I liked it quite a bit, i'm pretty sure there was already a thread and everybody else said they hated it.

Very effective,as far as creepy goes. Who knew that an actual room could play such a believable villain? Definitely one of the better King adaptions.

I could have sworn I reviewed this before...

But what the hell.

1408 is a great movie for experienced Bluelighters. The movie is a K-hole from hell. It starts out slowly, giving you a firm grasp over the main character. One things get going, however, they don't stop.

A lot is left open to interpretation. The basic timeline of the movie, the motivations of some characters, the fate of other characters, the ending.

Okay... the entire movie is one giant headfuck that doesn't give any concrete answers or resolutions. Once the story actually gets rolling, you can take it in any number of directions.

All in all, I really enjoyed this movie. I can't wait for the DVD release. Hopefully it will include some good commentaries and the original ending (which didn't test well with audiences).

All in all, this isn't so much a "catch it on the big screen" flick as it is a "rent it and watch it while under the influence... and again while sober... and again just for the hell of it" flick.

Four solid stars.

the first half-hour was great. Sam Jackson's scenes are fantastic. once the bad trip begins, though, there isn't enough plot to hold the story together. there should have been more to link the plot with the terror. 2/5

I have to see this--especially since I've had the rare pleasure of reading the story (which I really enjoyed) beforehand. IMO, that's the best way to watch any movie based on a literary work, but that's another topic altogether.

from another thread (about 1408):

i was mostly enjoying that right up to the last 15 minutes. they had a chance to really nail a terrifying ending but i think they totally copped out...

Loved it, I dig most john cusack movies too. The part where hes talking to his wife over the pc, then the wife gets tricked by the "spirit" of the room into going to the hotel to the room instead of calling 911 was great, freaky. The part where the room makes a ghost that looks exactly like his daughter is really twisted too. The part where you think hes out of the room was a mind trip..

One of the more enjoyable movies I've seen lately..

5 stars

oh yeah samuel jacksons character was great too, he played it like no one else could

That movie broke me open and gave me the ability to appreciate open plots.

IS he still in the ROOM?

Which is another interesting idea... What if after our first psychedelic experience, we all went absolutely crazy and we're all shitting on puppies somewhere?

It could happen.

Then again, whenever you trace it all back to the fact that we were born and all we really have to go on is our few years of memory... It is what it is.

Easily one of the best adaptations from something Stephen King wrote. Of course, that's not saying much at all, considering most movies based off his works suck. 1408 was rad, though. I love John Cusack in this movie.

I watched this movie by myself, in the dark and in my creaky flat which used to be a hotel.
That said the film combined perfectly with the conditions to give me some real old school chills. The kind of feelings we used to relish before films turned to guns and gore.

Brilliant adaption and the lead fitted the role perfectly.

This movie was really good.
I hate the last 10 minutes, but besides that I thought it was perfect.

The whole head trip thing was REALLY freaking me out.
I shouldn't have seen this movie after smoking heavily.
