintain testosterone levels

Testosterone levels are linked to sexual activity in females, too (though you can get female rats to start mounting male rats if you get them horny enough, so it may not be stereotyped female physical sexual activity).

Testosterone treatment for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in postmenopausal women.
Kingsberg S.

Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, OH, USA. [email protected]

INTRODUCTION: The reduced levels of testosterone in postmenopausal women are associated with loss of libido, decreased sexual activity, diminished feelings of physical well-being, and fatigue. A bilateral oophorectomy can lead to decreases in sexual desire in 50% of cases by removing ovarian contribution to the circulating levels of testosterone. Testosterone therapy is an option for the restoration of sexual drive. AIM: Transdermal testosterone administration may bypass the effects of first pass hepatic metabolism. To this end a series of studies have been carried out using a novel transdermal testosterone system. A review of the results from these studies are presented here. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: A key feature of these studies was the use of validated study instruments to measure sexual function: Sexual Activity Log (SAL), Profile of Female Sexual Function (PFSF) and Personal Distress Scale. METHODS: The data from the Phase III studies, known as the Investigation of Natural Testosterone in Menopausal women Also Taking Estrogen in Surgically Menopausal women (INTIMATE SM) 1 and 2 were reviewed and the salient information is presented here. RESULTS: Both INTIMATE 1 and 2 showed a significant increase in total satisfying sexual activity, via the SAL in those women receiving testosterone, compared with those women in the placebo group. Total satisfying sexual activity increased by 74% and 51% for INTIMATE 1 and 2, respectively. The PFSF instrument demonstrated significant improvements in INTIMATE 1 and 2 in all domains of sexual function in testosterone-treated women compared with the placebo patients. In both studies, personal distress decreased in those patients receiving testosterone, compared with the placebo group. The most commonly reported adverse events were application site reactions. Eight-five percent of patients said they would probably or definitely continue treatment. Conclusions. The transdermal testosterone patch is an effective treatment for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in surgically postmenopausal women receiving concomitant estrogen therapy. The treatment has a favorable safety profile.

It's also interesting to note that men experience depression much less than females -- perhaps in the future a centrally active androgen will be developed that will increase the libido of women and make them more like men in terms of depression and dominance (a bizarre world that would be, but I bet guys wouldn't complain...).

A lot of monoamine increasing drugs cause elevations in sex drive as well, partcularly amphetamine and methamphetamine. I'm sure methylphenidate does too.

Exercise:
Swimming!
...gloriously undulating your hips and body through the water, arching your back and then thrusting your chest forward, pushing and pulling with all your might, while breathing vigorously...yes that's the idea!
It's legitimate exercise, but you see what I mean ;)

Foods:
I've had alot of luck with dark chocolate (at least 70 % ).
Among other things it contains L-Arginine. This amino acid is a precursor to nitric oxide, which dilates the blood vessels through the body. It is stimulating and quite healthy.

It's my favorite pre-loading 'supplement'.
Haha, it works almost too well for me...I tend to forget how exhausted I'll feel in the morning if I go too long (2-3 hours).

^Horny Goat weed is supposed to be good. So is a supplement called 'Cobra'. At the very least they have strong sexual symbolism.

Tribulus terrestris, ZMA... both supposed to boost test levels which in turn can increase sex drive..

eat healthy, exercise and drink a lot of water. if you don't have a normal sex drive doing that, somethings wrong.

Tribulus is great, increases testosterone, saw palmetto is good to take with it, as it protects the prostate and keeps estrogen levels from becoming too low, which can be unhealthy. Tyrosine is good or cowitch, which contains l-dopa, both are dopamine precusors, and can increase sex drive. Horny goat weed (epimedium) has effects similar to viagra.

Yohimbe is meant to be quite good also, and times the more you do something, the more you like it

Ive found yohimbe to be extremely stimulating, not necesarily sexually stimulating, but not sexually repressing either. But it does make me very jittery and wired.

weightlifting

Agreed. Weightlifting/excercise/clean diet has done nothing but benefit my sex life and life in general....Lifting weights has become such an addiction

testosterone... DHT (testosterone converts to this, though propecia and proscar block the 5 alpha reductase enzyme that converts test to dht, so if you are on this and lose your sex drive thats your problem)

also mesterolone aka proviron is great for this purpose.

im not sure whether that its simply an intrinsic property of proviron, or because proviron supposedly can lower SHBG.

lowering SHBG will increase your free testosterone, which is the most important # for sex drive, muscle gains etc.

tribulus and other herbs are SUPPOSED TO work at lowering SHBG, but in my 15 years of training experience all the herbs are shit.

some people also say masteron makes them horny but they are usually on test too

In my experience, people say this because most herbs are actually less than 2% active contituents, and require extreme mega-doses to be effective. Tribulus, I've found, begins to be useful at 15 or more grams. One common supplement supplier sells this herb in capsules of 200mg. One would literally have to take the whole bottle of 30 pills to have any positive result other than placebo.

There is compound called PT-141 or bremelanotide which is spposed to increase desire in both men and women. It is also used for ED in men. Unlike viagra which acts on the vascular system, PT-141 acts on the melanocortin system. Here is a link to some info on it.

I plan on trying it in the next few weeks...............nf

ever since i had sex on ecstasy for the first time that's all i wanna do now. sexstasy's the shit. x and a female make for extreme horniness.
