CR Officer Injured When Anhydrous Ammonia Tank Pops

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A Cedar Rapids police officer suffered minor injuries when the valve popped on an anhydrous ammonia tank and sprayed him with some of the gas.

Officer Graham Campsure was assisting in a traffic stop early Thursday morning when police found items in the car consistent with making methamphetamine.

Police say Campsure saw a modified air tank and pulled the tank from the car. The valve popped on the tank popped and Campsure was sprayed with anhydrous ammonia that was in the tank. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

The driver, James Surrett, was charged with possession of cocaine, three counts of possession of precursors for making methamphetamine, and aiding and abetting the manufacture of methamphetamine.
