Sextasy - New rave drug??

Maybe I've really been out of the lingo for a while or something? But I was just reading Mike Carlton in the Sydney Morning Herald, and in the "quotes of the week column" was this:
It gives a chemical delusion of intimacy but you still don't know their name in the morning. - A user of the new rave drug Sextasy
???
Is this a reference to GHB or something?
A mate who is ummm a lad I would guess you would say told me that he could get a drug called "sextasy" that was a combination of ecstasy and viagra, though that was probably about a year and a half ago.
Considering that in my opinion he knows about as much about drugs as I do about keeping pet rhinoceros', I didn't believe a thing he said, but was he actually telling me the truth???
I've been raving a fair while now, and know most of what tends to go on, but I can't say that I know any ravers who use sexstasy, at least as far as I know? Maybe I should ask around...Though I realise it could just be the "rave scene" being falsely amalgamated into the "drug scene"...
But anyway, my point is what is it?? And is it on the rave scene and have I just been left behind :) ??

... but you still don't know their name in the morning...
Umm isn't that called alcohol. C'mon we've all done it, woken up next to someone in the morning and had to check their mail to find out their name.

It ain't no rave drug. This strikes me as plain & simple proof that the media sometimes associate drugs with the rave scene on very little evidence. This drug is made for sex... Not socialising, music or dancing.
Read the link *HappyApple* posted for all the info :)

The link page above states GBL = 4OH-2-furanone. These are different chemicals (check above link for picture)
It is quite possible 4OH -2-furanone could be metabolised into GHB or another active metabolite.
Several G analogues have been shown to have higher affinity for binding with GABA receptors, but from what I can find, all mentioned produce less of the desirable effects.
When looking at commercially available chemicals which can either be metabolised or easily converted chemically into GHB, it would appear the list is almost endless, and many have yet to be mentioned.

I read the quote in an article on this website
Stuff: National News
last week. (I'm sorry but the article itself seems to have disappeared into the archives of the site)
Anyway, the article was referring to the combination of ecstacy and viagra, which apparently is becoming popular amongst some circles in New Zealand. (Although I've never encountered anyone taking it).

There is no new drug called sexstacy. It's just a term that looks great in headlines that has been coined recently by some enterprising journo out for an extra dose of sensationalism.
Sexstacy refers to the combination of Viagra with ecstasy, whether bought together from some clever dealer, or separately. It's a really common combination that gets around the problem many men have with getting or keeping erections when they're on E. Simply, the E gets you touchy/feely/horny and the Viagra enables you to get it up.
People who use this combination should be aware that the manufacturers of Viagra specifically warn against using Viagra in combination with CNS stimulants - which include "ecstasy" (MDxx), amphetamines and cocaine.
Viagra directly affects blood pressure. CNS stimulants raise blood pressure.
The risks are heart attack or priapism, which is a very painful erection that won't subside and can lead to permanent damage to the penis. Priapism requires surgery.
The usual dose for Viagra alone is around 25mg. There is a 25mg tablet, but most people are prescribed the 100mg tablet, which costs around the same price. If you're going to use Viagra, that means biting off about a quarter of this blue lozenge-shaped tablet. More viagra is not better - taking a whole 100mg tablet at once is more likely to lead to these problems.
Viagra is very easily obtainable by prescription from any GP. Rather do this and know how much you're taking than buy some bodgy combination from a dealer.
People with existing heart or blood pressure problems should be particularly careful about this combination of drugs.
Also avoid using amyl (poppers) with Viagra.
GHB often causes spontaneous erections, so I would imagine that using GHB with Viagra is also more likely to increase the risk of priapism.
:)

"Sexstacy Aphrodisiac" is a herbal formula sold in capsules. Main ingredient 4-OH-2-furanone. "Even better than Viagra. Just right for a quiet night in with the girlfriend. Brilliant sex for both, followed by a really good nights sleep."
Looks to be another case where a street term confuses. Yes it would seem sextacy means both a:
herbal /nutrient based pill containing 4-OH-2-furanone, the GBL like chemical.
mixture of viagra and MDMA

Ok I see, interesting.
I thought it might be something like this.
Well I'll be sure to let everyone know if I ever hear of it being used on the rave scene :)
I'm not sure you would want an uncontrollable erection for dancing though, it might get in the way, so I won't expect to hear about it for a while ;)

Three words.
"The Gay Scene"
:D

I saw this the other day note the large ammount of detailed resources that they use in the article. :)
SMH Sextacy article
Nothing like SMH to source out what is really happening in the world

Repeating again, just to make sure the message isn't lost:
1. SEXTASY = dangerous mixture of Viagra & MDMA.
Mixing central nervous system stimulants is dangerous and can result in elevated blood pressure, temperature and heart rate. Possible results of this combination are heart attack, stroke, death, priapism.
2. SEXTASY = herbal formula based on 4-OH-2-furanone.
This mixture of herbal substances is an aphrodisiac used to increase libido and augment the pleasure of a sexual experience.
Since this jargon has now been 'double booked' I think we need to make sure we're really clear about what we're discussing, i.e.,
"I found an article in the SMH about 'sextasy' (MDMA & Viagra) yesterday which..."
or
"Has anyone tried 'sextasy' (the herbal formula)? Is it any good?"
I gather since the media is jumping on the term Sextasy for the increasingly popular (and dangerous) mixture of Viagra and MDMA that we will hear this description a lot more often. In fact, the other definition will probably become the exception rather than the rule. However, since the herbal formula is a brand name, they will probably attempt to capitalise upon this infamy.
BigTrancer :)

I know an older guy who used to mix MD and Viagra all the time... the only thing that seemed dangerous about that was the chance he could kill the woman he was with through exhaustion.
Some of the stories he had... eeek!!! haha.
Cheers

Thanks for tidying that up BT.
You can bet this will sell the commercial sextacy. I'd never heard of 4-OH-2-furanone being used in herbal/nutrient preparations before this and I might add that it has aroused some curiosity. It will be interesting to see how the TGA views it?
Gnome Raver, just imagine what this combo does for someone at 20 with similar enthusiasm but without erectile dysfunction! No wonder women have demanded a female equivalent ;)

Why do the media bother reporting on this. Personally I think it's just going to make people want to try viagra and xtc at the same time. They are pretty much just advertising it. It's the same thing as glass in pills, I bet it wasn't even around until some fucked up home bakers heard it on the radio and thought "shit we should give it a try!"
