Deja Vu

Personally I think it's Denzel Washington & Tony Scott doing what they do best. A kind of thriller/drama/action/SciFi/Terrorist style of movie. Explosions, mad scary technology & the odd car chase.

Done in the typical style of Hollywood, disengage the brain (not too much though - there is still a storyline!!), sit back & enjoy.

Anyone else seen it? What d'ya think?

I thought it was a great movie, with a great premise... until he climbed into the box. Then it just went to shit.

I was going to rent this a couple of nights ago, but instead chose "Rocky Balboa"...

...the shame!

Will get back with some useful comments later. ;)

LOL - hence the "disengage" comment :D

i swear there was another thread re this film. But now it aint coming up on search.

fuck this piece of shit movie.

we laughed at the ridiculous plot at least. and the film had absolutely nothing to do with dejavu.

1/5

its basically a movie legnth mix of CSI and 24, with a blockbuster budget. You can rest assured, its entire purpose is to give you something better to do than nothing for 2 hours, and it certainly succeeds. I do like the idea of the technology emplyed, but i've been watching primer every few feeks for the last few months, and this movie therefore gets 2 1/2 spuds (outta 5 :))

having said that, its alot more enjoyable than many movies i'd rate higher... in fact it only really lacks the ability to make you think, which can be a really good thing if you are in the right mood.

it made me think

think about the fuckin stop button and how far i can throw the disc from my 6th floor window.

it went well for the first 45 minutes. i didn't care about his relationship with the girl or the brainy-scientist-turned-helper to care much about the rest. it was still entertaining.

also, i think this is yet another movie that inappropriately explains time travel, like Back to the Future

hey... back to the future rocked!! take that back!! =D

and watch primer XD

I absolutely hated this movie.

Quick someone grab my google goggles so I can reclaim that wasted time!

Yyyyyeeeah... what the hell was that about???

I know in Hollywoodland characters can have full-blown relationships in 2 hours... but he was declaring his love for a woman despite spending more time with her dead body in a morgue than the 30 minutes he'd spent with her alive. Their relationship seemed a little disjointed, forced, inappropriate and kinda upset the rest of the fluffy no-brainer story.

Denzel did his relaxed-but-furious alpha-male thing adequately well, randomly smashing a few TV screens and windows for a satisfyingly penis-magnifying effect. You know how he likes that. Val Kilmer was... well, reasonably watchable actually. 30 pounds, 10 years and a bit of stubble has made him a more interesting set of teeth to watch.

Bruckheimer's influence is there, but it's not as unbearably overpowering as it has been in previous ventures. The usual checklist is present: American servicemen? Check! Patriot vehicles? Check! Slow-motion running/falling? Check! Overly-dramatic, full-orchestral music over said slow-mo's? Check... but almost subdued in comparison to the usual Bruckheimer fare.

I was amused by the film's ethical debate on the risks of timetravel: "I wanna catch someone before they do something bad" :D

Fun distraction for 2 hours.

For an action movie, it was entertaining. I think you set the bar a wee bit too high asking action movies to have any logical plot or basis in reality. Some of it was ridiculous, but thats part of what made it so fun. The hopping in the humvee part to 'chase him down in the past' ? LOL. As I said, you can't expect too much. It kept me entertained and pulled a 2.5/5 stars in my book.
