Help me quit meth.

My meth habit is quite mild compared with most users - one point a week, with a 2 week break every month or so - but it keeps coming back to bite me. I'm crashing now so make of that what you will, but every time I do the shit I resolve never to touch it again once I'm coming down. Come next week though, all of that goes out the window and I tell myself my habit isn't so bad and that was just the crash talking, etc. The thing is, I never feel like I need it, it's always a 'fuck it, whatever' type thing. I never crave it during the week either.

When I'm on it I become a kind of kinky porn/sex addict and I just don't think it's healthy. It makes me feel like a skeaze. So please, guys, help me stay away from that shit once and for all. I want yesterday to be the last ever time I touch it. No more excuses.

Sadly, staying sober is something you can only accomplish yourself.

This forum is a great place for support, but you are the only person who can actually quit your habit.

Some tips:

Delete contacts of dealers
Stop hanging out with people you use with
Stop going places you associate with using
Never go anyplace if you even think you may see meth there

If you think the crash off a point a week is bad, wait until you start doing multiple points in a single day. You are wise to recognize this problem early, and it most definitely is a problem even thought it may feel awesome while you are on it. Massive floods of dopamine tend to have that effect.

In the end, you won't quit until you truly have the desire to quit. You have to take an active role in separating yourself from the drug or you will likely find yourself getting more and more involved with it.

Best of luck.

I had to move to another town to get rid of my habit. You might not necessarily have to, but if you do it's not a big deal. Think of it as a new beginning and a journey.

I think it's fantastic that you're noticing this pretty early on. That's a good sign and shows a lot of promise and strength. <3

Ditto. I was completely unable to separate myself from the drug culture of where I used to live. Literally 90%+ of the people I knew used or sold drugs, and 100% of my friends did.

After moving, I was able to kick my habit for over a year. Sadly my mom died soon after and I stopped giving a fuck about life for a while and relapsed pretty hard. I am not clean at the moment but I am working a path towards sobriety. I would be unable to do this if I was in my previous surroundings.

Anyway, as spork said this is a moving is a drastic step and at this point you are a "light" enough user that I think it would be a bit overkill. If you find yourself sinking deeper and deeper into the culture, it may be a path to consider.

I would certainly be dead if I hadn't moved. I've had more friends from my old city die in the past three years than I have fingers :(

Countless others are in jail or on paper and will likely end up dying young as well. Given the drug of choice in my old city was heroin and potent pharmaceutical opiates. The only difference is meth kills you much more slowly, destroying your body in the process.

In my opinion, meth is worse than heroin. I've done heroin, crack, you name it, yet no other drug has given me this much grief before. Also, meth affects your brain :/. I don't care that much if I die, but I don't want to go like that. Just please not my mind. I live in the Philippines so the only hard drug available is meth and overpriced coke. There's no heroin or opiates to speak of.

Btw, I've been doing it on and off for about 2 years so it's not that new to me. On and off because every few months I have to leave the country for exams.

Cheers for the advice guys. I'll delete my dealer's number and block it.

Try to find a hobby. When I find I'm too into drugs (Previous opiate addiction, 2yrs sober from them), I find that I'm mainly doing it because I'm bored, then eventually it grows into habit, then dependence. Cut it out while it's early. Find something to do that will give you no time left for doing meth

Same as Spork and Villian....I had to hightail it far away to quit meth, I'll have 90 days off on Saturday. I knew early on I needed to quit but allowed it to cycle out of control before I did and the consequences have been far reaching. However, the advice given previously is spot on. Remove yourself as much as possible from the culture, exercise, vitamins and try and find a sober support team. You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders, leave the meth....it's only downhill. Good luck my friend.
