August 12, 2006 09:40am
TWENTY-FIVE people have been arrested after police with sniffer dogs targeted nightclubs and rave parties in Townsville.
Dogs from the Brisbane Dog Squad were brought in as part of the Echo Toil operation which targeted nightclubbers at The Bank night club, in the Flinders Street East night club district.
Passengers departing the Breakwater Ferry Terminal to attend a full moon rave party on Magnetic Island also were targeted, police said.
The two-day police operation was a search for MDMA (ecstasy), amphetamines and cannabis. It took place between 8pm (AEST) Thursday to 2am (AEST) today.
The dogs indicated 60 people as possibly having drugs on their person.
Of those, 22 were found to be in possession of a dangerous drug.
Other charges laid during the period include two charges of possessing utensils to use a dangerous drug, two charges of obstructing police and one charge of failing to dispose of a syringe.
