What up peeps. I know this is a very strange question to be askin but fuckit, BL is the spot for everythin strange right.

What Im lookin for is movies that contains the theme of pressure. To go deeper on that....

One example i can come up wit would be The Devils Advocate. In that movie, theres a battle between right and wrong goin on, and theres extreme pressure as the stakes get higher, forcin Keanu reaves and his wife to tear apart at the seams, as the money and fame and power rolls in, so does the intense internal struggle.

One that dont really fit quite in the same way, but got some similar themes is the movie Ray. Ray charles was just doin his thang and then got bigger and bigger, usin more and more of that hero'n, as his star was risin, his personal life was gettin strained and shit fallin apart while he gotta struggle to keep it together wit his record company, etc.

Another example even tho its on a show, is in The Sopranos when Christopher starts gettin deeper into his dope habit, while hes supposed to be gettin made, and got more and more responsibilities, but keeps shootin dope and fallin deeper and deeper into addiction while Tony and the family is expectin more and more of him as he's slippin.

Basically for some reason lately Im jus diggin these movies with the idea of somebody gettin pushed into this kinda world where everythin aint as it seems and while they seem to be flyin towards the stars on the inside they are walkin a fine line of crashin and burnin. Pressure to succeed, pressure to give in to a boss that promises to make you #1 but got ulterior motives, , pressure to become somebody they dont want to be but eventually end up becoming, shit with serious tension, high stakes. That kinda shit.

If any of yall can help me out wit some suggestions well ill be pretty thankful. I hope i could explain good enough what Im talkin about here, so god bless ya if you can understand me. Bonus points if the struggle and pressure causes the main character to turn to drug use or addiction lol. Well I hope somebody can help me wit this but I got a preminition that there will be a big "0" in the replies field of this topic for a while. Oh well.

Sounds like you are just looking for suspenseful films.
Some might disagree with me on this but Room 1408 I felt was a "pressure" film.
Falling Down
Vanilla Sky
Fight Club

I will have to think about this.

Maybe, I aint sure. aint suspense more like horror...Im thinkin. Aight, yall really gonna laugh at this, but i was at my boys the other day and he likes hockey so we had on the rangers vs islanders game. it went into some serious overtime at the end, so you know how that gets, it was a tie, and with every shot it just kept building up more and more, sending out more and more players to try and make the goal, but it went like 6 times and it was still a tie, and i was thinkin, that next guy they send out, got the whole game riding on him. and we had jus smoked massive amounts of weed so i was all up in my head analyzing and shit. And i was thinkin, these dudes, they got so much pressure on them. They get paid millions but they got to go out there and get that goal and the pressure to succeed is so high, if they do everyone loves them but the whole game is riding just on them, and when they go out there, the musics playin real loud like hypin everybody up, and its mad intense. They win, everybody loves them, they loose, shit might start to get fucked up. And how some people turn to drugs, or gamblin, or sex, or whatever, to escape this intense struggle and weight thats put on them,, and how people deal wit that in general, and how their life changes or suffers or whatever, based off the choices that they make. So i was thinkin damn those kinda general themes, reminded me of a couple parrallels with the whole "you got to choose" style of devils advocate, in a strange, stoned out, weird-associations way, and thats what gave me the idea of this thread.

Yea, suspense is part of it i guess, but the focus would be more on a main character whose conflicted inside their mind, with great expectations from the people around them while their struggle is eatin them up inside. like that movie half nelson, that i really didnt like much, but the idea of the dude havin this nice school life, where everyone thinks its allll good, and then bein out there alone smokin base all night long, is also part of it. That conflicting inner/outer life thing. Secret lives, with some pressure on top of it. Im sure that is waaaaay too specific for anyone to help me wit, so im kinda beat on this i guess. MAybe i will have to make my own movie of what I want to see. :)

Oh STFU youre no fun patrick. The wiseass strikes again.;) No , i wasnt lookin for heartwarming kiddie sports movies haha, i was jus postin that as the background idea, lol. I was thinkin tho, i seem to rememer this old movie called Rollerball from the 70s that i watched when i was a kid that had some similar themes.

