My Experiences With DPT

PART 1: The First Meeting
This is a three part summery of my three full dose DPT experiences. I find this tryptamine most intriguing in that it consistently produces an intense fear reaction every time I take it. In spite of that, I have never had a "bad trip" on DPT, or any psychedelic for that matter. I have always had something meaningful come from one of those types of experiences. DPT is the only tryptamine I have sampled, other than psilocybin/psilocin. I was initially attracted to the substance after reading of several experiments conducted with DPT on terminal cancer patients. Most of the patients who received DPT reported having a peak experience that helped them accept their death in a positive fashion.
I chose 100 mg up the nose this time, after a previous botched oral DPT/MAOI experiment. It was about 5:30 in the afternoon. Before my experiments with DPT, I had the silly belief that I would always be able to handle the effects of a psychedelic, no matter how uncomfortable it might become. Having recently survived several ridiculously heavy-dose solo 2C-T-7 trips (one at 70 mg), I thought I could take just about anything. DPT put me right back in my proper place.
The first time I took DPT, it took about 15 minutes for the effects to really begin. It was a little uncomfortable during the onset, so I decided to take a walk outside to become one with nature. At first, I just found myself trying to analyze what the DPT was actually doing to me. I found the visuals interesting. Nothing colorful or mind blowing like LSD or 2C-T-7, but the world was definitely churning and active. It produced good trails, and reminded me of a somewhat toned down LSD. As I continued walking, the effects grew alarmingly intense, and I decided to turn around and head home. I was experiencing the intense body vibrations that I had heard DPT could produce, and noticed I was breathing strange, almost like I was struggling to catch my breath. I was alarmed because I could not tell if I was imagining this problem, or I was actually having a negative physical reaction to the DPT. It was also very hot outside, and I felt like I might pass out any minute. It seemed like it took me forever to get home, I just felt like a mad man roaming the streets.
When I made it in, I went to my bedroom and put on some music. This was about 6:15. All at once, a hole was punched between the boundary that normally separates my psyche from the outside world/universe/God and I experienced the DPT peak. I was swept into a classic +4 indescribable mystical experience. What could be better than to push further with a dose of nitrous oxide? Nothing, so I did it and that's where the trouble started.
The nitrous trip itself was blissful as always (nitrous + a psychedelic is my FAVIORITE artificial experience) but when I returned, the DPT effects were out of control and down right frightening. The only thing I was experiencing was classic unadulterated fear that rivaled the fear I experienced during my best (and most frighteningly earth-shattering) LSD trip. It almost reminded me of things I had read about 5-MeO-DMT, except the effects were not over in five minutes and I was having visuals. There was nothing I could do to talk myself down, no matter what I tried. I was so uncomfortable, I had to call my friend W to come over and rescue me. That had never happened before. He said when he saw me, I looked like a scared child. Soon after W arrived, around 7:00, I was no longer frightened. I just needed someone who could help get me grounded. After that, I enjoyed the waning effects of the DPT. By 9:00, I was pretty much baseline. I was completely stunned by the experience and left in a state of awe. In the space of just three hours I had a trip that brought me to God, the Devil and back.
PART 2: The Rematch
I foolishly decided to sample DPT again, in the same 100 mg dose, soon after my first experience with it. I could not understand why I freaked so bad and I wanted to examine the effects again. I also had become preoccupied with the astonishing nature of the experience itself and desired to go back.
It was midnight when I took the powder up my nose. The effects came on sooner than they did the first time, probably because I knew what to look for. I started to feel the panicky sensations again, so I put on some pleasing music…The Concert for Bangla Desh by George Harrison, with Bob Dylan and others. The music was beautiful and intense. In fact, it was so intense it almost sounded distorted. I was experiencing quite a rush from the effects, and it actually reminded me of Salvia divinorum. I found my hands raised up to the sky during "A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall" by Dylan and the hole between the boundaries of the universe and myself opened up as it did before. But that heavenly experience only lasted for a second. My feelings of bliss were soon replaced with fear like I have never felt before. It is a complete understatement to just say I was totally wigging out. No, I was having a hard core freak-out. There was no insight, no profound sensations, just fright. The music I was listening to suddenly started sounding like it was being sung by pure evil, so I threw the headphones off my head faster than I actually thought about doing it. I was in a total state of chemical psychosis. This was about 12:45.
Back when I was a stupid teenager, I experimented with Freon a few times. The DPT was now producing roughly the same effects; it was an altered state of consciousness of unbelievable intensity that was completely indisputably EVIL. But this was 100 times worse than Freon, and Freon only lasted for a minute or so. Everything I looked at seemed poisonous, hideous, and evil to my eyes. Nothing I could do could make it better. Worse, I was by myself and there was no one who I could call for help without having to wake somebody up from a sound sleep. Even more worse, I felt bad, and was embarrassed to have to depend on someone else for comfort as a result of my psychedelic material usage.
I took a shower to calm myself, but this only made it worse. Thoughts were running through my head at an uncontrollable speed. During the 1950's, psychedelic drugs were used as a possible tool for inducing a controlled state of psychoses. That is where I was, except this was uncontrolled and I was all alone in the middle of the night. I was experiencing every sensation of every bad trip I had read about. Then it really dawned on me; I did not even have a good reason for taking the DPT in the first place. I pretty much did it to just because of curiosity and disbelief over my first trip on it. I was not taking it to become one with God, or to expand my mind, I took it to see what would happen. Now as a result, the DPT was giving me the biggest psychedelic ass kicking of my life. At the time, I believed I was having my first bad trip.
