The official No Limit Texas Hold 'Em thread

I sometimes smoke a bowl to avoid tilt late in MTT's. I can think of a few live Pro's that appear to have substance abuse problems. Look at the late Stu Ungar. I have a bad habit of watching TV and playing. We should start a thread for Poker Performance Enhancing Drugs.

I would be down for a SNG

I take Adderal and it helps me focus, especially when multi-tabling. I definitely "zone-in" when playing.

In regards to the SnG, I'm on Stars - hook it up.

I have an empty Full Tilt account, but I could trade Stars cash for a transfer.

have u seen stus nose? jeez..

anyways, i ddint add weed as something that i don't reccomend while playing poker , but ther is one thing that it can do that isn't all that great when ur really high is the intensity of everything (specifically losses, losing, and recognition of bad play) . doesnt stop me from either however

Wow, I just realized my new mac is not compatable with Stars....

So I am stuck to full tilt only, how many of you play there?

all of my home games are major stoner fests....which is nice because no one has the "clear head" advantage :D

i'm on stars btw

hey guys, i have a small issue with poker for the time being (the past couple weeks or so) ..ever since i got really sick , i haven't been able to play like i used to, i cant really put my finger on what i can do to help out (if i could, i woulda tried/done something by now). i literally just cant PLAY or osmething. i think its a mixture of the lack of feeling like im gona win , and boredom of the game. i wish i could just sit down like i used to, excited for the decisions in front of me, but now it's like it is a hassle. perhaps i just burned myself out with the game in a short period of time ( i was playing 6+hrs daily) , and perhaps my passion for playing will come back, cuz don't get me wrong. i watch more poker than i play now. i love the game, but something keeps me from playing all day like before (online).

Quick question on behalf of my dad: does anyone know how much plastic playing cards typically cost? He wants to start importing them for his shop, and he wants to know how he should price them....

It depends on the quality of the cards, it can vary a lot. Check it out on ebay or amazon to see what the prices are.

To Itchy I experienced the same thing you did with online poker a while ago. I got competey sick of it and with drew my whole roll off of online and started playing live more. I tend to enjoy live games much more than I do the internet and after a 2 month break I have started playing online again. Just take a break, maybe try to go to the casino or get involved in a home game.

I do not know about wholsale prices, but you can get KEM's for around $10 a deck, other brands like Copag, Modiano, ect run around $7 to $20 a deck

When I get burned out w/grinding, I switch things up. Play some REALLY low-limit Omaha or do more reading than playing.

If you're playing cash games mainly, maybe switch to tournaments for a while or vice versa.

I also have a group of friends I'm constantly discussing hands and strategy with, so that helps keep me interested and things fresh. Also, if I start to get lazy and play poorly, they let me know.

I switch games or take a break when holdem gets old

5 card draw and stud are my favorites, I think they both improve aspects of my holdem game

reading about and watching poker is good too

My game has been improving lately, I think, but not quite enough. In the last four big tournaments I've played on Absolute (freerolls, with rebuys) I've finished ITM 3 times. But for ridiculous payouts: $5.40 (for finishing 6th); $0.38 (for finishing 28th; very frustrating as I took the lead with 100 players left, was top 5 with 60 left, lost ground but got back to 7th with 35 left); and (no joke) $0.05. Yep, 5 cents! (There's this weird payout structure on AP where their Omaha H/L's pay up to 324 finishers, but literally a couple of cents each).

So if my game had been just a little bit better, I'd have made maybe another 20 or 30 dollars. Not much in the big scheme of things, but good considering I paid nothing. (I'm still steaming that someone I had a note on from a previous game as "aggressive, chases draws, lucky" did just that against me and took me out ;)).

fortunately a relatively good session got me back on my feet and playing a good 4+ hrs the past few days. i think losing over a 1k+ run of cards is quite debilitating to the motivation to play , fortunately good runs bring a good mindstate to start playing

Loaded up my bankroll today 69$ and made that into 100$ now playing sit'n go's, heads up, and like 15 minutes worth of cash games.

But damn Ive stayed up all night playing poker and once I get up tomorrow I know I will start again.. I may lose it all because I don't take my bankroll into account AT ALL and play on limits that are far too high for me..

In real life games I've been doing quite well recently and this is more of a distraction.
If I don't watch out I'll lose it all tomorrow though :p

pff off to bed now and I know you regulars must love people like me so if your lucky you'll see me tonight at Poker Stars %)

So this was one easy 20$ won,
I really wonder what the hell that guy was doing, maybe he thought he hit a straight or something?? damn me for not making a note for this guy..

I wouldn't count on everyone playing that stupidly...

I'm not doing this to make money, and if I lose my 70$ so be it...
just want to have some fun and am at 170$ now. :)
I have about 1/5 of the FPP's needed to clear my 50$ bonus.

So far so good, I'm well aware that my way of playing online poker is NOT the way to play if your playing more seriously.

I've played a lot of live games and I think I can compete at these levels although a bit of bad luck will obviously kill my entire bankroll :\

I've been paying extra attention to the FM (folded money) ratio lately...its a very helpful concept. basically, it is a ratio of how many hands go to showdown.

If a lot of hands go to showdown, you can only play good cards because there is a decent chance that your cards will matter.

If not a lot of hands go to showdown, one can be more liberal in the hands they play because there is a good chance that they will never be turned over and therefore not matter.

I've found that FM can be high or low on both tight and aggressive tables. IE there could be an aggressive table that has a high FM and and aggressive table with a low FM. So just because the table is aggressive, one might want to play more hands than normal (on an aggressive table) because there is a good chance that no showdown will occur.

what are ya'lls thoughts on the FM ratio?
