For you Kubrick fans.

Stanley Kubrick is one of my favourite directors and one of films greats. Was wondering what your opinion is of his greatest film.
I couldn't go past Clockwork Orange or The Shining. Opinions anyone....

I'm a huge Kubrick fan.

Hard question though. Clockwork Orange is up there, but my all-time favorite is 2001.

Greatest? That's tough - considering he made great films from so many different genres, it's hard to compare. But if I had to choose, I'd say 2001 - very closely followed by Clockwork Orange and Dr Strangelove.

Its a toughie becausd the best is certainly 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, but my fave is BARRY LYNDON.

I've seen only a few, but I would go with Dr. Strangelove, or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. "We must keep the Communist people, the Communist government, the Communist conspiracy, from sapping and impurifying, our precious bodily FLUIDS!"

^one of the greatest lines of movie dialogue ever (the actual wording being):

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room."

apologies for correcting but if you're going to quote...

i particularly enjoyed 'Eyes Wide Shut' which people seemed to love or hate. it's luscious.

Damn i forgot about Barry Lyndon. Alasdairm that is one of films great lines. I also agree that 'eyes wide shut' was a brilliant film and very under-rated. I was one of the only people who felt it was a good film, most of my friends hated it.

I knew it was wrong but i couldn't remember the correct wording.

Thanks for the correction.

Hands down, Dr. Strangelove.

George C. Scott and Peter Sellers are unbelievable in this film.

i didn't mean to come off like a school teacher.

i recommend the awesome Internet Movie Database in cases like these. it surely is one of my favourite websites.

This thread should have a poll listing all the kubrick flicks *cough* moderator please make one *cough*. My pick is 2001: A Space Odyssey.

yay! which is the best Kubrick-directed movie?

the poll limits the choices to 10 so i used his 10 most recent films. hope that makes sense.

I wonder what A.I. would have been like if Kubrick had retained control over it. I will always consider Speilberg's Disney-esque, fairy-tale, schlocky bastardization of that movie to be one of the great filmworld crimes of the century.