I got into the fetal position in a corner and was determined to ride the trip out. But sitting there was like sitting with an active electric chord in your mouth, one could only take so much. In an attempt to ground myself, I tried to log onto the Internet as a form of communication with the outside world, but it did not help. Finally, around 1:30 AM, I decided to call someone for help. I felt so bad to have to bother someone this late, but I had to do what I had to do. For some reason, I called my out-of-town ex-girlfriend for comfort but she did not answer. My situation was desperate, and I almost felt like my life was hanging on the line. I needed to talk to someone. I also called a few local friends, but no one answered their phone. I had never felt so helpless in my life.
Around 2:00 AM, I finally started coming down. Gradually, the state of constant fear and panic was interrupted by brief moments of light. Eventually, the light took over with only brief interruptions of panic and fear. I eventually fell asleep around 4:00.
While most people would consider this to be a bad trip, it was far from that. Before that happened, I had lost my respect for psychedelic drugs. Not only had I started to believe I would never "loose my shit" like I did, but I was also doing a lot of tripping for the sake of tripping. Though I see nothing wrong with the occasional recreational experience, I consider a psychedelic trip to be somewhat of a holy experience and I had not been treating it in that manner. This trip forced me to respect these tools in a way I used to, but had not in a long time.
PART 3: The Expectance
It was several weeks before I decided to return to DPT, and I felt real positive about my decision. I waited for the right set and setting to be available for me before I would return. This time, I had a babysitter for the entire experience, and I chose to take it outside in nature. It was around 10:00 PM, and we found a nice spot in the woods by a river. The surroundings were beautiful. I took 100 mg of DPT by way of nose. My friend B used no DPT, but he had a small amount of liquor. Within 10 minutes, the usual fear reaction I have to DPT crept in. I sat up, with my head between my knees. B asked me if everything was O.K and I told him I was freaking again, and I would just have to ride it out. But my friend wanted to help me, so he started to guide my trip.
I have been the one who accompanied B on his first, and subsequent, psychedelics trips, so this was kind of his turn to help me out. Him being there and talking to me did not take any of the bad feelings away, but it helped me to bring forth good ones. It was amazing. At times, my sole existence was his words. Another way of saying that is my ego was the words he was saying, and nothing more. He told me all of the things I told him on his trips to help him out, and that brought forth the opening of the universe as happened on the other DPT trips. I remember remarking to B that I was experiencing utter terror and complete bliss at the same time. Take my word, it is incredible to experience two totally opposite emotions at the same time. I will never forget it. In addition, the DPT was causing me to have 100s of thoughts at once. I mean my mind was in overdrive. B actually said I looked fuzzy and he could feel and see the energy radiating from me. He could tell just from my appearance that I was having a very special experience. It was unbelievably intense.
Soon after that, I took a hit of nitrous oxide, and had the usual blissful experience. While I was out on my nitrous trip, B was watching me and as he later told me, "Things were happening to me that don't normally happen on alcohol."
B suddenly received a contact DPT trip. Our thought and minds were totally connected. He was even having visuals and remarked that the trees were melting in exactly the same way as they did on his first woodrose seed trip. He pondered on the current events of his life and began to have a spiritual experience. I was not too surprised, because I had heard of this happening before, but it was still amazing.
After the nitrous oxide, all traces of terror disappeared. I enjoyed the afterglow of the DPT peak, and the nitrous oxide trip. B and I continued to trip together, and we resolved a current conflict between us. We opened up to each in the manner MDMA is known for. I talked with him about personal elements of my life that I had previously only shared with one other person. It was a monumental moment for me.
We spent an hour or so talking besides the stream. I enjoyed the waning DPT effects and had some pleasant visuals. The leaves flowing by in the stream resembled alligators swimming down river that were completely submerged, other than the head. I also had some really nice trails on a cigarette, and the trees looked computer generated.
B continued to experience the DPT contact trip for some time. Eventually we parted ways, and B reported that his trip ended around this time. His contact trip was pretty amazing considering he even had visuals. I will say I looked at his pupils in the light, and they were dilated. Very strange. Even though I was tripping, I am certain of what I saw.
Well, my third DPT experience was one of the best trips I had in a long time. It felt so good to open up to B and talk about what was on my mind. I felt reborn, remade, and spiritually renewed after that night. I have learned that DPT is going to produce the fear reaction in me, no matter what. It is just the nature of the drug, for me anyway. Maybe, upon further experimentation, that will change. I will never forget freaking out, and having one of the most pleasurable experiences of my life at the exact same moment in time. DPT is a drug I have the up-most respect for, and it will always used in a respectful manner. No psychedelic has been more effective at instantly breaking down the boundaries between the universe and I as DPT. Please approach this tryptamine with caution. Although most of the reports on this drug I have read suggest my reactions to it were a little extreme, one never knows how they react to a drug until they take it.

