There are movies worth seeing at the theater and renting on video. Maybe 1 out of 10 movies that come out are actually worth owning(movies you could watch again and again). These are a few of mine that come to mind.
Donnie Darko
Rules of Attraction
Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle
The Shawhank Redemption
Super Troopers
Fight Club
Shaun of the Dead
The Matrix
Pulp Fiction
Half Baked
American Psycho
Final Destination 1 & 2(guilty pleasures)
Boondock Saints
Frailty

Anyone else have their own list?

For me, there is a difference between movies worth buying and favorite movies. My two favorite movies, Lawrence of Arabia and Brazil, I only watch every once in a while. Lawrence of Arabia I will only watch on the big screen. But then there are films that have good replay value, and these are definitely worth owning. To me, a film with good replay value usually means that I can find something new in the movie on each viewing. Directors who are obsessed with details, like Gilliam and Scorsese, are good examples of this.
