Yeh its cheesy and commercial but it rocks. I come from a goa/psy background but find myself more and more drawn to the sheer euphoria of Happy Hardcore.

Now: comments, negative or otherwise and why?

personally, i hate it;

it sounds childish and mind-numbingly boring, idiotic lyrics; makes me want to throw up;

I don't really like it, mainly because of the vocal tracks and some of the melodies. I really do like freeform though, and 'trancecore' if you want to seperate them that much. I find it's like happy hard without the overkill of crappy vocals but still maintaining the high energy and upliftingness. A lot of freeform can also be much darker and driving which is equally good, check out some of the stuff the fins are doing

(also check out nomic and carbon based if you can)

I like the darker finnish freeform more then the uk stuff, for that though; check here:

I love it, although it's a fairly new thing to me so who knows if it'll last!

I *know* it's terrible, but it's like a drug, put that stuff on for a few minutes and you start feeling like you're on something, and it just brings you up so well on pills/coke/speed..

I came from metal/rock/goth, then moved across to EBM when i started doing more drugs. EBM's probably still my favourite thing, bleepy but with more soul & intellect, but i do love my happy hardcore too :)

what is EBM?

I thought it was EDM...

I also really dig the Finnish freeform sound right now. its sort of like psytrance @ 170 bpm. Alek Szahala is teh man.

EBM = Electronic Body Music. I won't claim to be an expert, but a few bands i love who fit into that or similar categories are Neurotic Fish, Colony 5, Assemblage 23 & Icon of Coil :)

Will have to do some downloading of that, fast psytrance definately sounds interesting!

From my experience, this kind of music, including hard house, seem to be more like an entry point to most other forms of electronic music.

I don't think there's many people who didn't have a soft spot for it at some time :)

There's not much of it that I like. But I love to hear a nice happy hardcore track mixed with some funky breaks.

i find the only hardcore i can get into is sex

Sounds like an interesting sub genre, I'll have to look into it

^^^ I tend to agree with all the above but its got the most energy of any dance music I hear. I think people bag it because of its cheesiness and cos it aint cool, but pump it on a big stereo and most people will smile.

Its just happy, I don't really like dark music anymore (used to LOVE noreweigan Black Metal and the like- ah, those years of wearing a cape and 8-ups) and am kind of tired of the evil sounds of psy at the moment.

Give me love. Thats all I ask.

Must add- Ray Charles rocks. Irellevant info, but true.

I'll never forget my roots.
First electronic song I fell in love with was the happy hardcore version of "Somewhere over the rainbow."

I like all types of Hardcore, including UK Hardcore (we dont call it the newer types of happycore songs that are more flowing and less cheesy "Happycore" in the Southern California scene anymore).

How does that sound nowadays? I only remember hearing that stuff when I was just a kid, back in the nineties.. Someone give me a up-to-date cliché song, if you know what I mean ;)

Anyway, check out my thread "conformity in dance styles" it's got some Dutch hardcore in it, and Jumpstyle too..
