My doctor has had me on a high dose of neurontin for some time, but it does NOTHING for my anxiety. I beg him to put me on a benzodiazepine, but he refuses. My life is unmanageable with my anxiety/panic. He just wrote me a script for Baclofen, and says it might help. I can't find much information on this stuff at all. Does anyone knows anything about Baclofen?! Its supposedly a GABA-B agonist.

Yup, it is definatly a GABA-B agonist... It might possibley have some effects. My advice, get a new doctor... he could at least prescribe something which is indicated for anxiety.
If he's not going to put your on a benzo, you coudl ask for an SSRI or buspirone.

my dad had it prescribed for back aches/pain/tension. they didnt help. i've taken them..no good recreational effects

Drugs that affect the GABA-B receptors shouldn't be recreational but might help with anxiety but not all that much. Drugs that affect the GABA-A receptors are typically recreational and work much better for anxiety. I believe that Neurontin is supposed to affect the GABA-B receptors also. I'm suprised that he prescribed you this drug because Baclofen is nothing more than a muscle relaxor and anti-spastic. It shouldn't really calm you down as much as just make you a little drowsy. From what I have read it lasts anywhere from four to eight hours and takes about one hour to kick in. When all is said and done, Baclofen is not a recreational drug and isn't really prescribed for anxiety. Why does he refuse a benzodiazepine? Does he think that your anxiety is bad enough or is he aware of any sort of current or past drug abuse? I would recommend that you go see another doctor or at the very least ask for some sort of SSRI like Paxil or an SNRI like Effexor, both which are prescribed for both anxiety and depression. Hey, its better than the drug that you are prescribed right now :\

Actually, especially for an alcoholic, GHB addict or the like, baclofen feels nice.

Is GHB actually a GABA-B receptor full agonist? A few years ago, I heard rumours of a specific "GHB receptor," but I never saw any follow-up research that would disambiguate the GABA-B receptor and the magical GHB receptor.

Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is a naturally occuring metabolite of GABA that acts at GHB-specific, G protein-coupled presynaptic receptors. GHB is also a weak partial agonist at GABA-B receptors. The effect of GHB on regional and subcellular brain adenylyl cyclase in adult and developing rats was determined and compared with that of the GABABR agonist (-)-baclofen.

And a shit load of info on GHB:

fuck SSRIs, they dont do shit. it wasnt untill my doc put me on welbutrin that anything changed

In case someone wanted to know. After taking seroxat I developed serious extrapyramidal symptons, like muscle aches, tremors and such. I were worsening the effects by drinking alcohol to actually get some rest for a couple hours. I then switched to tetrazepam which, for a benzodiazepine, has no mind numbing effects.
Then I switched to very high doses of baclofen, which, for the first days, worked wonders. I was sublty taken to the pleasant GHB-like feeling high, with all the sexuality, disinhibition, euphoria and the like. After a couple days the effects are still there, with increased sexuality, much less tension, definitely socialising properties. The only downside is a possibility, higher than with GHB, to fall into asleep in a very narcoleptic pattern.

It is also worth noting that baclofen is a chloroderivative of phenibut, which is said to be a fine GHB replacement. I, however, find baclofen way cleaner and less toxic than phenibut, as phenibut is active in the 2-3g range whereas 150mg baclofen is already lots of fun.

I missssss GHB/GBL....very fun times on that stuff!!
It's pretty much non-existant now though, at least in my state. *pout*

Nagash ... 150mg of baclofen sounds like a lot! How do you get a doc to write a scrip for that much? Last I heard, around 10mg 3 times dailt was a typical doseage.

This thread was started over 5 years ago and hasnt seen any discussion in 4 years. I doubt that the OP is here to reply to you...

I was on Baclofen for my back and it did not help, even a little bit. I took 100mg at a time (ten pills) 3 times on one day and still had no relief. It is available in 10mg tablets and 20mg ODT's. In my opinion, it is a useless drug for back pain and it was useless for anxiety as well.

Baclofen is the best drug I have ever taken! I have felt like I am on "Valium" but better.

It makes me feel like normal again and relaxes me better than Valium.

I am not anxious but "tense" and guess what "Baclofen" works the best!!

I am not tense anymore?

Tommy

I find Baclofen stronger than Phenibut. I get GHB/GBL like euphoria, talkativity, hornyness etc just not quite as strong, it feels a lot cleaner than G though.

This is exactly my experience with Baclofen. Was also prescribed it for back pain and it did precisely shit all :\

I find baclofen to be recreational. In took 85mg and felt like I was floating while laying on the couch. then after about an an hour and a hafl I started getting blurry vision and started to doze off. A few hours later my mom found me and she said she had to smack me in the face just to wake me up. side note I am also on ( 4mg of suboxone, 2mg of xanax, 50mg prozac, 6mg zyprexa, 40mg ritalin, and 10mg ambien) but I had not taken my xanax or ambien when I tried baclofen.

SWIM is on 12 mg's of suboxone daily and was prescribed one hundred and twenty 10 mg baclofen. The first two times SWIM took around 70mg's but didn't really know what to think about it, just felt weird and out of it and very clumsy and tired the next day. SWIM waited about a week to try this again because of all the positive and recreational effects SWIM's read about, and this time felt absolutely amazing. Very euphoric and SWIM has never tried GHB but could imagine it's very similar. SWIM had alot of energy and was very motivated. Also would doze off randomly and then randomly would have bursts of euphoric energy.. Absolutely had no anxiety and SWIM would think it's like a mix of Valium and GHB. Definitely euphoric and really looking forward to doing again. SWIM has also noticed that a dose of 60 mg's works perfect everytime and no tolerance has set in. This is also my very first post on bluelight so I apogize if this carried on too much or if I broke any bluelight rules.
