I'm new to the forum and have done a thorough search but can't find any answers. I have graduated to 100mgs of morphine, 75 mgs of oxycodone and 60 mgs of baclofen every 4 or 5 hours to try and control my pain. It BARELY takes the edge off. I wake up every 20-30 minutes in horrific pain and have to reposition myself. (I take 45 mgs of temazapam and smoke a joint before bed) My scripts are all legal and I have serious pain issues due to a shattered back.
I'm afraid to up the dose because at the level I'm currently taking, I get serious problems swallowing and slurring of my words although I don't get any sort of high at all from it. Shitting is also a MAJOR issue. Or non-issue since I never do it lol. I have parachuted the oc and plunged the morphine, it doesn't seem to make a difference.:| I'm thinking of changing my 30mg oxy to 4mg dilaudid and try those again to see if I can get a handle on this monster. Is that a good/bad idea? Oh I also get a spinal block once a month or so (takes the edge off for about 3 days, hardly worth the anesthesia risks as they knock me out to do it)

I'm over it!! What should I do?

i seriously doubt any more narcotics are going to help you. they're probably just going to make the side-effects worst. what type of pain is it? neuropathic? if so i'd talk to my doctor about other options, as there are some non-narcotic ones. if its not neuropathic, then thats fucked up that you still feel anything.

ask your doc about fentanyl if its not neuropathic, thats the only thing i can think of

I have 5 shattered discs in my lower back and titanium plates in my neck. I also have nerve damage.

I used to use fentanyl, I had the huge patches and it made me throw up 24/7. It did control the pain, but the side effects were a serious threat to my overall health.

Aren't there ways to work with that then, maybe? Maybe a lower dose and something for nausea? If fentanyl helped the pain, try to work with it!
Ive also noticed that doctors are prescribing methadone for pain around here lately, that might also be helpful not only for the pain, but for getting you off the other pills.

after the diet your on now it might not make you throw up anymore. its worth looking into

My doc always starts with the lowest dose and lets you work your way up until its controlled. I started with the little ones and ended up with the 75 mcg/hr (?) lesser doses did nothing for me. I was on something for the nausea but it didn't help. Everything seems to be a dead end and I really feel like If I have to live this crappy life on all these stupid drugs I'd rather not be around. I really appreciate you guys helping me! Thanks so much for giving me your time.

I do have one patch left from when I was on them. I'm afraid to have too much on my system before using the patch. How long should I wait after my last dose to try the patch? Should I stop both the morphine and oxy both? I know...these are all good questions for my doc, he gives me generic doctor answers, I rather ask someone with personal experience.

Hmm wish I was of more help. So are you already seeing a pain management specialist??

I'm gonna try it tomorrow as suggested. I do see a pain management doc, been seeing him for about 5 years.

if you still feel pain slowly up your dose on the other meds, but try it alone first. you obviously have a respectable tolerance but i wouldn't take full doses on top of the fent. good luck, hope it works out for you.

IMO I would NOT add any more meds to your regimen without your doctor's advance approval. Problems swallowing are an extremely urgent sign that you could be at dangerous levels.

You need to tell your doctor about the swallowing ASAP.

Miralax has been a "bathroom miracle" for me. (I am on morphine for pain). I suggest you ask your doctor about it. IMO you should NOT start any laxatives now until the "swallowing problems" are addressed with your doctor. If you vomit with swallowing difficulty, it can be dangerous. Laxatives can cause nausea and thats the last thing you need now.

Good luck!

Im not experienced with fentanyl, or a doctor, so I dont know if that advice is safe, but if you've been seeing a pain management specialist for over 5 years..jeez..whats their next course of action?

thats why i told her to take the fent alone first and to slowly up her dose, and not to take the full thing. this girl obviously has a tolerance, so there isn't much risk slowly increasing. if she took her full doses all at once she may have complications, but she can obviously handle herself.

That would be surgery. My insurance refuses to pay for it because it was an accident and I sued the other driver. Due to a shitty lawyer and my ignorance in legal matters we settled. I was under the impression we settled for the neck injury only, but it was the whole shebang. My auto insurance paid for my neck surgery. I guess my insurance would rather dish out a fortune in doc and med bills and let me suffer rather than pay for an operation that may cure the whole situation! The neck surgery was a total success.

yeah problems swallowing is a pretty serious complication related to CNS damage, but she already stated she has nerve damage, and judging by the neck and back, its her CNS. not much you can do other than hope for the best. if you develop twitches or stutters notify the doc immediately as the damage is getting worst.

edit* gastrointestinal problems as well

Never sugguest self-medication or abuse. Taking more narcotics then perscribed can make the situation hella worse. Narcotics aren't wonder drugs, and their more of a "mask" to pain. Do you have any options with implants or surgery?

she was prescribed the fucking patches before her current regiment. she can safely switch back as long as she doesn't take her other meds