Also , i think shit like goodfellas also vaguely fits in but i seen that a hundred times.

Hmm, it's definitely a tough one. But maybe try Pieces Of April.

In a very poor zone of New York, April Burns and her boyfriend, the Afro-American Bobby, are preparing to receive April's family for a thanksgiving dinner. While Bobby tries to borrow a suit for him, April realizes that her stove is broken and she tries desperately to find a neighbor that can let her cook the turkey, since she does not want to fail (again) with her family. Meanwhile, in a suburb of Pennsylvania, her dysfunctional family is preparing to travel to New York. While driving in the road, the relationship between the Burns and the black-sheep April is disclosed through the conversations between her father Jim, her resented mother Joy, her brother, her sister and her grandmother

This is a pretty sweet film actually.

Speed is rated rated R in America as well.

action movies:

speed
gone in 60 seconds
run lola run
blown away

actually, it sounds like you are talking about a whole category of films. "thrillers" to be exact, where the tension is high and they kinda keep you on the edge of your seat. here is a link to a list of the American Film Institute's greatest 100 Thrillers. There is bound to be some films there that meet your specifications.

If you mean more specifically, as in films that have a theme of someone who cracks under pressure a few that I can think of are:

The Aviator (great movie)
Walk The Line(Johnny Cash descends into drug use)
Permanent Midnight(dude cracks up and starts using hard drugs)
Boogie Nights(guy deals with the pressure of becoming a famous porn star)
Carlito's Way(ex drug-dealer tries to keep from getting back into the life after getting out of jail)
The Departed(two snitches, one working for the cops, one working for the mob, both go undercover)
25th Hour(guy gets busted for selling dope and its the story of his last few days before he is supposed to go to prison)
Basketball Diaries(if you haven't seen it, see it. It's the story of this group of friends in NYC who get addicted to dope)
He Got Game(kid deals with the pressure of being top-rated NBA draft pick right out of high school)

Well, that should get you started. :) I tried to keep with your theme of people who are facing enormous pressure, and trying not to crack under it (and sometimes failing). Many of them include drugs, some of them are based around drug use. I'm pretty sure that they match up to your description, but even if I have missed the mark on some, I still believe that each of these films is awesome in every possible way, and they should not be missed. Happy watching! :)

blown away, nice on pw. thats what i wast thinking of... but all i could think of were the words back draft...

YEAAAAAAAA PENNYY!! You got me there. Fuck yea. Exactly what im lookin for. I seen a couple of those, and they are right on as far as what im talkin about. Also WTF was that one I just seen? Fuck? Wit joaquin phoenix? As the club guy dealin wit the russians, and his dad gets killed by them? It was like a week ago and i forgot the name already lol. Yo, you get the prize for this one man. In-fuckin-deed.

Carlito's Way, The Departed, and 25th hour all sort of fall in with Goodfellas (which you mentioned) in that they are about gangsters and shit like that.

The Departed and The Aviator were both directed by Scorsese, in fact.

"We Own The Night." I was kinda disappointed by that one though.

Yea, that one was pretty lame in the end. it was weak, kinda a throwaway flick, but i mentioned it just more because i couldnt remember the name for shit.

LOL, you are teh winrar. Ima rent a shitload of em and see if they get here by friday. i got that dope ass blockbuster send em to your house thing , i loves it.

Also, ever seen Blood In Blood Out? the longest latino gangsta movie ever? lol. That ones pretty sick too, but it aint got that intense feelin im talkin about. Still a good flick tho.

Ima track down a giant list of this. I like watchin that kinda movie while im realy faded on dope. Walk the line is one of my favorites, cant wait to see it again.

Funny Games(the original)-Two crazed teens wanting to kill your family for fun. Tell me you wouldn't feel pressure.

Run lola run is a good one, yea i definately like that, but it way more lighthearted and it aint as serious , I aint gona lie, i like that epic shit lol. But man, ive watched that shit so many times while fucked up. good looks on that.
