Ok this is my second post. First one was in introductions and I managed to mess that one up so here goes.

I have been on Oxycodone for a couple of years now. Im on the plain 5mg ones. With no fear of the icky APAP in what my doc used to give me, ive been steadily upping my dose to get the mmmmmmmmm feeling back. Now im at 80mg a day (up from 40mg last month). This sucks because im running low (about a 5 day supply) and have 2 weeks to go until i get more. Granted- for many people, 80 mg of plain oxycodone in a day isnt much but Ive went thru cold-turkey withdrawl once before and I didnt care for it.

I happen to have like 65 or so Morphine extended release (15mg) from my doc trying to get me on something last longer for my pain.

So, I think I have 3 options but I welcome any others. Should I (A) detox using lopermine for a week then back to my regular 40mg daily dosage (B) switch to my morphine stash for a week or so (C) ween myself down to 40mg and save my morphine to get me by until my next months supply gets here.

Apperciate the advice.

PS Was also wondering how long roughly it takes the brain to recover from extended opiate use. Im curious to know about how long without using opiates I would be getting the mmmmmmm feeling from a lower dosage.

Thanks much!

How bad is your pain? You really shouldn’t withdraw cold turkey, which is awful, especially with your pain symptoms. If this was me, I would not withdraw using a detox method.
I’m not going to preach to you about abusing your drugs for the “mmm feeling”; you already know that technically it’s a bad idea.

You’re in a predicament:

1. You have physical pain problems that will get worse with opiate withdrawal symptoms.

2. You have a limited supply and are not aware of how your doctor will continue your pain management regiment; preferably, you could get him to up the dose of whatever opiate he writes, but that’s not the easiest job. You obviously need more if you’re only getting a 5 day supply. Is the 5mg. oxy for breakthrough pain?

3. You need to get on the 40mg. dosage again, I really think that would be best, but this limits the mmm feeling.

Therefore, with all of this in mind, I would simply stagger your dose for the next two weeks, and perhaps spend two weeks getting high and two weeks dealing with it, e.g. taking the lowest dose to function normally. It takes a lot of self-control to not get high during those two weeks though.

Option C or some derivative of it until next month’s supply. Basically, I would not suggest for you to withdraw since you’re indicated for oxycodone and morphine; obviously, you must hurt even if you have exaggerated your symptoms to your pain management doctor.

I would think, if the extended release works, that taking two of those daily, and not eating any oxycodone should lower your tolerance enough to get high and avoid withdrawal symptoms which I don’t think are advisable for anyone, but yes, the less you dose the higher you get.

It’s really not a good game to play, but you know this. I’m giving you harm reduction by telling you not to withdraw man. It would also take a lot of self-control, again, not to eat any pills when you’re detoxing with loperamide.

Good luck!

I need a complete shoulder replacment as well as major knee surgery. Due to the risks involved in the surgeries (malformed joints) as well as infection risk due to previous surgeries I refused the surgeries. I use 2 knee braces and a cane to walk and have the gimpy license plate that gets me all the good parking spots. I cant work per orthopedic specialists so my day consists of watching tv and playing on the computer. I think it would be good to get back on the 40mg dose as you suggested. I agree 2 weeks on 2 weeks off is not the ideal way to go. I think I will try using the morphine I have and limit the oxy for breakthru pain. I dont really want to ask my doc for an increase in the amount or mg as that is drug seeking and I dont want to get cut off. Its a cycle though- take enough to be pain free (and get the euorphic mmmmm effect) but doing so builds up tolerance and hence im up to 80mg lol. Guess there is no easy way to feel good without building up tolerance.

ps- forgot to mention ,y doc cancelled the morphine per my request. I had too many intestinal problems on it and it didnt work very well for pain relief anyways. He had me on 45mg of the extended and it was only like half as effective as the oxy.

Ya you should slow down. Your deffinedly going to experience some withdrawl as it is.
