im looking more for advice than support, but i want to tell my story also

about 3 weeks ago i went to the ER and was diagnosed with epididymitis and given cipro and norcos for the pain. 3 days later when i was out of pain medicine i couldnt get in to see my regular doctor so i went to the local walk in clinic, was given doxycycline and more pain meds, 3 days later same thing so an ultrasound was ordered (talk about awkward) everything came back normal and i was referred to a specialist as well as given avelox and prednisone and more hydros.

long story short the avelox/prednisone combination FUCKED ME UP in that i was in pain all over, called the doc and was told go to the ER, which i couldnt do for a few hours, discontinue medication unless i get to feeling better. i did and finished the course of both medications with problems increasing everyday but the epididymitis improving with each day.

it is now a week later and i have been tested for things like lupus but no diagnosis made. i have evidence of widespread tendonitis as well as nerve damage, but my regular doc, a pediatrician, wont prescribe "adult" medication without consulting with a specialist first. she prescribed indomethacin, which helps with joint pain but nowhere near enough and doesnt touch muscle/tendon pain or nerve pain. my only reason for keeping her as my doctor is she does seem to genuinely care but im getting frustrated with being treated like a 5 year old

my question is how do i go about getting stronger medication? im only 17 but have been prescribed scheduled medicine on a few different occasions. im strongly considering just asking to see a different doctor, but have no idea what to do as far as asking for pain medication at my age without looking like a drug seeker

Hey dude sucks so bad you have what could be chronic pain at such a young age..

Doctors weigh up the potential of getting you addicted to powerful drugs against you being in pain all the time...

Me personally, i know what it's like living with pain that others cannot relate to so i'd hit up another doctor man.

If i were a doctor i'd be hesitant to script you something like hydrocodone indefinantly, due to your age and addiction potential, perhaps going in with a parent and explaining that any pain medication would be dispensed by parents..

From their perspective, they probably think your pains not that bad and that you just want drugs obviously, going in with a parent and having the doctor have full knowledge that shes not just giving a bottle of opioid to a kid you know.

And you may think its corny, but i think your parents should dispense those kind of meds to you anyway man. Not judging you, but opioids have a way of just, MAKING YOU FALL IN LOVE with them....

I dont know man, it's going to be hard, but you must keep trying if you're genuinely in need of the drugs, bringing in a parent will greatly increases doctors confidence that said medications wont be abused..

However if your pain isnt that bad and you want drugs think long and hard...... Opioid addiction is a slut.

thanks i appreciate ur thoughts. i have had a parent with me and id be lying if i said i didnt enjoy opiates, and when the infection wasnt that bad i did abuse them. but this just fucking sucks, i recently quit smoking weed so im not too worried about getting high anymore no matter what the drug, but i do think that would be a good idea. ill talk to my mom when i go home about it and tell her i honestly need something and ask for her assistance.

again i really appreciate it, this isnt exactly the type of thing im all that comfortable talking with friends about, but they do know something is going on. ill post any results to this thread because its always nice getting others opinions

Try Kratom, it's easy to find reliable vendors online that sell it for good prices.

Fuck kratom man, try and get something legit and pure, that you can effectively dose, just bring your mother to your appointments and keep looking man, the right doctor will be out there.

Like i said though, bringing in parents can possibly make or break whether you will be scripted narcotic medication at your age, im surprised that you even got any before man.

If that were australia you would be lucky to get 30mg codeine tablets, over here doctors consider 50mg tramadol tablets to be hardcore.. We have nothing inbetween codeine and oxycodone except fucking tramadol, which is probably less effectively for anelgesia than codeine in my personal experience... But where as you guys have hydrocodone, we dont for some silly reason.

But yeah fuck kratom dude, last resort maybe lol.

shifting from Homeless to Other Drugs (possibly more suited to TDS though, mods your call :))

In the interest of controlling your pain and preventing abuse, have your parents hold all of your pain meds and give them out.

This arrangement might also make your doctor more comfortable looking at other options.

How much time passed since you stopped taking moxifloxacin? You were scheduled to continue treatment with two very similar antibacterial drugs that are known to cause symptoms of lupus that in most cases resolves themselves after stopping the treatment. I'm not saying this is your case but this may be one of the reasons doctors don't want to put you on any narcotic drug. I actually understand that and I can't see anything strange in this process that they don't want to give you hydrocodone. Actually, I would really consider weaker drugs than hydrocodone but it seems hydrocodone is good for everything in the U.S. (side-note).

If this continues, I agree with the others having your parent with you is probably the best convincing factor for a doctor that whatever drug you're prescribed won't be abused. 17 is a terribly bad age to get involved into narcotics, it doesn't compare to weed 1/3 do at 14 now...

you need to pray that you dont end up with chronic pain as your gonna have a horrible time getting any doc to write long term narcotics at that age. If this continues and the pain gets out of hand I would look into getting on methadone maintenance as this may be your only option for pain control though its a drastic and shitty option it is better then living with pain.

How's he going to get on methadone maintenance if he's not even an addict?

Adder - maintenance as in "pain maintenance" not "addiction maintenance"

Dude, good thing you quit weed and don't do any street drugs either! Chances are about 80-20 you'll get a piss test IF you get to see a pain doc. If you have any illicit drugs in your urine, you will get bumpkus, nada, jack-shit.

I gotta agree with others though: you need to think long and hard about this! You need to be totally real with yourself and totally honest as well. If you really have the pain, then you are going to have to deal with it realistically, and other than a very mild buzz if you are lucky, forget about getting high on it. Or, you'll end up on a dead end street before you know it. And God help you if you get really hurt in car accident or have to have major surgery-- it'll be an absolute bummer. (Check out some chronic pain forums and you'll see what I mean.)

Sorry, we're backward here when it comes both to pain treatment with opioids and to helping addicts. I know people who just died almost begging for help but it was the system that killed them.

Pediatricians don't like to rx narcotics, but i have a feeling a MALE doctor would be more understanding of the pain you are experiencing than your female doctor.

Turbonegro, this is what you do: This a problem for a urologist. I know, cause i had the same thing "epididymitis" at the age of 23! See a Male urologist ..i am sure you can find one. You can bring a parent. I did, but my father would wait in the waiting area. The antibiotics won't work.! They did not work for me. My doc was cool, and understood i was in pain so he wrote a scipt for hydros. You can also get shots near your groin and or right into the epididymitis gland. I did this as well, and it helped somewhat. After seeing this doc for a few months i told him the tylenol in the hydros was making me sick, and could he write something without tylenol. Remember this is way back in 95' and oxycontin was new and thought to be tamper proof. So he wrote oxycontin 20mg twice a day, and another drug that helped the pain more than the oxy "Valium".! To get to my main point: This is a very painful condition. ..you know all about it every time you get up to walk ..how bad the pain is.!! You should have no trouble getting some kind of pain meds from a urologist. Just don't be stupid with them. Be Honest and tell your doc how much the pain meds helped you to get through your day with some comfort. ..and when your done seeing the urologist and still have pain ..just see a pain management doc ..they are everywhere.! Send me a private message if you want to know more about the problems you will have ahead of you with epididymitis. ....Rx

this is a genito-urinary problem so a specialist should be able to help. and prescribe CII or CIII meds if necessary- but i can understand the reasoning for saying no to someone so young. If you get hydro now and it's chronic, you could end up with terrible trouble finding ANYTHING to kill the pain when you're older.
