Do you guys have any favorite web sites with good info about excercise, eating right, or general health? We can start a collection so people have somewhere to go for a good database of info.

A few of mine:

My Body Comp -this site has a thing where you can take all of your measurements and put them into a calculator. It makes a graph of how in porportion your body is so you can see where you need to lose a few inches or bulk up to be more healthy.

Fitness Made Simple -Tons of fitness and health information.

Worlds Healthiest Foods -This is a well designed site that has a lot of nutrition information, TONS of healthy recipies and food info. It also has information about what nutrients are in each recipe so you can know exactly what you are getting. I think its pretty neat.

ACNE.ORG -This site was a lifesaver for me, and should be looked at by anyone seeking help for skin problems. It was a detailed (and free) system for clearing skin..it also has links to somewhere you can buy a larger sized bottle of benzoyl peroxide gel (the gel used in the program) which is a MUCH better deal (and in my opinion) a much better product than those tiny tubes of clearasil you find in the store.

QuitNet -this site really is beneficial to anyone wanting to quit smoking. They have a calculator that you can use to add up your time and cigarettes not smoked, money and lifetime saved. I enjoyed using it a lot when I was trying to stay away from the ciggs.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Anyone else have any favorite healthy sites? :)

http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

Helps you figure out how many calories you should be eating in a day whether you want to maintain weight, gain weight, or lose weight. Factors in weight/height, age, and activity level to give you the most accurate calculation.

Information on calculating BMI and a few other things.

Also a lot of helpful links within that site! :D

Here's a site I find very interesting:
http://www.sivanandadlshq.org/download/brahma_nopic.htm

It's about brahmacharya (chastity) and its benefits in terms of spiritual, mental and physical health. It might be of interest to anyone who's found meditation to be beneficial or enjoyable.

"Continence is not harmful... On the contrary, even a little self-restraint or a little practice of continence is an ideal pick-me-up. It gives inner strength and peace of mind... The special virtues of endurance and bravery are intimately connected with the cultivation of chastity."

http://www.exrx.net/ is the most amazing resource - it has everything from dieting, how to perform every weight lifting exercise, how to prepare for a marathon, and a million other things.

http://www.vegweb.com --- tons of vegetarian, vegan, and raw recipes there's even coupons and a meal planner on the site!

http://www.weightremedy.net/ weight loss and diet help i got this info from this site and have been losing weight ever since:

5 worst foods to eat while trying to lose weight

Sugar, in any shape, form, or fashion.

Read labels carefully, however, because manufacturers have begun to call sugar by many different names - sucrose, dextrose, and so on. Basically, if it ends in "-ose" assume it's a sugar unless you're certain otherwise. (By the way, fructose is metabolized almost the same way the regular sugar is, and as such is not a good substitute).

Anything fried in additional oil.

If you can fry it without adding butter, shortening, or oil, that's fine. This means you don't have to broil your hamburger - just drain it well.

Fruit juice

For the same - or fewer - calories, you can have a piece of fruit that also has a more filling effect and higher fiber.

Non-diet carbonated beverages.

High in calories and sodium with zero nutritional value.

Peanut butter.

The calories are extremely high per serving, and consist almost entirely of sugar and fat.

:)

Mental health

this site is highly recommended ...great, easy to understand info

in depth information about self help, mental help and introspection

... do some clicking as it can be hard to navigate
...but it's a lot like a book

you can read a chapter, it has a table of contents, or you can read from page to page by using the arrows.

it can be long too ...so learn to read the important subjects that pertain to you and your interest

SELF HELP

The amazon is the worlds greatest health resource: http://www.rain-tree.com/indicate.htm

25% of Western pharmaceuticals are derived from rainforest ingredients, but less than 1% of trees and plants have been tested by scientists from there.

Too bad we are destroying it
