I don't generally post in here so im HOPING it's the right area...i did a search before starting this thread but only came up with a thread which is archived...

My conundrum is this...someone i work with has recently quit smoking pot...and he's driving me crazy with his mood swings and detox with drawals...

I just wanted some help in how I can make things better for him. We totally support him quitting after years of smoking it but I was wondering if anyone could suggest some good reading material i could d/l on withdrawal's and side affects of quitting and also maybe some motivational material to help him REALLY kick the habit.

Also could you tell me what to do in order to be able to cope with his moods and maybe suggest idea's for things for him to do to keep him saine?

He's all over the shop at work mentally and keeps forgetting things...simple things...and i told him I could probly find him some material to help him quit but can't seem to locate decent reading material.

If this isn't the right area could someone move it to where it needs to go?

Ta Muchly

"You in here for some marijuana?!?!"

"Maaaaaaaaan this is some BULLSHIT!"

"Boo this man!"

"Booooooooooooo!"

"I used to suck dick for coke!"

"You ever suck dick for some marijuana?!?!"

"I didn't think so..."

Sorry I had to do it.

As far as quiting herb, in my experience, it is impossible.

Pure will power is my advice, but I could never pull it off, I love it too much.

I am miserable when I don't smoke herb.

Even when I was on probation for a year, way back when, even months and months and months after I stopped smoking, I was still miserable.

It isn't so much withdrawals, it is just that he is miserable that he can't get high.

Like they say, addict once, addict for life.

If you know your doctor kind of well he will probably give you one repeat of valium to help with DT and WD. Some won't though if you mention rec drugs.

Does he spin his weed with tobacco? If so he's quitting two addictive drugs at once! Remember that.

Does he have any leave time or sick pay and any money? If so I recommend for him to go a holiday, one week min. Somewhere with something to do but also relax, AND DON'T TAKE WEED. Make sure it is somewhere where you can't get on and have no sources at all. Take a friend who can stand his shit for a week. Just have shit to do in general.

Quitting pot isn't that hard, it's just the first few days, and the tobacco. After I quit weed, I started smoking ciggies for about 8 months or more. Then one day I just stopped buying the shit. I only smoke ciggies on meth now. No cravings.

I generally don't enjoy pot anymore. It's a pretty boring experience, it makes you dumb. It makes me feel groggy and slow for the whole next day now and sleep for way too long. It brings back this same head sapce I had for 5 years or so, which is just shit. Brings back delusional thinking, and just childish things. Although if I do have it its on a pill comedown only... and once in a blue moon after alcohol.

He won't have an appetitie for a few days but try to eat healthy anyway, and do some walking. Walking helps a lot.

After he quits he'll wonder why he didn't earlier.

stay as busy as possible. read books, watch movies. plan a full day. the worst thing you could do is have heaps of spare time. when i kept relapsing i realised i had way to much spare time on my hands. it will also keep his mind off getting high. i haven't being clean for that long. i smoked daily for 8 years and i haven't felt better since i quit. the first week is definately the hardest.

If he quits for about 3 or 4 weeks and then decides to get high, he'll probably not enjoy it as much. He'll be really high, possibly even getting visuals and deluded thoughts like a low dose of mushrooms would do, and some terrible body load. Then go back to it a fair few more times, say once every month until he realises weed is over! It's in the past... going onto better things like IV heroin (haha kidding)

I found a book called Higher and Higher - From drugs and destruction to health and happiness by Jost Sauer. This book completely changed my life.

Jost Sauer is an ex addict who has been through it all. In the above mentioned book he explains drugs and addictions from the perspective of traditional chinese medicine (TCM) combined with western medicine and offers ways to not only become drug free but recapture that excitement that comes with (or used to come with) drug use, without any drugs.

Check out his website www.jostsauer.com. He's based in Brisbane and is a therapist specialising in drug repair.

Hopes this helps :)

I just had a tiny tiny joint after not smoking for 48 hours. For me it's a big thing I guess. This is after almost everyday bong use for over three or four years. I broke my bong and threw it out. Took a few Mersyndol with a few drinks to get to sleep, worked a treat. I don't plan to smoke again till the weekend now...and after that probably not until the next weekend. I don't want to stop completely, just use in extreme moderation. I.e weekends, comedowns (I don't take MDMA anymore so this just applies to meth, psychedelics etc) and social occaisons. As much as I like cones I am not going to get a new bong...too tempting.

I reccomend things that occupy your time and mind. Go for walks while listening to music, read a book, watch a movie, make a meal.

Cheers hoptis :)

Phase Dancer: thanks :) will re-read them after i have had some sleep.

Quitting weed isn't that hard really, as long as you want to quit. It's just that next day really, ands the day after that. Then it is upto you if you want to get high or not. Don't let the sober state scare you... it can be quite interesting and rewarding.

The sober state doesn't scare him at all. Its the dependancy on it that he is finding hard to kick. The smoking being the way he escpaed the world...

Well he can't be a pussy forever... the world is fucked, it's not changing. Deal with it :) As I said it's not that hard to kick. It is a dependancy yeah but its nothing like harder drugs. There isn't really even a strong urge to have it after you kick it, like say meth.

Deal with it As I said it's not that hard to kick.

I dispute that. As someone who smoked regularly for almost 30 years, I found it to be very hard to kick. The withdrawals, which were many and varied, lasted for several months.

Spare time is the enemy. I think keepin yourself busy is the best thing as it takes your mind off thinking about having a smoke.

I've been trying off and on for the last year to quit. A gram a day habit is extremely hard to kick even after 4 years. The not being able to sleep is one of the hardest things for me. I've just had a relapse after a month long break, and one of the best things about that time was having dreams again, its like being on drugs while you sleep, brilliant!

The cutting back to weekends only is a good idea too, but you have to maintain a strong mindset, as it is all too easy to get back into the swing of things, and start smoking throughout the week again...

Ahh well, that's a bit different my friend. I only smoked daily for 5 years. :)

But I am interested, were these withdrawals physical? I got physical gut pains, and couldn't eat properly for about a week so I forced myself to, and my digestive system seemed pretty dependant on cannabis to have solid shits (hmm, actually that part never fixed itself..), and lost all sex drive for weeks. And also got a few weird painful headaches that didn't last that long... but I was expecting a lot more, as I smoked a bong or three before doing ANYTHING in my life, and I mean anything, even going to check the letterbox.

Very important point, i found after 3 years of everyday use it was in fact the nicotine that i was addicted too, not the weed. Whenever i was killing for a joint, i tried a cigarette and it would completely dismiss the cravings. The psychological addiction of "wanting to get high" may still be there but thats easier than the physical addiction of nicotine.

I find the exact opposite is true.

When I go a long time without herb, then smoke, it is like when I first started, all giggly and giddy, very enjoyable.

It is when I smoke all day every day, that it starts to be more of a blah type high.