Sounds pretty intense....
I just can't believe that you went back a 2nd (then THIRD!!!) time...
..but then again.. I suppose I hated acid the first few times I took it and now I love it...
anyway... nice report... it was an interesting read.

MG:
My first non-acid/shrooms psychedelic was DPT....it certainly is a unique and interesting substance. Unfortunately, its peripheral nervous-system effects (extreme general agitation, tension, anxiety, and brain "washout") make high doses generally unrewarding. I've found it to be best in small step-up doses (5-10mg at a time) when smoked with weed. Under these circumstances you have more control over the intensity of the experience, don't need to deal with the lameness of snorting (IMHO), and it generally produces a mellower, less threatening high.
I'd describe DPT under these circumstances as adding a mushroom-like head trip and mild flowing distortions to the pot buzz. Done right, it can be no more difficult to handle than the pot itself.
Be careful out there! :)

Thanx for the advice superluminal. I have tried DPT in smaller amounts (20 and 40 mg.) It is nice but relativly unintersesting to me. I now look at DPT as the kind of psychedelic you do two or three times per year to really shake you out of your cozy little rut. I find other substances more pleasurable (LSD, 2C-T-X, morningglory/woodrose seeds) compared to DPT when they are taken in their lower dose ranges. Snorting things really does not bother me, but I am curious what smoked DPT is like. All I have is the HCL salt, and it is very wasteful to smoke that.

MG:
Smoked DPT is definitely different than snorting -- I'd say less of the body-slam come-up, mellower, and less body load. But then I generally smoke significantly less than I've done when snorted. I must say, I vastly prefer smoking; and it's at least as efficient (again, for me personally: YMMV) as snorting if you use a high-quality freebase pipe or vaporizer. Dusting pot helps keep the experience smooth, but is of course a little less efficient.
For me, DPT is more pleasant than the other tryptamines (LSA, LSD, Psilocin) I've tried. It has never worked when I ate it orally (including once when I tried MAO-inhibiting with high-dose passionflower); so there's a difference between them for me right there. I find that the more direct path to the brain -- through the lungs -- seems to work well. Of course snorting is almost as direct, but it just doesn't seem to be quite as pleasant for me that way.
The DPT I've seen smoked is mostly HCL, some ghetto-freebased by cooking in a spoon with baking soda and water, and some true pure freebase. The ghetto freebase is only slightly more efficient than the HCL, and the pure freebase perhaps slightly more still -- but, in the small sample of subjective reports I've seen/heard, rarely by a difference more than a quarter or a third stronger and often too little even to tell the difference.
My personal experience is relatively limited (I try to take it easy), but I've read pretty much every report available on the Internet (and I mean pretty damn close to every single one). I've sought out a lot of locals who've been using DPT, 2-CT-X and other "research chemicals" and squeezed every bit of information I can. It has led me to have a lot of opinions about them and psychopharmacology in general....

