Magnesium??

I was just wondering...
Is the magnesium "hot shot" sometimes given via IV to patients before an operation, the same thing as magnesium salts like epsom?
And is the point of giving Magnesium to patients something to do with muscle cramps?
Just curious, I guess...

Can't say I have ever heard of a "hot shot" of magnesium....And yes, magnesium can ease muscle cramps as it plays a role in the relaxation of muscles.
