amyl nitrite in oz

does anyone know what the legal status of amyl nitrite is in australia?
i know its illegal to sell over here, but what about possession?
And what would happen if i tried to order some in from overseas?

I think you can actually buy some kind of imitation "amyl" in sex-shops. It's a similar volatile liquid which isn't quite as strong, I remember Biscuit posted the names of the substitute compounds recently, I'll try to dig it up.

yep... amyl nitrite is illegal, and the stuff in the sex shops is the imitation stuff... still all good though...

Amyl nitrite is (or was) used as an antidote for cyanide poisoning. Years ago in New Zealand you could buy over the counter, cards of small glass ampoules, as it was common to own a licence to cull possums by poisoning (then selling the skins). You'ld break these in a handkerchief under the nose and sniff. Hardly surprising, it was common to hear about mild cases of suspected poisonings.
This stuff was definitely different from the sustitutes sold in sex shops. The extra carbon in the chain makes all the difference, amyl being the pentyl form. In any form however, such inhalents are not on my personal preference list.
A point of warning if it hasn't already been been said. NEVER use Viagra with nitrite inhalants. Viagra inhibits the enzyme responsible for detoxifying and eliminating the effects of nitrites / nitrates. Serious trouble could result from this combination, probably from effects on the heart.

Not only is amyl vastly superior; the extra carbon also means that its volatility is somewhat reduced.
We knew someone who made it (with the right chemicals its embarrassingly easy) and our bottles would go off (a few months) before even half evaporated.
People who get sex shop "amyl" would know it evaporates and disappears so easily; and consequently u become very selfish with it
(not us though; although that could be a bad thing; many a time my friends turned into amyl fairies at events; dropping people left, right and centre.)

The best Amyl that l have found in the sex shops in Sydney is the bottle that says Xtra Strong on it.
Anyways, l think that it's around $35 or $40 a bottle...and by far the strongest....as the name says on the bottle.
It blows the Gold and Tom's out of the water big time.

Yeah more commonly found in sex shops. However, and I don't recommend it, some of the derivatives are can be found in HMV and Sanity. Wait for it... It can be found in the CD Cleaning products. A friend pointed this out to me that some cd-cleaning companies used Butyl-nitrite in their stuff.
As I said don't try it because it's obviously mixed with other stuff. But there is another piece of arguably useless information out there in the ether.

ummmm. I would recommend not sniffing the CD-cleaners. Trust me.

Get it from the sex shops. It might not be the real deal, but CD-cleaner it aint!!!