Knowing me, I will find out what it is like to smoke one of these days. I don't have the luxury of a vaporizer yet. Thanx for the input man, I appreciate it.

Oh, BTW:
Just as background to give my opinions about DPT et al perspective.... By and large the psychedelics I've seen from the black market are very poorly made and not delivered with very much understanding of the facts. Except for a couple of times, my dozens of experiences with LSD were with the same batch of very shitty blotter; it took up to 16 hits for me to have a serious experience (with some mild tolerance) and I took up to 24 hits over the course of a night once; I had a fair amount of tolerance, but even still it was barely scratching the surface. There were no true hallucinations, just a burnt brain, a carpet and walls that oozed like running water in slow motion, and 18 hours of my life wasted.
Mushrooms were even more of a waste more often than not; most that we got were not properly dried, moldy, and tended to just fry the mind with frightening intensity rather than give much in the way of an enlightening trip. Once or twice they were amazing and totally changed my perspective in a wonderful way, but those were as much chance and setting as the drug.
A few trips with morning glory extracts and similar LSA/LAA deliveries were nice but inconsistent and delivered too late; I had already developed an instinctive fear of the psychedelic state because of the repetitively unpleasant mushroom incidents that had preceded this.
After nearly a year off (except for a single middling LSD trip halfway through in the worst possible setting that came off OK but still not worth it), DPT and later 2-CT-7 changed the way I thought about psychedelics.
After all, these are incredibly complex and precise brain-interacting drugs we're talking about here; illegalization forces the creation of "underground" sources, which are by the gravity of crime dragged into taking profit as more important than quality or even safety as a general phenomenon. When one can utilize the pure form of the drug as produced by professional chemists who must adhere to strict standards in order to get their product sold to other professional chemists, you lose all of the baggage of impurity, risk of deception, and of course the bad karma :)

Well, because I have sworn off the black market, I no longer have access to LSD. I guess I am lucky because, except for a few occassions, I always got *respectable* (2-3 hits to trip good) LSD. Sometimes, I even got MINDBLOWING (1 hit is PLENTY) LSD. It looks like you have bad connections with it.
I never had the problem with mushrooms you had either. I don't make extracts with morning glory or woodrose because the nature of the experience seems different to me. I don't like it personally. I just eat the whole seed. I accept nausea as a part of the trip. I always fast and use cannabis so it really never bothers me. Actually, m.g/woodrose is one of my faviorites.
I totally agree with you though about having pure chemicals verses street crap. You are right on the money about karma.

Whoa!
I normally hang out on the main aussie boards and this is my first time round this forum. Much respect to m-g-s and superluminal for your informed and objective discourse. I sincerely wish that this level and depth of discussion took place on the MDMA boards.
Good on ya! (as they insist on saying down here

wow! what an amazing trip. that's about all i can say other than i really want to try this sometime.

This is an oldie but a goodie, recently suggested to be sent back to the main forum, and seeing that DPT is our Focus On.. why the hell not?! :)
Great reports!, although you went through some rough waves, you learnt from these experiences and I think thats what psychedelics are all about. Very interesting about the contact-trip too!

You make DPT sound like a psychedelic that is truly not a "toy". Your reports, although the first 2 sound frightening, have increased my interest in DPT.
I think I will start at 30mg though, rather than 100 and work my way up, to try to avoid the terror you described.
Thanks for posting this :) ... even though it was a long time ago, haha

Smart man to go with 30 mg. I used to be a lot more careless than I am now with psychedelics, and I would never advise anyone to just jump right in with a huge dosage like I did.
If your DPT is of excellent quality, 30 mg insufflated will actually provide you with a nice trip. If you are not naturally tolerant to this material, 30 mg may even provide you with a soft +3. I look foward to hearing of your experience Matt.

Two thumbs way up. Best written trip report I've read in ages :)

So I need some advice.
I have DPT in salt form (HCL). There are reports that the HCL is totally fine to smoke, and other reports that it's a waste of material.
Please post your own experinences so I do this correctly and not waste the compound.
Towards the One.
