My personal top three.

Adding to the list:
Benicio Del Toro
Russel Crowe
Jared Leto
Catherine Keener
Guy Pearce
Tim Robbins
Nicholas Cage
John Cusack
John Malkovich
Willem Dafoe
Malcolm McDowell
Jake Gyllenhaal
Maggie Gyllenhaal

Hmmm, this is a hard one because some of my all time faves--like Richard Burton--have given some pretty bad performances (if you want to see Burton at his most hilarious worst checkout the 1977 stinker EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC). Even Lawrence Oliver gave some pretty hammy awful performances (ie INCHON, THE BETSY & THE JAZZ SNGER--but then again who could act opposite Niel Diamond & not go bonkers).

Here's who I think is always great even if they're sometimes in lousy flicks:

. Julienne Moore
. Emma Thompson
. John C Reily
. Harvey Keitel
. Laura Linney
. Ewan MacGregor
. James Cagney
. Katherine Hepburn
. Hope Davis
. Samuel Jackson
. Elsa Lancaster
. Carole Lombard
. Nicole Kidman
. Robert Duvall

These aren't neccessarily my all time faves--but I can't think of one film where any of the above gave a truly wretched perforamce. I love watching Jack Nicholson, but old Jack has phoned it in on occasion. And lets not even talk about some of the embarrasments that the great Robert DeNiro has committed recently.

Ever seen Cool World ? That might change your mind. ;)

For me I'd have to say, in no certain order:

Edward Norton
Jack Nicholson
Lou Gossett Jr.
Angelina Jolie
Christopher Walken
Natalie Wood
Harrison Ford
Gene Wilder
Bill Murray
Forrest Whittaker
Robin Williams
Lawrence Fishburn

ick@nick cage

Mine are:

Jared Leto, Julianne Moore, Mark Wahlberg, Ed Norton, Robert DeNiro, Johnny Depp

There are more I'm sure but those are off the top of my head. Catherine Keener is a good one, as is John C. Reilly!

Al Pacino (Surprised no one posted him)
Johnny Depp
Benicio Del Toro
Robin Williams
Edward Norton
Kevin Spacey
Robert DeNiro

oh the names of notorious films that come to mind when reading all these lists...;) That doesn't mean they aren't good lists...since no one's had a flawless career. Example: Tom Hanks - Bonfire of the Vanities anyone?

just a few to add:

Sean Penn
Michael Douglas
James Woods
Tobey Maguire
Robert Downey Jr.
Denzel Washington
Jodie Foster
Audrey Hepburn
Philip Seymour Hoffman
Robert Duvall
Jeff Bridges
Meryl Streep
Steve Martin
Mel Gibson
Kevin Kline
Jack Lemmon
Joan Allen

Just to add some more :)

Sigourney Weaver
Emma Thompson
Judy Davis
Christian Bale
Ralph Fiennes
Shirley MacLaine
Kate Blanchette
Ian McKellen
Alan Cumming
Gene Hackman
Ron Pearlman
Sidney Poitier
Clint Eastwood
Jude Law
Joaquin Phoenix
and Haley Joel Osment :D

the best one: Robert De Niro
and other ones:
Walter Mathau (sp)
Jack Lemmon
Al Pacino
Johnny Depp
Donald Sutherland
Harvey Keitel
John Travolta
Mel Gibson
Sandra Bullock
Gwyneth Paltrow
Sam Elliott

Thats all I can think of at the moment, I will add more later, if I think of any.

Willem Dafoe
Ed Norton
Al Pacino
Daniel Day-Lewis
Angelica Houston
William H. Macy
Steve Buscemi
