Does anyone ever get the sensation of an electric shock going through their body just before they get to that point where they are gonna fall asleep. I have been partying for almost 5 years now and recently have had these experiences where I will be lying down about to fall asleep and a jolt will go through my body...almost feels like an elctrical charge...it happened about 5 times one..each jolt about 2 minutes apart and each one lasting about 2-8 seconds. The most severe one was today...was lying down eyes close and had a severe jolt of energy like a zap and then i saw a bright white light (my eyes were closed). Was quite strange seeing as I haven't gone out or had anything since last weekend....
any ideas of whats happening to mah bodeh?

Yep, everyone does.. Specialy the weed smokers out there! :) ... Sort of like a cold shiver but not.
Twitching is more fun when someone else is in bed with you.. If they have the twitches to, then you can relay the twitches between each other... Like a chain reaction :)
Now im talking crap..
Chem

I am not a dope smoker though....they are more then twitches....i get a buzzing sound in my ear as it comes on and the buzz gets intense as the jolt passes....its like a get hard core pins and needles too...sensations all over my body...it actually feels like an electric shock

It could be a condition known as sleep paralysis, your symptoms sound like it. Do a search on it in the Drug Discussion 2000, the topic came up something in 2001. Will try and see if i can provide some links later as i'm kind of rushing for time now.
By the way, the frequence of my experiencing SP increases after each pilling session
Take care! =)
Found the link, there you go!

Yeah, sleep paralysis was the term I've been trying to think of... definitely sounds like that...
Run a search in Health Q&A as well... there's tons of stuff on the board on this subject. :)

hehhehe thanks for the response guys....but I also get sleep paralysis and this feels different. This sensation only last like 2-5seconds and can happen while i am awake...when i get sleep paralysis its usually when i have just fallen asleep.... sleep paralysis usually only happens 2-3 days after i have had a big weekend...these sensations of being 'zapped' have come on out of the blue..and at random times during the week when i am lying down about to fall asleep.

We used to call this the dreaded 'brain buzzes'.
Although I don't agree with this being termed a sleep paralysis. Why?
There was a stage early last year, coming off a major run of MDMA use, where I was getting these so regularly (every time I went to sleep) that I got to a stage where I was too frightened to go to sleep. I found the sensation scary and rather uncomfortable. I went to a docter, then to a specialist and had a CAT scan of my brain. Fortunately a, I had no holes and b, no conclusive answer was given to my condition. Fortunately it cleared and I have not had the problem since.
I thought I'd just add this one to the discussion.

I get it after too much G or a long G session (ie one that lasts pretty much all day)
For me its a really quick zap, around half a second...

I've had the condition once. It was after a couple of days of partying and I couldn't sleep, and G was helping and it really freaked me out a bit. I went to a doc to gave me valium which settled me down amazingly.

Thanks for the feedback guys.....i dont think it occurs often enough to warrant seeing a doctor....but it can be scary at times....i hope it passes and doesn't become a frequent occurance.

I'm actually a little releived, altho I still feel it probably isn't a good thing, that other people also suffer from this. About a year ago when I wasn't leaving much of a break between missions I'd get this on occassion mid week after a roll.
That short zap just as you feel your about to fall to sleep, so you instantly wake up. I also got an almost phobia of falling asleep as the 'zap' could be a little worrying and slightly unpleasant.
But know I have at least 6 week breaks between drops, preload/postload, keep myself extemely healthy and fit and never really have much more than a one pill session. I find my sleeping is perfect now. My head feels a lot clearer than it did early last year too.
Would be interesting to know what causes it, I can only imagine a shortage of seratonin or something related.

I had an incredibly hard core episode of "brain buzzes" anout seven years ago.
I've been a pot smoker for the last fifteen years but this was after a six month period of hardcore wake 'n bake all-day caning.
They hit and they hit hard and really did have that TENSION-RELEASE!! twisted sensation you associate with electric shock. I was freaked...
I've had them on and off ever since from the hard-core mother scratcher ones that make you stand up and walk round 'cos you're so freaked out, to little shocks while falling asleep or driving and I put them down to... wait-for-it... bad posture.
Pot smokers posture let's heaps of tension biuld up around the neck and cranium and can sometimes feel like hands on your skull. It's really common when driving/ concentrating... how often do you find yourself slouched forward while stoned and driving or watching tv? This bad posture seems to really bring them (the shocks) on (oh, and nangs too but being a big old amplifier nangs just turn up the volume on how you're feeling anyhoo)
they suck but you can't get older without developing a few creaks.

God Damn... i thought only got strange shit like this. It first happened after being up a good 60 hours and takign my fair amount of pills and speed and the rest. Its like a electric charge that use to run through my head and then sorta "buzz" and everything would just sorta freeze and i would twitch. I too was sooooo scared to sleep after that and it serioulsy made me think i had some serious damage then. It had happened some other times once with me waking up through the night twitching like mad and since then it hasnt happened at all. When it was happening i more using XTC as opposed to speed after and now only moderate speed use.

Folks please for your own sake hit that search button, type in the words 'electric shocks', choose the Medica Q & A forum (NOT the Archive) and have a good read through the posts there. You may be (un)pleasantly surprised.

TRANCEPLANT don't stress, i get EXACTLY the same things you're talking about, especially if i'm heaps tired and have been smoking pot all day after a big weekend or big night out.... it's a pain in the ass, i hate the feeling, scares fuck outta me, but used to it now. Don't stress over it. It's quite normal!

Thanks for all the replies...not stressin no more...wasn't really stressed in the first place...just needed to know if others experienced or knew of these brain buzzes.... :D
thanks...you guys rock ;P
take care

BUMPMEK: I don't think you can say they are quite normal at all.
This sort of effect is seizure-like activity. You can get petite-mal type seizures where you are fully consious and know what is going on, which is quite an unpleasant experience. This disposition, and continued drug use can lead to full blown grand-mal seizures, adult developed epilepsy etc.
Guys, do that search I left instructions how to do a couple of posts up. This question has been asked quite a few times in the Medical Q&A forum with a lot more relevent replies than 'don't worry about it'

LOL i used 2 think it was only me that got that buzzin feeling , i used 2 be an everday pot smoker and i found myself getting that feeling everytime i smoked , the feeling was like electicity running through my whole body and it would scare the shit outta me but i got used 2 it.
i recon u just need 2 quit the pot ,thats what i did and the feeling has disappeared

this has happened to me too (i dont if it matters but i smoke pot every night)
not muc, just once or twice, i had a night or two when i had several of them (like 2,3 or 4) in one night...
but they have only been after Huge weekends... i dont go out that much like 1 or 2wice a month,
you'd semi feel the buzz coming on... then like WHAM i got like a jold up your whole body and like a white flash in my eyes
scary
then i had a cone to try knock me out
but i got another one... then i calmed down got a drink relaxed and it was ok
i wonder what causes it...
